He is so important down back because he allows Lever to take intercept marks and May to, well, being his ridiculously good self. He is the decoy. A thankless job but a very important one.
Had a sensational game last night and that deliberate call against him was a joke.

Really impressive performance.  I was critical of his form over the summer as I felt he was soft one on one. But his role right now is really the main reason why May and Lever are able to play the style of game they're producing.

Drop.

He’s been a solid defender so far this year which is a big improvement.

He was a very solid defender for several games at the end of last season. Couldn’t understand the negativity towards him over the Summer.

Timely post .  A decoy that had 11 marks and 100% TOG.. Was he wearing a saints jumper, or just also a good reader of the play?

I said it 1000 times. Tomlinson is not a wingman.  Despite Mahoney and Goodwin comments.

He fits in as a CHB. Good mark.  Reads the play.  Has endurance to cover the ground. Skilled.  Best game for MFC so far.  Definitely in the votes v Saints last night.

Adam won me as a fan on a hot day last December as I ran around the Tan. I was going at a reasonable pace (4:45 per km) when two big blokes went thundering past me. It was Adam and Brayden Preuss doing 1 kilometre repetitions together (i.e. 1 km hard, rest, turn around, run 1 km hard back, rest, turn etc). They are both massive units and seeing them going at somewhere around 3:00-3:30 per km pace was truly intimidating, but very impressive at the same time. I caught up with them as they rested at the end of a rep and of course greeted Adam with the required "Go Dees". I loved seeing one of our men working so hard on his pre-season fitness.

Few people quoting this Tweet, suggesting it links into Petty being packaged for McAdam. I can't see it happening unless Petty specifically asks to be traded to the Crows.

Keep Tomlinson and play him.
He is at solid lock down key defender who frees up Lever.

This, to me, has been a no-brained since Round 1 2021.

jesus wept, if we keep tomlinson and lose petty i'll be ropeable - i expect it's more about having someone with some senior experience available as vfl depth if one of may or lever are missing any football in 2024

directly responsible for at least 3, mebbe 4 goals in a game we lost by 2 points

may spent more time having to tell him off about his positioning in the d50 than he did maintaining the zone

On what planet would we trade Petty for McAdam? One is out of contract and 28 years old. One is contracted for TWO MORE YEARS and is a 23 year old key position star.

I suggest Tomlinson staying is more to do with Petty playing forward permanently and us needing another experienced big bodied defender. We would get absolute peanuts for Tomlinson which is a crying shame. He has a role to play.

Crom supporters on Twitter are convinced it means more than it does.

It wasn’t the defending that lost our last two games.   It was inability to put the ball through the goals often enough,

most finals you do need to kick more than 73 points to win.

Crom supporters are high on crack if they think they’re getting Petty for McAdams. Deluluville!

Edit: IF Petty has asked for a trade to the Crows, and why would he?, given he’s a star and under contract we would demand a LOT more than McAdams in return.

It’s almost like the Adelaide football media invent stories each year to keep their football public interested.

Kozzie to Port anyone? 🥱

Hear ricuito (spelling so prob wrong) talking about Petty for McAdam… [censored], they would have to throw in their first round draft pick and their best player.

I'm not Tommo's biggest fan. Reckon his form has been patchy this season. Pushed TDK in the back for carltons 2nd goal. Lost him for the first goal. Trailed behind his man most of the night. Slow and immobile. I understand we need the 3rd tall to free up Lever but can disco play this role instead?

If that’s a push in the back I give up on football.

Correct. Oscar-winning performance by TDK.

It would be equally a depth decision as well.

Next year we can't rely on any of BBB and T-mac and wouldn't expect any games from Adams, Jefferson, Verall and KFW.

At the moment that leaves May, Lever, Petty, JvR as our best 22 KPP with hope that Turner will establish himself. Injury to any one of those seriously jeopardises our structure.

Keeping Schache and Tomlinson in that context is actually a no brainer unless we bring in some ready made key position depth.

Haha exactly. I cannot see it happen at all. Would also be a massive risk for Crows with the injury Petty currently has.

I doubt clubs would be willing to take on Tommo's contract which is over $500k.  And if someone wants us to pay well we may as well hold him for the last year of his contract as he is great backup.  I know this sounds tough but it's a business sometimes unfortunately.

It's like how we got Oscar Allen for Jayden Hunt last year ...

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
