sorry.... but I don't rate a 16 possession game as a great positive. Good for him.

Gawn... how many hit outs to advantage ?

It's only his 2nd game in a bog ordinary team coached/drilled and trained seemingly very poorly though DJ.  Quality of the posessions seemed quite good.

Did some nice things, whether or not he's one for the future is another thing.

At least Tom scumbag wasn’t on the team to enjoy the win and we still beat him at the dorks.

Gotta look at any positive possible.

My worry is that the players are falling into bad habits and once again  getting used to being beaten. Other clubs such as Collingwood and Richmond have heavy injury lists which explains say a 20% drop in form ... ours has been almost total.

So Richmond , Essendon , Collingwood etc get the Dreamtime game , we get the nightmare game . Thanks Dees for finally breaking my heart after 65 years . I cannot take it anymore , or until next time !!

6 players with under 15 games out there today... Want to know why this team looks different from last year? Because it is a completely different line up mainly due to injury.

We really are playing like a team with next to no chemistry again which makes sense when a third of your team are new inexperienced faces.

Looks like this season might be done and dusted

Im sorry but this is rubbish.  Teams with good methods, training and structure who come out with white line fever (we dont!l) still hold up ok and some very well with a stack of injuries or also ran players.  See the Hawks & Tigers pls.  They don't plumb the depths that we do and find soldiers to come in from downstairs who play a role no matter how few games they have behind them.

This is a 'whole of club' problem from the boot strapper, the recruiting team, the line staff, the coach and many of the players who go missing when the heat is on.

It was the lack of effort that did it for me today, they were hitting the ball at pace and we were just jogging around chasing tail. Where was last weeks effort? Might as well forfeit next weeks game if thats the best we can bring. Trouble is I've booked to go up.

Very sane comment.

  • Demonland changed the title to POSTGAME: Rd 10 vs GWS

Another pathetic game from the team with 0 GENUINE effort and once again zero confidence in Goodwin's lack of  flexible game plan.

Where s the Plan B. When you kick 1 goal in 2 and a half quarters its worth trying a few things.

Gawn was our only winner on the field and he wont throw him forward for 10 mins. Rest him there in the square!

Throw Petracca to a back flank and Garlett on the wing or to the back flank.

We need to stop gifting games to the Wagners and Stretch. Id rather give games to anyone else except them 3.

C Wagner - not AFL standard

J Wagner -  not AFL standard

B Stretch - Horrible - Not Fast, cant kick, cant make decisions and is soft

H Petty - Too early to judge

O Baker - Showing signs

T Smith - Needs to be 3rd tall only.

C Spargo - Lost all confidence

J Lockhart - showing effort at least but has limited ability

Biggest concern is our last rising star nominations was Oscar McDonald in 2016. 0 in the last 57 rounds!

Take away Clayton Oliver, Harmes and Lever im not sure our 18-23 year old will go on with it.

Is everyone on the same page at the club?

I'm questioning whether there is clarity in gameplan, sync with player development, recruitment and training strategies to properly implement and learn the plan to win.

We need to urgently drop Fritsch, Spargo, Garlett, Wagner and Wagner

Stretch, T Smith are keeping spots warm for others returning from injury

Petty, Baker, Lockhart should be played to grow them for 2020

And there lies the problem Hellish.  The entire club needs a rocket or not only will 2019 be the season that wasn't, it will carry on for an eternity and multiple boards/coaches/teams to come over further decades of wilderness!

Ridiculous call on Lockhart. One thing he’s shown in his seven career games is ability.

I really don’t see the point in getting carried away when we’re running half a VFL side out there..

The doomsdaying seems a bit blinkered!

it's the complete lack of form of the "better" players that we are lamenting.

If we were saying that a, b and c almost got the team across the line etc then it would be better.

Make no mistake this season has been abysmal.

Day was off to a flyer with Alan Parsons Project as pre game tune.....

Deary me.

No it’s not. You can’t forgive lack of effort and intensity no matter who’s playing.

On the back of no AFL pre season.

He has upside

oliver's game was hampered by constantly being held and pushed with little response from the umpires. a lot of frees went by the wayside today. a lot of poor disposals as usual where we could not even handpass it to players 5 meters away or kick it to players 30 meters away. poor defensive pressure allowing opposition players to hand it off to a team mate and then run on to receive it back while our players wander around. it amazes me how often we kick it into our forward line directly to one or more opposition players.

If i was the coach i would make the whole team watch a replay of that game every day next week with the sound up so that they can hear the commentators assessment of their game. maybe even watch last years final against the eagles. Then find a game where we played well and make them watch that in the hope they can see what they should and should not be doing.

that and give petracca, hunt and jeffy kicking lessons.

They had 2 on the bench in the last.

Kicking 7 goals in a dead quarter doesn’t change the result and if Goodwin uses it as a positive he is treating us all like fools.

Most of us who attended today didn't see any of those 7 goals. Absolute junk time.

I had my 2 young boys with me and they were bored sh1tless when we'd kicked 2 goals midway through the 3rd qtr so I took them home,  something I rarely  do.

Thought we'd be alone but I was astounded by the number of Dees fans going home so early, all of them fed up.

Time for the club to be pragmatic and play the kids. Manage those players with injuries to the point of putting them in cotton wool. There are two standout players in this years draft and second last wouldn't be the worst thing for us.

Agree Chook. Tigers and Magpies have plenty of injuries and playing so called VFL players but they give their all and play to team structures. Thus they are still in top eight. Our mob whilst VFL players also do not put in and have no idea what to do when we get the ball. Actually same with our better AFL players.

  • GAMEDAY: Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG to face the Tigers in their annual Blockbuster on ANZAC Eve for the 10th time. The Dees will be desperate to reignite their stuttering 2025 campaign and claim just their second win of the season. Can the Demons dig deep and find that ANZAC Spirit to snatch back to back wins?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
