Does it really matter if we lose ? Nope. However Carlton will play like shizen this weekend and we will beat them. That could be a worse result than losing to them.

It'll be slightly ironic if we lose to Carlton:

  • in that the media is presently crying out for Roos to save the Blues;
  • in circumstances where the Blues have just beaten us.

Perhaps we should also join the hunt for Roos' signature?

That said, I reckon we're not as bad as many here think we are. There are reasons, most of which are plain for all to see, as to why we have under-performed this year.

What’s the bet not only do we lose but Goodwin is out coached by the blues coach.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all.

The players will probably be thinking we just need to turn up and we will win, it’s Carlton after all. Ha ha ha.

Most coaches “out coach” Goody!

Preliminary finalists to bottom 2 just 15 games later. If you can find a worse capitulation by any club in the AFL era of the past 30 years please let us know. I can’t recall one.

Heads must roll if we lose this and begin competing for the wooden spoon with the Bad News Suns. If not Goodwin then a slew of names within the footy department responsible for the debacle.

This situation is a disgrace to the Melbourne Football Club. To its history, to those who once toiled to make it great and to the loyal members and supporters who help fill its coffers.

The people responsible for this disgrace are not fit to represent the jumper. They should hand in their resignation papers tomorrow.

This is as bad as it gets people.

Wake up.

Crucified in every Match This Year. Go to an Umpires Tribunal Meeting.........

... will mean this place will go into absolute meltdown.

Hoping for a win and if we come to play we can quite obviously win but I'm not sure we've played consistently well in one game this year.

So play well and up to expectations and we'll win.  Wouldn't put my hard-earned on it though.

Please let both of these players be once in a generation type players.

If nothing is done about leadership during the off season the club can go begging for membership.  Totally bored with same old messages coming out of this club.  Apologies to Peter Jackson.  Jacko was no nonsense and his departure cannot be underestimated.

We have too many triehards on the list that never live up to expectations, coaching seems stuck in a boring mire.  Our leadership group needs inspiration,  Jones and Viney are good ordinary leaders but that’s it.  FFS MFC inspire your supporters, get some grunt and get the club out of boredom land!!!

Soi i was with you on this until till you mentioned grunt.  Leadership yes but not more grunt pls.

More burst speed (mids and outsiders), poise and finish with players who can put a bit of space on their opponents, allowing them to steady & hit targets by foot to an AFL standard or better (approx 68% of the time on average).

Same needed but for the receive on a lead with players who can hold an overhead mark in general play up the ground and forward (T-mac / Weid??).

Finish inludes in front of the big sticks where we are presently abysmal outside of a few.

Big clean out needed up forward also but wont happen.  Expect more of the same outside of Lockhart in 2020.  Pruess might give us something if Goody can bring himself to play him at some point and will def assist Maxy who can also hit the scoreboard occasionaly playing up forward (cameo) assuming someone corrects that last step 'sit back' hook /shank.  We've had 2 years to try & still NQR.  Worst coaching team I've  witnessed at the MFC bar Neeld era.

CFC have been licking their lips for weeks waiting for this game.

They would not only have penciled in a win, but probably toyed with the idea of going over it with a biro*. (Yeah im old)

A loss, or even a narrow win means not much to me tbh. We are actually that bad. With the 2 outs they have, we would need to win by our years combined score total for it to inspire confidence. Not gonna happen.

MFC is broken. Humpy Dumpty broken.

This is what I mean.

A win adds nothing to our season so why do people care so much if we lose?

Given that Carlton has a better percentage than us and has performed no worse than us this year I don't really see how a loss to Carlton changes anything in this disgrace of a season. Our coach has a longer contract afforded to him than the queen of England so he ain't going anywhere.

Would just be another of a long list of shameful losses.

If any action should have been taken, it should've been after St Kilda beat us by 40 points on our turf. That was as low as it gets.

So on the one hand, you won' be concerned if we lose to Carlton because their record is around ours.

On the other hand, we should have "taken action" after losing to St Kilda, who have double the wins of Carlton this year.

Do you mean we should have sacked Goodwin after the St Kilda game?

A loss to Carlton would be psychologically damaging to supporters and players. Carlton has been the bottom team, useless and inept for years. The rest of this season would be a total wipe off and we might as well not even go to the games. We will be accused of tanking again. Who is the top draft pick? We could name it the ...(insert name of top draft pick) ..Cup like the Kreuser cup all those years ago - the aim being to lose.

Wins do matter ... both to the playing group,  coaches,  admin & the board.  And importantly,  the supporters & members.

Just imagine how we'd all view it if we finished at 4 & 18.  Sponsors,  prime-time games,  membership,  destination club,  Goodwin and numerous other factors would be at stake

I understand that you want to win as many games as possible t_u as I've read your posts on the subject so I'm not directing the above comments at you

And given our history ... when we go down we stay down.  For years.

So make no mistake,  we need to finish the season well but if we play like we did against the Lions,  we'll be lucky to win another game.

So it is all to play for as far as I'm concerned.

Those eyeing off a top-end draft pick need to realise that there are many other factors at play.  More important factors in my opinion.

Yes, I poorly worded that part of my post.

What I care about most of all is seeing us continue to implement the tweaks to our game plan and structure that we saw vs Fremantle but notably didn't see vs Brisbane. What I saw vs Fremantle was the sort of football that is going to make us a better side in 2020.

I agree but so often we see sides completely fall away from a 4 & 11 position.  We need to do the opposite.

It is all above the shoulders in the next 7 games ... we've got enough good players available to win games.

Agree. Lose this week and the club, and goody in particular, will get the blow torch treatment. And deservedly so.

In some ways our terrible tackle numbers and pressure last game - and the fact they have highlighted by the media   - will help us this week. Can't  see us not bringing the heat this week

It’s an indictment on this year’s squad that we’re going to struggle to match the 2015 squad’s achievement of 7 wins. A squad that regularly featured whipping boys such as Bail, M Jones, McKenzie, Toumpas, Dawes, Michie and Newton.

It’s annoying that it regularly takes a bad performance and a bit of media scrutiny to garner a response from the side. A sign of a really poor club.

No its not. For reasons outlined previously.

That’s the way The MFC has operated since 1965

Exactly why Leadership deficiency is always our number 1 problem

I will be at a footy function with free grog for 3 hours!

So by the time final siren goes and we lose at least i wont feel any pain as i will be legless.

Just be sure to check the fine print on the invitation @dazzledavey36, there's a world of difference between 'free alcohol' and 'alcohol free'.

Lose this and we will lose all confidence and probably finish second last.

win and we COULD get on a bit of a run and end up on ~8 wins and save some embarressment and have something to build on for next year

so I think it matters.
