Future Brownlow medallist! (Now if only he could become a good player as well).

Ooh Burn!!!!

He deserved his Brownlow in the fact he had a number of sensatation games as opposed to being the best player week in week out. That is my memory of his year.

Dead right! It was some performance - for the whole year. A purple patch like no other.

Agree Corcoran was the architect behind the salary cap disgrace as well.  Massive ego.  Should have stayed at the bummers

This is so far off beam. Before his time.

Fair enough. Corcoran was there in 1997-2004.  Salary cap rorts were 1995 to 1998. Only the accomplice.

this is from two years ago:

Jeff White's son Kalani, 11, is another the club is keeping an eye on while he plays his footy for Surfers Paradise in Queensland. White also has twin sons named Kai and Tahj, still only seven years old. Adem Yze's son Noah, 12, Aaron Davey's son Marley, 8, David Schwartz' son Cooper, 14 and Shane Woewodin's son Taj, 15, are others on the Demons' radar, although admittedly they are all very young. Defender Nathan Brown also has three sons – Kynan, 13, Jake, 11, a talented soccer player, and Ryder, 9.

Hopefully a few of those end up AFL standard and playing with the Dees.

Doesn't Jeff White also have a Taj coming through?

I wonder how many we can collect?  (If any)

Isn't Jeff's boy called Kalani?

Yes saw that after I posted, but would be nice to see/hear of Yze, White, Woey, Davey and Browndog running around in the Red and blue again

Correct. He was really good week-in week-out. I am a hopeless punter, but backed him at the TAB sometime in late July at 30 to 1 to win. And yes, I have been bragging about it ever since.

Woey was the classic one hit musical sensation. A great year but alas not repeated. And of course in typicalMelbourne fashion his contract was up for renewal in the year after his one hit wonder.

Still think he was stiff. He had a pretty good 2002 from memory. Though his 2001 was something to forget.

His version is he didn't get a chance to take a cut.
Club said he needed to take a cut, he and his manger were discussing it, manager was putting a proposal together whilst Woey was on the end of season trip, then the club traded him to Collingwood before they had the chance to negotiate.

Daniher says at the end of the vid that the salary cap was so tight, that someone simply had to go and that cutting Woewodin allowed them to keep: Yze, Johnstone and offer contracts to Robertson, Powell, James McDonald and Chris Lamb.

Which would have made sense if we didn't also lose Powell. No wonder 2003 was so poor, losing two of our prime-movers in the midfield in one season.

I know this is focused on the father/son side of things but any daughters who carry famous names who might pull on the red and blue?

doesn't qualify for pies as father-son so it's either dees or pot-luck in the draft in a few years time

they had salary cap issues and had to decide between I think him, yze, and some other talent ... given how he finished off at the pies they probably chose the right option ... although should have managed things better to avoid having to force someone out in the first place

Didn't the club set up a father daughter academy last year.

Interesting point you raised Pates.

So interesting I'm off for my pre-sleep nap.

Thanks for your extremely valuable contribution, I’m not surprised you need a nap after really straining yourself on it.

Exhausting.

Sometimes the only way I can energise myself is to ponder the vagaries of the AFLW draft system and all the possible recruits.

Is that the source of OMac in our current team?

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • POSTGAME: Geelong

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
