So you want a 200 point thrashing?

May yes, Weid yes and Hore if fit. Sorry Maynard, JKH, Dunkley and Lockhart are VFL players

I want to change things. If you want to just keep going as we are then that's your call mate, but we currently sit 17th with a genuine chance of finishing last. Time to actually shake things up, change the dynamic, reaffirm selection culture and get back our balls.

Although it’s our home game, I think we’ll be outnumbered 10-1 in supporters. Whatever we gained from last year’s season in terms of our supporters attendance, we’ve receded it back to 2015.

Agreed. The club has destroyed the momentum it’s built over the past few years and set itself back off field yet again. We could’ve hit 60,000 members next year if we didn’t [censored] the bed. Instead we’ll drop back towards 40,000 as hope is destroyed yet again.

This match will be ugly to watch, and a convincing win to the Tigers with everything to play for in a top 4 spot. All we can hope for is no injuries at this point.

More likely to be castrated in this game!

What the hell is going on with KK? He needs games for the rest of year so we can understand whether he’ll be useful at all or yet another list clogger.

Delist

First - KK has shown he is a great player, not just a good player. Let him recover.

Second - Melksham and Hore to come in after today.

How are they going?

One of our overarching problems all year is a lack of cohesion across the group. Players routinely chopping/changing, positional changes, no consistency anywhere.

I understand your frustration and your desire to "shake things up" but I think that has to come from the coaches in some other way, not selection.

In saying that, maybe dropping one of our "core" players (e.g. Brayshaw) might be warranted. But I'd be restricting the changes and trying to keep the players that we need to improve out there, as a group.

Preuss was diabolical up forward last week but was handy as a tap ruckman. Unfortunately, Smith offered very litte up forward last night and absolutely nothing on ball. In my view, we may have won last night if we had Preuss, Weideman or T McDonald as the second ruckman. So, although he's only been out one week, I would bring back Preuss (particularly as the stats of the Casey game suggests he had a monster game).

C Wagner isn't up to it and not worth persevering with, so I would also suggest he should be omitted. Baker and Petty were also poor last night, but have a future so could be persevered with, although a swap of Baker for Lockhart might be worthwhile.

In should be Preuss and Melksham (if ready, if not, Lockhart). Plus May if he's ready.

Out: T Smith, C Wagner plus O McDonald if May returns and J Wagner if Hore is back.

Yep, can totally understand that. But I think the core group have packed it in for the year, and we've got far too many players feeling 'safe' this year as it is. We've ignored genuine competition for spots all year, and now we're reaping what we sow in that regard with unfathomable lack of intent, effort and willingness to run.

Id get melksham back in. He is been the player we have missed the most. A good kicker and a good mark and a target up forward.

based on stats alone, it's hard to justify tim smith being an inanimate carbon ruck / forward rod when preuss is younger and needs the experience more

IN: may, melksham, preuss, hore

OUT: o mac, anb, t smith, j wagner

i would personally drop brayshaw and hibberd, but who for? does jkh get a midfield role and hore takes hibb's spot, meaning j-wag holds his spot on the wing?

all such average, average players

If we want things to change, you have to do enough to force that.

Dropping 6 and bringing in 7 is a good start, 1 extra player might help us.

Richmond will go with two rucks, as they have been last few weeks. After his performance today, I’d bring in preuss just to compete with Chol who may dominate a lesser type like Smith. I think Nankervis is up for selection this week, so it’ll be interesting to see if they leave out Chol or Soldo

I don’t disagree and I particularly think it’s important for our backline as we know who our starting 6 are and they need to start getting to know one another. Their cohesion is key to us climbing up the ladder again.

However the reality is we have 4 weeks left. 4 weeks in which we need to make decisions on players staring at delistings. We need to decide who we should try and offload and is surplus to our needs.

We also need to decide what to do about our badly underachieving midfield.

If he wasn’t in AA contention I would give Gawn the rest of the year off for a well deserved rest. I’d throw Preuss to the wolves so he knows what he needs to do in pre season if he wants to ever be good enough to tie Gawn’s shoelaces, let alone compete alongside him.

I would get Gus to go rediscover himself and start playing defensively. I’d give Viney an extra 4 weeks to rest up his broken body and send him to leadership training. I would play Salem on a wing.

I would play JHK where he plays at Casey, as an inside mid, and see if he can cut it with the big boys. I would try Oscar up forward to see if he has a chance of saving his career from total meltdown.

Winning or losing is irrelevant. It would be nice to win sure, but it would be nicer to use the next 4 weeks to make tough list decisions that need to be made.

Preuss' game at VFL level was typical of his VFL performances this year... simply monstered a junior opposing ruck

That being said I agree may as well play him in front of Smith.

If we do play him I would like to see him used predominately as a stay at home forward running to a pre-determined pattern. Richmond will run off him but you never know we may be able to snag a few goals to keep them honest.

has he though? has he shown he is a "great" player.

In Rawlings.

Out Goodwin.

Smith Has to stay in, its no good him being in and out in and out. give him the rest of the year.

OUTS

ANB - Is simply and possibly the messiest player we have on the list, he just mucks everything up.

OMAC - is symptomatic of the club, played ok last year when confidence was up - now looks like nothing but an ordinary country footballer.

JWAG - plays one good game every 6 weeks.  - he did that last week

INS:

MAY - - Take on Lynch his old mate, see how he goes.

LOCKHART - is 10 times the player the ANB is.

MELK - if he got through then play him.

we have a number of good players we can bring back in this week. but we need to do more than that. if jones is playing play him forward, he is a liability in the back line as he is too slow and his disposal efficiency was a bonus to st kilda not us. Jones has shown he can kick goals so play him forward, Melksham at centre half forward, fritch leading out of the forward pocket, Preuss in the goal square and Jones, Petracca and lewis crumbing.  if we can i would put Frost on a wing. he is tall and fast and may be a hard matchup due to his size and speed. he will have a lot more freedom playing on the wing and if makes mistakes i would prefer those mistakes to be closer to our goal than their goal.Just turn him lose and see how he goes.  Hore, May,  jetta, hibberd (reluctantly), Salem and anyone else but Oscar Mc in the backline.

ANB, Wagner, Oscar Mc, smith, and oskar baker as a minimum out. i would try to squeeze JKH in if we can we need to reward players how put in at Casey, otherwise there is no incentive for players to complete, and i doubt he could do worse than ANB at the moment, at least give him another chance though giving him a chance against richmond may not be doing him any great favor.

You're making far too much sense.

We need two rucks..is a given. ( therefore unlikely )

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
