Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Given the discount (20%) GWS get on Green, and the fact they can (trade out & back) and pay for Green with later pick points and use their trade back picks to pick another gem or two from this draft, for them to forgo the discount and pick trading stuff to let Green go to us and take Jackson would require they rate Jackson as not just better than Green, but better than Green plus players they get trading pick 4 out and then back...

>That sentence is wy too long, but it's Friday and i'm weary<

Mummy is either cooked or very close to it.  GWS will need a decent replacement and blooding Jackson in 2020 in prep for a handover in 2021 makes sense.

Weightman is a Spargo like player.  Not the 200+ gamer that is the top 10 aim.

I would rate 20 youngsters well before Weightman.

JT would be a lunatic to pick him at 3.

I just lost interest.

Yeah, I wouldn't put a whole lot of credence in what norm is saying.  Totally different types of players.

The only aspect I agree with is that he's not a Top 3 pick.  Someone to look at with our second pick?  Possibly.  It's relatively clear that we want to draft a small forward, and you would expect us to do it with either pick 10 or 28, or we trade 10 for two picks in the middle of the first and do something there.

Small jest there Wiseblood. I know 90% of nothing about potential draftees or the system used to select them nowadays.

I just wait and see who we pick.

I burst out laughing at the Spargo comparison from Norm. Honestly you couldn't find two completely different players in Spargo and Weightman. Spargo is your forward/midfield who is more of a link up accumulator type who will eventually push into the midfield.

Weightman is more of your jack in the box type forward. The Jamie Elliot comparisons are real. Weightman actually likes to fly for his marks and has that genuine x factor that can turn a game within minutes.

So yes @old dee if you want Weightman then you will love when you start watching him play. Talented kid indeed.

No. Because he is a completely different player to Weightman.

When I spent time with Spargo at the bushies, he played his best footballer as a midfielder. He was voted best player in the under 16s championships when he was playing as a full time mid then resting up forward.

I actually don't think he is good enough for senior level dd. Just does not have any serious weapons that I can see.

My reference to Weightman being a “Spargo-like player”’was in regards to being “boys”.  They play well as boys but translating that to the AFL against men can be difficult.  Dylan Smith was the classic “boy” who was drafted by the Kangas at 4 or 5 yet struggled.  He was a gun under 18s midfielder who never got going against men in the AFL. The comparison was not for where they play. I see Spargo as better in  a creative midfield role like where he played in his underage years but he may struggle against men.  I know Weightman is a different style as he is a lively forward pocket with goal sense.

There is youngsters that just look like they can step up as men. Oliver.  Cunnington. Cripps. They have the hard edge and bodies to step up.

Perhsps I’m still scarred by Addam Maric , another “highly rated lively forward pocket“. But that was in the dark BP years and we do put more faith in JT.

I am keen for our youngsters picked to be drivers of future success. IMO I don’t see Weightman being ahead of other youngsters for top 3 as it was or now for the pick 10. It’s my opinion.  Happy to be see where the cards fall.

If we’re dead set on drafting a small forward on a needs basis instead of the best player available at pick 10, then Weightman is the one to draft.

Highest goal scorer at the champs. Great crumber. Great leap. Good leading player. Good skills. Good forward pressure. He’s the best small forward on offer in this draft.

Just watched him on AFL.com.au and he spoke terrifically well and looks like  he has that bubbly nature and would be annoying and in your face and be up all the time. Type of kid that if you didnt have him on your side you would not like him at all once he starts playing!!

As you're aware, not all small forwards are the same.  Pickett and Weightman look to be very different types.  Pickett and Liam Henry are of a similar genre (Henry more advanced) and are a different type of ''small'' to Weightman.

Imo, we need a Pickett or Henry type more than a Weightman.

I like their flair, speed, agility, aggression, knock ons, etc.  I'm not saying Weightman doesn't have similar traits, but from what I've seen not to the same degree.  I don't see quite that buzzing excitement machine in Weightman when compared to the other two, who just seem more of what we lack and need.

The kid looks great. I'm sure he will be compared to Koz for the next 10 or so years but far too early to tell who was the right selection

Well, we could have had both! Let’s hope Luke Jackson is also talked about for the next ten years. In a good way, of course.

It was a very nice debut. But let’s face it. It’s far easier to kick goals in the dogs forward line. From memory reports were dogs and port would have taken Kozzy if we didn’t and had him ranked over Weightman. Personally I think Kozzy has more upside with his pace and manic pressure as well as a more physical presence. may end up more a Jamie Elliot type which will be a very good pick. Fingers cross Kozzy becomes Cyril Rioli!

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
