Brand, brand. Doesn't really mean anything. Yeah we had a brand under Roos - it was defending by flooding numbers back and keeping games low scoring on the hope we'd fluke a win.

Roos did nothing about the escalating Misson problem, put it in the too hard basket. Didn't do much about developing the next wave of small forwards and outside runners, they weren't his priority. Where was the foresight that Jones, Garlett, Hibberd would all slow down at the same time and why was the focus then on adding Lewis to that mix? What about coaches, did he have the right assistants in place to support Goodwin?

Brand, brand, brand. Load of junk.

Hard to disagree with him. we are a neither here nor there as a footy club. i think a lot of it comes back to the quality and lack of on field leaders we have. and that hurts our ability to implement a game plan for 4 quarters.

He was mainly talking about defense, but if you look at who we're putting out there and where they're coming from, not to mention the constant revolving door, I'm not sure what people are expecting.

Until we get a solid back 6 playing more or less regularly together, hard to see how anything much can change.

Oh we have a brand. It's to torture our supporter base decade after decade.

If you ask me they have been true to brand this season ;)

Why didn't you stay to finish the job, Roosy???

If I have any one criticism of Roos it's this.

I understood that in our position, we accepted his short term proposition as something better than nothing and probably better than any other option on offer at the time and I also somewhat understand his reluctance to get into a long term coaching gig.  Only time will tell how we view the Roos legacy over the long run, but right now his reluctance to commit to finish the job his started kind of grates with me.

There understandably is a veritable tsunami of honest commentary going on all of a sudden. I wonder if there is some coordination behind this and to why end. Potentially get Goodwin to consider his position ? Or , following Occams Razor, is it just the media being the media

Nobody left to pick on Super. Bolton, Richo and Scott all done and dusted. These media people have to justify their salaries.

I will say though that we should have perhaps been under the media spotlight a lot sooner.  Goodwin has been damned lucky that his incompetence/inflexibility/tunnel vision hasn't been highlighted earlier.

For me, attempting to replace Goodwin at this point would be very fraught.  I don't see much of a list of candidates that I'd have any confidence in doing any better.  If this rubbish continues next year though, then obviously that changes.

Can someone correct me on this.. Wasn't Roos only wanting to coach for 3 years so he could move to Hawaii to be closer to Tami's family?? Yet last I looked he's still happily living in Australia and now doing full time media commitments??

And then reports come out saying he could be potentially a coaching director for Carlton all of a sudden!?

Interesting when we were winning the finals it was all about how Roosy set us up and the chants that were going on in front of him.. loved it didn't he? now that we are losing its all about Goodwin and how he hasn't got a brand For this footy club.

Spare me..

From what I understand, Roosy is in Hawaii for 3-4 months a year - over the summer - which is why he can do a full time media gig, but not be a senior coach. I'd also suspect this wish would be granted in any football director position he may or may not accept.

His heart was never in it.  PJ's as well.  Both did a very professional job whilst paid to.

Was always a short term 'AFL' driven fix to right a badly listing rusty (culture) ship.

The ship was righted but the rust remains.

Needed at least another two years (or more) from both to eradicate the rust.

We knew what we were getting when we financed the car: a three year lease. It is grossly unfair to blame Roos AT ALL for this. He made it crystal clear what his goal was and how long he was committed for. His and PJ's roles were to right the ship and set the foundations. We cannot pass accountability away from the current administration and coaching team.

What Roos has said is a fundamental criticism of Goodwin's coaching. What we are seeing this year is on par with the trash we saw in 2014 when Roos took over: we battle it out for three quarters and then lay down in the last with deplorable skills. But you know what? Roos quickly stamped that out and set us up. Goodwin was gifted a finals-caliber list that he has slowly gutted with losses of Hogan, Kent, Dunn, Watts and others. Yes it was probably right to move them on but instead of filling those roles he has stacked our backline, effectively putting a barrier at the end of the rail tracks but letting the steam train just chog along at high speed until it crashes on the last line of defense. It's been a shockingly one dimensional approach to list management and has set us back 2-3 years. Unless we recruit line breakers, a KPF, pace, and grow some balls and dump the perennial losers on the list we will just jog along in neutral.

It's been a [censored] pathetic season. Goodwin and his crew get a firm F. Maybe a D- because of the injuries. But that's a big maybe. Our engine room has stayed intact but our transitional defense is deplorable and absolutely nothing has been done in his three years at the helm to stem the flow of goals after a turnover.

Forget about training and educating the players. Goodwin needs a [censored] crash course in defensive accountability, because it's been lacking from the team's structure since he arrived. Remember back to 2017, it was the same issue. We were scoring so it was diluted but the same issue was there. as it was this year.

I hope he turns it around. If he does then we're contending again. If he doesn't then we're down the bottom. Unfortunately there is no in between.

He needs to quickly rebuild our core right through the middle otherwise his coaching career is finished.

That says a hell of a lot about our current personnel then doesnt it?

Has anyone actually checked on our President? Is he still here? Is he still alive?

Something about a new facility is all I've heard since he took on the job.

There is no need for the President or CEO or executives to say anything until they absolutely need to. They pay Goodwin and co to take the heat. It's their job.

I'd expect harsh words at the AGM and B&F and then leading into 2020. At this stage however it is pointless saying anything without a deep dive and review having been conducted on the season. It's not an executives job to talk or say anything before the fact. They pay people to react and preact.

Standard Demonland response. Attack the person making the comment rather than admit the problem.

Roos' situation changed. That happens in life mate. His family were able to stay in Australia due to a massive amount of work put it in by his wife that saw her business really flourish. Worth finding things out before having an uninformed crack at someone.

Part of the reason he's looking at getting back involved is how the performance of the MFC has impacted what he considers his legacy. Sure, he has a healthy ego, but you need that to survive in the footy industry where random people you've never met try to pull you down all the time (hint hint). Some people think of that as competitiveness, so not surprising some Demons fans don't recognize it.

As for fans chanting his name, please, is that a serious point? Did he initiate that?

But again, another Demonald poster potting the person rather than recognizing the comments.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie
