If Correct the tail is wagging the Dog!! How friggen Selfish! But how Typical and short sighted are MFC!

But if we're being realistic, Viney is a burst player and he wants to be in there now when the season is on the line and contribute to a resurgence. No point trying to get him 100% if the season is done. I'd take a 90-95% Viney playing through soreness over ANB

I must be on the wrong site- people complaining about ANB being dropped? What happened to many posters saying he should not play again, the coach has no idea for picking him etc. one decent game changes your opinion?

GCS are no easy beats. Have people watched their games? We need our best team in there right now. The season is on the line this week, not the week after.

We haven't earnt any confidence to assume this is a win and Viney can return v wce.

Fiorini is a big out for GC. Been very good

Thanks John , Point is how many times can JV say he is fit when reality and history have revealed he was less than ready to go. I don't care about Pain thresholds or 80 % fit this seems to be a common theme. As Simon Goodwin iterated "Its his call he knows his body"

Nar Bulltish, it should be up to medical experts to call a player fit, not the player!!

This is Unprofessional IMO  if so!

I can , however see where you are coming from!

Cheers

Pretty simple formula, you play badly you get dropped... you play well (and he did play well) you stay in the side unless a better player can come back in. Viney a better player at this point of the season is debatable, thus the comments.

Viney a better player than Alex debatable? Okay conversation over.

No offends to Alex, I like him and he tries hard but is limited

Another week of hmmmm selections, ANB was far from our worst last week....Wagner or Lewis were more deserving of a run in the VFL

We will be a better side when Lewis & Wagner r out. I would've dropped Wagner 4 Neal-Bullen.

In a team balance (inside/outside) sense, not purely rating as players.  If you are doing a pure comparison of course you would say Viney over ANB.

But they aren't playing the same role. Horses for courses, niggling fitness issues, given who we are up against this week....ANB was a keeper.  Viney managed in prep for the trip West (assuming 90% or better).

From the outside, and of course knowing very little of what the hec is really happening at ground level (ie, flying blind) it appears to be a no brainer (for this week against GCS at least).

Read the context “at this point”, as in Viney has been sub par before his injury  and ANB had his best game of the season. You can blindly go on and say Viney is the better player without the context.

Both of them are limited.

Only one for me DV and that's the first one you listed.

Would have been better keeping a winning (better balanced inside/outside) team and resting/managing Viney for another week to bring him closer to speed to play the Weagles.

I assume they're doing this (managed) with Pruess for the same reason.

And for the reasons you stated,  i reckon ANB will be 'In'...  for someone else out ?

I wondering if they'll give the Tracta a rest at Casey for a couple,  like they are with Weide atmo...  Weide to return against the Eagles ?

Demoted to Casey and was told to tackle, tackle, tackle. Plays his best game this season second week back imo, did what ANB does and gets dropped. Extremely unlucky.

Wagner was petty good against the Hawks. He’s actually been very good I feel since coming back in.

AnB is about right I feel. Jay Lockhart is probably keeping him out rather than Viney.

Jesus.. i watched the replay on Sunday and ANB didn't do anything major to be dropped. And thats saying something coming from me....

Viney of course the [censored] would have said he's right to go when he's probably only 70%.. selfish as usual from Jack.

Agree entirely with your view. Unfortunately Vineys style is not to ease his way back into the game, it is crash and bash from the start. An admirable quality but some caution needs to be exercised with his history.

Get the context. At this point Viney is out co captain and a much better player then ANB.

Viney will go down as a MFC legend when he lifts the cup in a couple of years

Fritsch should’ve been dropped before ANB.

All l saw from Fritsch all day were dropped marks, kicks out on the fall and getting pinged for holding the ball. And last week was one of his better games for the year!!

I though a stint in the VFL was in order for him.

Can't see Tracc coming out but you never know DV.

The only player i could see ANB replacing would be Stretch.

Weid injured himself at Casey didn't he?  Can't see how he would be ready by next week if he doesnt play and play very well at Casey this week.  Someone else would need to part for him also which will obviously depend on performance this week.

ANB was definitely hard done by IMO.  I understand stats are not everything, but in assessing effort,  he had the most pressure acts (26) and laid the most tackles (8) in the side last week. He also had a reasonable disposal efficiency (74%). It would be great if the mod had the chance to put back to back games together.  Others were much worse.

This begs a serious question.... Who played on Roughy last weekend and kept him to 8 touches, 1 goal and zero marks?? I was there but can't remember.

Agree.  He had a very average game.

Only thing I can think is that shoulder AC doesn't stop you running, it just stops physical contact and maybe overhead ball handling. First few weeks Viney seemed underdone fitness wise, hopefully he has been able to work on that.

Don't get ANB being dropped after a good game, and his work off the ball is huge, that running power is a weapon even if the skills are occasionally unreliable.

Agree, felt the forward line and team defence were better, because of his contribution. Would rather see Wagner out, or Lewis than ANB!

IMO, we need Stretches run and speed, and reasonable kicking. linking up...  and Stretch needs Us,  to give him some games on the run.

Tracca has been treading water for far too long now,  just going.   It sounds to me like he's lifted intensity a little just recently...  but IMO going back to Casey could be like a confessional for him,  To get that monkey he's been cultivating from his back.

Some of our players,  including many of our young players,  haven't gone forward this year.   I think most of them need a wake up call.

Just like it seems the club is giving  Weide,  atmo.

I reckon many could benefit from a little reminder... especially for those who haven't been on the Casey field,  in recent seasons.

That reminder could well serve the club well into next season.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
