Congratulations to Nathan Jones on the accomplishment of becoming the equal second games record holder at the MFC today against the GC.  Somewhat fitting that he shares jumper No.2 with the late Robert Flower, as although they are somewhat different styles, they will go down as great captains and players for the MFC that loyally stuck with the club through some hard times for the team.

I actually wounder if playing this match with Jonesy was something which factored in Jack Viney declaring himself fit?

Anyway go forth and get the job done for the skipper today lads.

Great captain

Great clubman

Great player

Well done Jonesy

Well said.

Was chased by other teams during his career and knocked them all back to stay with us during one of the least successful periods any club has ever had. His love for the Demons is unquestionable.

Quite simply, will retire a legend of the club.

Congratulations skipper. Hope you have a game worthy of your time at the Dees.

As the oldest and first real dynasty club we have a rather comparatively poor record when it comes to long-time club servants, with just the one 300-gamer. Nat's relative achievements are as great or better than anyone in the past fifty years, but without any real outstanding brilliance I'm afraid his legacy will be dented by serving for the majority throughout our darkest recent years, such as other top two-dozen club stalwarts J. McDonald, Brad Green and Bruce Cameron from the same era. Even Davies - who displayed brilliance - has been largely forgotten. Well done Nathan, and good luck on the weekend.

Whilst it's clear that he is no longer at the peak of his game performance wise, I think Jonesy is still making an important contribution in games.  He was one of the key instigators that dragged us back into the game against Sydney and I felt he was also one of our good players against Hawthorn last week.  One thing is for sure is that he never gives up trying.  It's almost like the worse the team plays, the more he lifts at times.

That goal against Geelong in the final last year was a great moment and I'm hoping there is still one or two moments for him to top that before his playing days are over.  Love Jonesy being a part of the teams success after so many years of squander.  Robby never quite made it to that illusive grand final, but maybe, just maybe the story could play out differently for the MFC this time for once?

Nathan Jones is a MFC legend.  Chunk has grown into a leader.  Tough.  Determined.  Loyal.

He will be remembered by all of us.

Will he get to 300.  Perhaps?

Well said Balls & Norm.  All of that AND the ultimate professional.  Love watching his reaction after kicking a goal.  Has dragged me to many a game when i've been on the fence during tough times. Go the Jones boy!  ?

N Jones  love the Guy. Stuck it out in the dark days  and we  had someone to lead  us through possibly the worst of our era,                           Loyal till the end   he really is a  legend.

Struggling today

Good last quarter.  Should get another year for mine.  Just don't play him on the wing on a big ground opposite a snail.  Like Frost, has been unfairly dragged down by his comparable pairing.

Congrats Nathan pulling equal with the late Great Robbie Flower... RIP.

Celebrate with a win.

And eyes to Perth,  guys.

Go and get your legs in the Surf up there, quick.

Are they flying back tonight ?...    I hope they stay up there until tomorrow evening...  giving them a chance to get many beach-water walks in.

I missed the first quarter but what I saw he would have been in our best few players. His decisiong making and ability to kick to the right spots stood out in such a scrappy match.

Thought his last quarter was as good as he has played this year,   Well deserved win and a great day

Given the list balance experience wise I think chunk plays on next year. I imagine Jeffy and Lewis are going at years end, leaving a bit of a gap experience wise.

Playing 300 in modern footy is quite a feat. If chunk does it we might have to wait a very long time to see it happen again.

If anyone cares to reflect on Jones' loyalty in tough times, consider this -

Robert Flower: 272 Games, 88 wins, no draws, 184 losses

Nathan Jones: 272 Games, 86 wins, 3 draws, 183 losses.

Another side note, since his debut he has missed a total of 11 games.

Has been a great warrior for the MFC.

But sad to see those stats: Nothing has changed.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
