spirit of norm smith 16,679 Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Dan Butler is more likely as he has been surpassed by Bolton now. He has good aggression, tackling and goal sense. Worth a late 4th rounder trade pick around 60+. Not sure about Sam Gray but probably about same price. Zac Langdon could be a good option. Worth a conversation. From the draft, I’d go with Elijah Taylor. Could be there at pick 20-21 for us. He would add some excitement and pace around goals which is badly needed. It’s a NO on Cody Weightman . We already have Spargo as a young miniature schoolboy type. Quote

The ones we have are not dynamic, Bedford is a mile off it, Chandler is a work in progress but needs to have year of VFL where his goal kicking just kicks the door down. No argument Jeffy was a genuine goal crumbing effective forward in his prime D3. I highlighted the small forward part though as at 180cm i saw him more as a medium small rather than a genuine small like the wiz / Ricky Jackson etc. 1 Quote

Lets hope they prioritize it. 1 Quote

Yes pls DT. As many indigenous as possible on the outside and as small or medium small forwards. Tend to have an innate ability, a sixth sense if you will, knowing where the goals / team mates are and finish is often sublime. X factor, often great overhead and a joy to watch even if you aren't winning a match. 1 Quote

We are bereft of speed, class and X Factor and have way too many NQR ploddy depth players dragging us down every season as soon as a few injuries (or more) strike. Quote

MikeAlphaTango 150 Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 Carlton have delisted Jarrod Garlett, Kym Lebois and Jarrod Pickett. None of which have set the world on fire but could be worth a rookie list spot. Quote

Didn’t show anything for the Blues or at prior opportunities Garlett (at Suns) and Pickett (at GWS). Quote
Dee Zephyr 19,311 Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 Anyone know the contract status of Dan Butler? A few on here seem keen to get him over to us. He kicked 4 second half goals today for Richmond in their VFL Qualifing final against Essendon. Best part about that was Essendon giving up a 40pt 3 quarter time lead and losing by 2 points. 1 Quote

olisik 4,060 Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 (edited) We better be all over this kid, looking to be early 20s pick. Would be [censored] if we pass on him for another Vanilla mid like Sparrow/Spargo/Jordan ect WWT Eagles/South Australia | Small Forward 02/06/2001 | 170cm | 68kg Arguably the most naturally gifted player in the draft, the nephew of Port Adelaide and North Melbourne premiership player Byron, is small in stature but big on X-factor and his ability to do the impossible. He is clean at ground level, has high-level goal sense, and despite being so lightly built, was able to force his way into the Woodville-West Torrens League side courtesy of a massive six-goal game against North Adelaide in the first round of the SANFL Reserves competition. Adds an extra dimension to the South Australian forward line and will be one that could light up the big stage over the next month. Edited August 31, 2019 by olisik 5 Quote

I think he would be gettable... but for what price? He is an upgrade on what we have and he has excellent goal sense. Isn't getting a huge crack at it, as evidenced by him playing VFL, but I'd be interested to see what the Tigers value him at AND if they would be willing to trade him. 1 Quote

He'll go for a 3rd round or below probably, can't get a game at AFL level. If Hibberd and Melksham were 2nd rounders that values him at 3rd or 4th I'd say. Particularly if it isn't Dodoro doing the valuing Quote

I have a very good theory on why indigenous players have freakish kicking ability, that I can back with scientific research. I’m waiting for Yze to come back before I approach the club with it. He was kickicking coach at the greatest kicking team ever. Yze come back. Quote

That’s the thing Wise, we wouldn’t know if Richmond are willing to let him go. They have fierce competition for the small forward position and it’s working for them at the moment. Sounds like he definitely put his hand up today to get back in and feature in finals. A few Richmond fans at work rate him highly and don’t want to lose him. In terms of his value, I wouldn’t have a clue to be honest, others are much better judges than me on here. Quote

Kicked 4 goals today in the VFL including 3 in a huge last quarter. We should go hard after him. Their salary cap is very tight and we wouldn’t have to offer a lot to easily exceed what Richmond could offer (plus that he would be almost guaranteed best 22 for us). Quote

Boots and all 1,000 Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 There is a recent article on the AFL website discussing small forward trade options. One bloke from the Lions, Lewis Taylor is 24 yo and OOC, see blurb below. Any thoughts on him as a player? "They used him more through the wing for the last couple of years, and away more from the half-forward role, which he's really lost, with (Charlie) Cameron coming in, (Dayne) Zorko playing that mix of half-forward and mid, and (Allen) Christensen. His best footy was really good in the contest, being a pressure player and dangerous around goals, getting busy in transition, getting multiple possessions in a chain, getting up the ground pretty high, then being a bit more creative on the way through. He would offer value for money." Quote
Sorry kids 635 Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 One of my all time favorite Demons players. An enormous talent, cruelled by injury. exactly what we need now. David Williams (born 26 October 1961) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A forward from Rochester, Williams kicked nine goals against North Melbourne late in the 1986 VFL season at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He however had his most successful season in 1987 when he kicked 39 goals and he bagged 33 more the following year. The second of those tallies included two of Melbourne's six goals in the 1988 VFL Grand Final, which he played as a half forward flanker. It was his last game for the club and he was traded to Richmond, but a knee injury ended his career. Quote
TeamPlayedFine39 8,525 Posted September 1, 2019 Posted September 1, 2019 Below are all the specialist small forwards selected in the All Australian Team for the last 10 years (excluding resting mid-fielders). It would seem that predicting a champion small forward would be the hardest of any specialist position on the ground. Charlie Cameron (Rookie Draft) Michael Walters (53) Luke Breust (Rookie Draft) Robbie Gray (55) Eddie Betts (Pre-Season) Toby Greene (11) Cyril Rioli (12) Hayden Ballantyne (21) Chad Wingard (6) Stephen Milne (Rookie) Mark LeCras (37) Paul Chapman (31) Steve Johnson (24) 1 1 Quote
