I was told that at a recent business lunch, at an exclusive Australian ‘businessmen’s club’ the CEO was present and told an audience that we are expecting a significant financial loss at the end of the season. I’ve posted this on previous threads and no one seemed to believe it. I think we are back up [censored] creek

not unusual in business for a first year CEO to do some significant write down of assets so as to start from a lower base.

Business 101

The drop in revenue from those last three MCG games would also be significant as we have discussed

Thanks for clarifying that.

If it’s financial, then that’s woeful!  Didn’t they sell off the gaming? They should be flush with money.  Jackson must be chocking on his cornflakes.

membership will take a hit until members see tangible change at the start of 2020.  Cannot keep forking out dollars when the players on this list are mediocre with their comfort zone.

If he was choking on his cornflakes at 3.12pm, then it was definitely time for him to pull the pin.

Having thought about this a bit more, doesn't every club receive funding from the AFL?

Yes maybe except for a couple.

We sell games to NT and still need to be propped up by the AFL.

Rabble

Every club besides maybe Hawks, WC and Pies are propped up by the AFL

Jesus they hate GWS!! Fair enough I’d penalise any team who has T Greene in it.

Seems like a lot of positive energy and detailed discussion from you as usual DD, kudos.

The broadcast rights money ($2.518 Billion) is the biggie.  But one could argue that the clubs generate that income whilst the AFL manages the money.

Save for the 2 new clubs and maybe Brisbane,  all the other clubs should be able to post profits given the money that is generated.  Huge membership numbers,  tens of millions from pokies,  Tassie,  NT et al,  lots of sponsorship money etc etc.

Money wise,  the sport has never been in better shape.  Even our club was able to pay top dollar for a coach (Roos) ... and it was our generated money that paid Roos' salary too.  Posted profits in all of Paul's 3 years at the club as well.

That would probably do it C13.  I also think the umps have had it in for us even more than usual since this happened...

bentleigh Club will collapse soon after the pokies come out. Wonder if that is our plan. To then sell off the land for residential housing. Not sure we could be that clever though.

I suspect Heritage Overlay would prevent its development as real estate.

Finally someone who has a clue.

Good work as usual joeboy.

Given the nudge-nudge wink-wink tone of the responses to home base questions fielded by both Bartlett & Pert in recent weeks this thought crossed my mind too.

Likely correct JJ.  Which makes the situation even worse. However I did see where or hear that when listed as an asset it is at land value. Such an odd investment when only a token effort has been given to making it a place of welcome for supporters. Some times when I have been there you need to ask to have the Dees game on one of the TVs.

The Amazon is burning, the Arctic is melting, bees are dying, many will be without power over the summer, our cricketers have collapsed and we are going cap in hand to the Commission. Life just doesn’t get any better!

No one seemed to believe it, or they wrote it off as bleeding bloody obvious?

Considering our performance on field this season, the consequent lower attendances, etc. you’d have to be shocked if it wasn’t the case.

I can’t believe the lack of awareness and reporting on the situation in the Amazon. A Kardashian thing falls over and it’s all over the news. The world is royally screwed.

Not to mention the Western world is being lead by the likes of Trump and Boris Johnston. Very depressing.

Forget logic OD.  Based on examples from some recent posts (some examples above), i reckon this thread has now had it's own JTS moment (see below) and is now in it's final throes...

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
