I have never watched this bloke with any interest. Where would he play?

Greater Western Sydney utility Adam Tomlinson is set to return home to Victoria, with the Demons poised to attain his services for 2020 and beyond.

He may be right, but without the hindsight of knowing all the offseason moves it's pure speculation.

Tomlinson is an outside runner so I've got no idea what Roos is on about.

Strange isn't it. Very strange. Worries me that he is not a gre a t kick but we desperately need runners and he seems to offer that. As does Langdon.

Durable too. Hardly missed a g a me. Of course now that he is likely coming to us he'll cop an injury.

Roos is an extremely egotistical and stubborn person. He would've looked at Tomlinson's height and weight and made his judgement through that alone.

Did someone who's initials are Paul Roos mention "outside run"?

That's him commentating

Nice ruuuun and Goaaal! ??

I wanted him at the Dees when the Saints were chasing him some years ago.

Ya don't mess with dl goody. Nice get Moonie. Graphics and all.

Typical from the footy media. Really most are just dead lazy and I'm amazed given they are paid to be experts at their collective lack of knowledge.

The only ex footballers I rate from a knowledge and analysis point of view is Mick  mcguane and Terry Wallace.

I can't speak for Roosy, just repeating what he said.

Open in incognito mode.

Basically... Heading to Demons. 4 year deal. Will play as wing.

He’s fit and can run all day, but I don’t think he is quick. I also think he is a reasonably neat kick. Certainly not a weakness from what I’ve seen.

My concern is that he currently plays up the ground and just doesn’t impact games enough. Doesn’t get a lot of it or kick goals, and doesn’t really use his size to physically impact the game.

he's tall, strong, durable, and versatile

in previous years teams have been willing to give up mid-first round picks for him

we're getting him for free, right when he should be about to play the best football of his career

it's a winner

so he was offered a new deal and now it has been reduced ?

The initial deal that was offered to Tomlinson early in 2019 has since been altered and the Giants are resigned to losing him.

Trusty Tom Browne seems to think we are the favourite. Interesting to hear Roosy on the couch think he's not what we need.

Roos is consistent with Tomlinson.

When he was on the market early in his career we were not interested. Obviously Roos didn't/doesn't rate him.

I agree with Roos, he's not what we need, yes we need outside run & he's a nice enough player but he doesn't make an impact.

The best game I've seen Tomlinson play was at CHB against Dawes...hardly a ringing endorsement.

I really hope we have Langdon tied up.

It's not like it is one or the other. Tomlinson costs us nothing and adds run that we desperately need.

Not too many 190cm + and 90kg + blokes are very agile and would question whether he’d have the pace to match the forward running say of Whitfield, Sidebottom or Hill. You can run all day, but if you’re not quick enough blokes like that will seriously burn you.

All that being said, with his versatility around the ground its not a high risk move. All we’re giving up is a chunk of the salary cap for a player that can seemingly fit in anywhere we want him to. Whilst he’s not the best we’re going to get, I don’t think theres too much else available unless we go to the draft. Past Anderson, who we’re absolutely no chance of landing, it doesnt look like there’s an abundance of outside players who would walk into our lineup.

So if we're getting him for free, what's the issue?

Outside of the 4 year deal, we aren't giving up a whole lot to get him and he's an upgrade on anyone else we have running around on a wing.

If we also snare Langdon, and KK can get over the concussion issues (which is a big IF), then we've upgraded what we have running around the wings immensely from this season.  That can only be seen as a win.

That may be true  (Roos not rating him).

But roos argued he was surprised we were into him Tomlinson because we need outside run. Yet that is exactly why we are keen on him as he is an elite runner (regularly topped has time trials).

Maybe he meant outside player with elite skills (e.g. hill).

I've said it before but jeez I would have liked it if roos had targeted such a player when he was coach, instead of so many meat and potato contested ball winners.

Surely given we dont have to give up anything to get him it's a good deal for us.

I thought Roos said we need wingmen with speed.  Not sure if he meant burst speed or endurance speed.  They are different to someone taking a run down the fat side of the ground.

The Age article says:  " Tomlinson is an extremely gifted athlete and has been a constant winner of the Giants' pre-season time trials".   Again that doesn't equate to speed as we know with our own time trial winners:  TMac and ANB.

Not against getting Tomlinson but would prefer someone who is an elite kick or a forward.  Being 'free' doesn't necessarily make him a good get especially if we get Langdon who seems to have the same strengths and the same weakness: weaknesses our team has in abundance.

On roos and our need for an outside player with elite skills it should not be forgotten that under his watch he ticked off giving up pick 3 for Salem and Tyson, meaning missing out on Kelly.

I supported the decision at the time, but history has not been kind and there is no doubt in hindsight it was the wrong call.

The argument that we would have picked up billings doesn't wash with me for two reasons.

One, I suspect it is not true and besides they actually never had to make the call so who really knows what they really would have done.

Second, if they had taken billings they would have made an error in terms of judging talent and the type of player our list ultimately would need.

Besides even if they had picked up billings he would have provided more outside run than Salem and Tyson.

Speaking of Roos not rating players, wasn't he offered Toby Greene as steak knives in that Tyson & Salem trade and he said thanks but no thanks...

Tomlinson would be a good get but not sure a great one. Has never polled a brownlow vote or got into an All Australian squad.

He did however play an outstanding game on the wing in the 2017 prelim V's Richmond.

I assume he'd be our regular winger next year if he comes across.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
