Lockart had a job on Johannesen and puts in., Dunkley is learning. Jetta  ....should he have played....looked a bit slow. ANB lacks physical strength. Preuss had a nearly day.

Somehow we funbled a lot on ground ball. Maybe the surface is a little firmer than other grounds.

I do not think we can afford to carry ANB and Hannan in the same team at the moment.

Why is it that Footscray are able to kick it to moving players. We could do it a year ago, somehow we have lost the art of leading. As a result a kick is going to a flatfooted player (ala Hunt ex Gus in the dying minute, which epitomises our malaise.

BT frothing at the mouth saying Bulldogs are building momentum. What the hell? They are rubbish. They won't do anything in the finals, IF they make it. Melbourne were worse. Threw this game away with poor kicking for goal, again.

Didn’t they beet Geelong last week?

MFC should actually offer us free membership next year for the horrendous slop and the total disappointment of this season . Talk about a  member killing season

Has Petracca ever had a big 4th Quarter? Mission still doesn’t even have our key players fit enough to run out 4 quarters.

I really don't approve of playing Gus on the wing, and Lewis in the middle, btw.

I trust the coaches have their reasons. But Gus came 3rd in the brownlow in that role, whereas Lewis isn't playing next year.

The club absolutely must ask for an explanation about the Gawn frees. A disgrace.

An answer will be given that justifies the decision and pointing out that Max was lucky not to have 50 awarded against him.

First half was very good. Executed to the game plan. Did about the best we had with the talent available.

3rd quarter was rubbish, we were belted around the ball and couldn't clear the 50 despite having 2 7 foot long bomb options. Awful stuff.

Last quarter we were the dominant side. Leaked a few easy goals and kicked a stack of points ourselves. Fritsch misses an easy goal to bring it under a goal and almost a 50/50 next goal wins game.

The Lions started last season 0-8 and scored 2-5-17 in one match.

They are now a legitimate flag threat.

I don't know what that means. But it's both depressing and encouraging at the same time.

I don't know how after watching this game. Must have been an aberration. Plus it was at Marvel Stadium. The pussycats don't like leaving their patch.

Maybe but for mine it was never 50/50.

The ridiculous play on all at all costs is ruining any level of composure our players are so desperate for.

Score a good reflection of the game. Lever and Jetta will be better for the run, makeshift forward line was always going to be stretched, but once again, too many players out, too little consistency in the team we're putting on the park and still too many (fringe) players where chains of possession break down.

Against that, a good opportunity for younger players, and Petty did well, working to his strengths.

Final point: Steven May. Bag him all you want, but showed what real, take the game by the scruff of the neck leadership looks like.

Hardly....had the pups kicked a little  better then the scoreboard would have been more honest...they were easily 7-8 goals better today...Deny it if you like

At one point the leading scorer against the Dogs in the last quarter was the umpire !!

I can only imagine our coaching box is occupied by the Keystone Cops.

No it wasnt all doom and gloom......probably just gloom

We actually have NO idea about how to play this modern game...NONE

It’s hard to believe it’s the same side that played dynamic attacking football last year when you look at the dross we are serving up now. Hesitant, non-skilled barely watchable garbage. Players can’t execute basic kicks and handballs it’s like a bunch of park footballers out there

encouraging for them...depressing for us....all at the same time  ;)

First game with our best back 6 but still a rubbish loss for a game we probably should have won.

Brayshaw needs to be dropped to find form.

AnB can’t be in the team. I get that he’s a team player and he’ll run over and help a fellow teammate up off the ground, but he is just a very poor footballer.

Hannan’s credit in the bank is now at 0. Back to Casey.

Lastly, Goodwin has to raise the Gawn/Umpire issue at his presser. Will be so disappointed if he doesn’t.

I reckon the game was going to have one goal scoring chance left. We had Gawn in the middle, win the clearance and it's game on. The Dogs didn't need to score and clearly we would've had to convert our chance so in that case less than 50/50. Either way, it's not all negative because it really should've come down to the last minute or so and most probably wouldn't have predicted that to start the day given the Dogs form. There were at least a few things to build on.

Keep on keeping on, Demonland.

Wise, seriously dude, go back into retirement.

We are rank. Time for excuses are well and truly over. We cannot possibly continue to make the excuses we do and maintain any sort of self-respect.

Other teams find a way against ordinary teams like the Dogs regardless of injuries.

And yet here you are once again, blindly defending the rubbish we serve up in the name of "Football"

The Bulldogs are NOT a good side, and we are reportedly a good team on this ground of late, and we still found a way to lose.

This has to stop. It just has to.

MAKE

IT

STOP

*dont reply with your normal common sense..... it will be lost on me in my current mood.

Mirror image of the game before. Could have won both games but just do not have the players with class to take the ball cleanly and finish. Poor skills by foot and hand along with poor decision making at crucial times. Get a bit tired of this reoccurring theme. Although I was surprised with Petty's game a 3 goals. At 19 years old he may  turn into turn into a handy player. Well hoping so.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
