Jordan Lewis (ankle) didn’t do much work on the track but still a chance to play against the Eagles. Jake Lever looked sharp and is set to return via the VFL this weekend. Simon Goodwin to speak to the media shortly.

I think the people calling for OMac head are just missing having the chance to bag out Jack Watts!

OMac won't be dropped, he has not been bad in the last two weeks, West Coast have 3 key targets in Kennedy and Darling and Oscar Allen.  We also lose Hibberd from the back line. 

Smith in for Keilty, ANB for Milkshake , and maybe Baker/Sparrow if Lewis doesn't get up, or bring in Pruess if we want to change our structure up a bit, and allow Gawn to float back into defence as required.

I pointed this out last year but for those who do not know of Stats pro on AFL.com it is a brilliant resource.

If you are a Telstra customer, in addition to having access to live pass you also have access to video of every player's involvements in each game from the last 3 years. 

It is great way to get an objective perspective on a players game.

Watching the video of Omac's last two games highlights that a key feature of his game is how many spoils he effects. All of his 13 one percenters last game were spoils (and 9 of 10 v the Hawks). Spoils often go unnoticed by commentators but even they made comment on how many spoils we made (though of course not the fact that Omac got most of them). 

It should be noted that reflecting his poor start to the season Omacs one percenters were way down (averaging around 5-6) prior to being dropped, and no doubt that was a big factor in him being dropped. 

Omac killed Peter Wright - gave him nothing. Don't believe me, look at the evidence.  If Wright gets off the chain we lose that match.

Colins meanwhile gave up 3 goals to TMac, who despite those goals most are saying still played poorly.

And i can't believe in the analysis on Footy Classified and AFL 360 i saw that Collins' decision to sag of TMac (his man) at the death and his failure then to get back on him and either stop him kicking the ball off the ground or stopping the ball was not highlighted (or even commented on) as it literally cost GC the game. I have no doubt Dew highlighted it in his review

Preus for Keilty, Milkshake can't be replaced so we'll have to settle for ANB. Oscar some terrible efforts against Hawks, but thought he was better this week, actually showed some intensity at times. Won't be dropped. Not sure who replaces Hibberd

Omac played on Roughhead didn't he? other than Roughy kicking that goal from outside 50 he was poor enough on the day to force Clarkson's hand and drop him to the VFL. Omac deserved to be dropped earlier in the year, since coming back in his game has improved. OMac is likely to lose his spot to May when he is given a chance to return to the AFL. But that's more due to Frost's form has been stronger than OMac. 

Not sure there is a like for like replacement for Hibberd in the VFL, Hore and Wagner are the most similar and they are already in the side.

So typical of this season that Melksham took 4-5 weeks to start playing good footy. Just started to play the best footy of his career and then get's injured again.  14 touches in that first Q!

weideman had a good vfl game the week before last but pulled up sore, so is unlikely to come up for this weekend, and you have to reward good play, so...

Tim Smith did not play against the hawks. He was a late withdrawal and replaced by keilty. Hard then for him to keep us in the match. Perhaps you meant the tigers game, in which Smith was good (not great) in so far as he took a couple of contested marks. Not sure he kept us in the match though. 

Oscar can't win a contest? If you mean aerial contests as I pointed out in another thread omac had 13 one percenters (and 10 against the hawks incidentally), which measure defensive efforts (but basically spoils) against the suns, which is elite. 7 more than any other player. As a result his (very tall) opponent could only manage one goal - and that was from a pass Oscar couldn't stop.

So whilst he is certainly slow and has other weaknesses you could have highlighted, not winning aerial contests is not an issue. Sure he doesn't win every contest and last week against the hawks he lost a couple of critical contests (none last game) but show me a defender who doesn't lose some contests. 

I would agree he perhaps doesn't win enough contested ground ball but his job as a tall defender is to stop his opponents marking it and he has done his job in that regard in the last two weeks. Two weeks that we have been defensively very strong and won both games. Would be a strange time to drop him then.

You're right Binman - Tim Smith didn't play against the Hawks. I did of course mean the Tigers, and that he took some very important contested grabs early on,  but I busted a rib playing padel and the painkillers have made my brain a bit wonky. Nowadays they should read 'do not operate heavy machinery or post on the internet'.

I still suspect however that your moniker 'bin-man' is an allude to Oscar the Grouch = Oscar MacDonald. The main problem is that Omac lacks grumpy. You're defence of the oft maligned Omac is admirable, and I'll try to meet you in the middle by admitting that I do have confirmation bias, but he continues to lose crucial ground-ball contests and that is definitely a part of his job.

I don't have any confidence that Oscar will win the ball when it enters his vicinity. And I don't think he does either. But in all honesty, my biggest issue is with Tomald - and I think it's natural to search for any solution when a key player is so far down. Sending him down back isn't the answer however, even though I sincerely believe that if he played within Oscar's parameters he would be better.

He's Oscar's mum I wouldn't worry too much. Thinks he is a combination of Stephen Silvagni, Chris Langford and Bruce Doull.

Most of us can see that he is currently a liability. But at least he's tall....

Over to the mids to work as hard as they have all year. Going to be a test. Do we give up and concede or do we do what Richmond did in Perth and just go for it. Eagles are not flying by any stretch of the imagination.

Max will also need to push back at every opportunity to support the defence in the air and stand in the hole in front of their leading forwards. Need Preuss to come in to do the forward half ruckwork (as well as play as a marking target himself of course)

We surely can’t play Lewis on a 6 day break with him barely doing anything on the track. He’s slow enough as it is, I can’t imagine him doing much better after coming off looking very sore vs GC. 

I think all three outs should be the walking wounded (Hibberd, Melksham, Lewis) + Keilty out for ANB, Pruess, Smith, and Petty.

It's funny that you say this - for the very first time on the weekend I suspected that our players were hesitating kicking to Tom.
