Its a long season.

It's not just about a single season - this is a group that will be together for 5+ years (10 years for some).

People should go back and look at what happened to Geelong after they got to the Prelim in 2004. They spent two years going "backwards". Then ... wham.

It's happening because players are playing as individuals, not as a team. At the very least, they're not trusting each other.

Good onya for being earnest, Ernest. Let's not pull the shotgun out just yet.

Go Dees

Of course part of the problem is that our anticipation and excitement was high because of last years 2 winning finals and the Demons were talked up by all over the summer. Wayne Carey is still a believer. Never thought I would say good for Wayne.  So our excitement has been dashed on the rocks of our expectations. Or at least we were lulled into a false sense of security.

I will try and take a leaf out of your book on positive thoughts and try and look at the whole show more constructively.

During wartime, it looked likely that Germany would win both world wars but not to be. Our war has been going on a little longer which is another part of the problem. There are many of us who are running out of time to taste the victory champagne. It''s no longer character building to follow the Dees and accept defeat. Lets go Demons.

Reluctant to post lately, I'd just be repeating myself from last year (Petracca- bust, Jones- gone, game Plan, no players with foot skills etc). But win the next 5 and we're in the 8.

I find it very concerning that players have to still "buy in" after we just missed a spot in a GF..... something not right there.

Other than that, no matter what Simon says.... we are unfit due to too many post season surgeries. No matter how much we expect, two way running won't be visible until they are fit enough, round 6 or round 15 who knows. I think a down year this year with an easier draw next year.

I'd be throwing the kitchen sink at Jeremy Cameron also.

You shouldn't have posted this, a lot of people on this site will believe it.

But it’s important that you do your duty.

Its your dharma. You will have a good afterlife where you will live a blissful eternal life unlike others on this site. And I am not thinking of you Bitters or Biffen.

Well done dworship you get a VC for your sacrifice.

I am seriously running out of time Ernest. However I accepted a couple of years ago that I would not see another flag and would accept a power team that would play finals most years. Well it looks like the run was one year a bit short of a run. But hey I have been here lots so lets enjoy the few joys we get this year and hope for a better 2020. Hmm 2020 has a good ring to it.

I am a fan of Oscar Mc but what he did on friday night was just plain dumb.

Having now watched the entire game back on TV, since I was at the game and obviously miss things there, I was absolutely stunned at Oscar on several occasions leaving his man and running to no mans land in between 2 Bombers and forcing Frost to try and run back to cover for him, thereby leaving his man.

No wonder they had loose men and got uncontested marks in the forward 50, it was just ridiculous.

Then, when 2 backs jumped for the ball and Devon Smith is lurking behind the pack, near the Bombers goal, what does Josh Wagner do, he mans up on Smith, NO, he goes 3rd man up, leaving Smith to goal from the crumb. Wagner did this several times too.

Either our Coaches are dumb, or our players are or they all are.

Manning up in those situations would have saved several goals and probably have seen us winning, despite the umpiring.

Seriously, this is under 8 's stuff. How the hell is it allowed to happen.

Lastly, Jetta, has lost all pace, Hibberd and Jones have lost their kicking disposal, our key forwards lead to the wrong spots, our small forwards are slow, can't kick goals and are not applying enough pressure to keep the ball in our forward 50 and our mids don't help defensively.

Viney has no confidence from 30 out and passes to players in worse positions.

Max has no help.

Fix all that and we can make the finals and still have a good year.

Last year start of the season, same errors:

- nobody minding goal square

- 2-3-4 players go the punch, while opposition left to crumb unattended (J Wagner has less awareness than Frost!)

- loose defenders, rarely manning up

- no chasing in middle of ground (Jones is worst offender, looks like he is above chasing his opponent)

- bomb into forward line

- don’t lead in forward line

- don’t tackle in forward line

- across the ground, everyone try get the ball, even from one another, while opposition just wait for it to come out

- Under 12s

It will take an amazing turnaround to win in Sydney.

Anyway fingers crossed.

Go Dees!

One question to any of the guys who watch training. Do the backs all fly for the ball in training and try punch it, while nobody stays on the ground for the crumbs?

Od I think I’ve tried to argue against you keeling over before we win another flag, I’m not too sure now. I think I might not make it to another one and I’m 40.

I didn't see it, but Viney has yet to impress in interviews. It's why I question whether he's truly the best choice for captain. I don't doubt his on field desire or his love for the club, but in my opinion, the role of captain includes being the voice of the club off the field. That part of the role has become significant and I don't think he fulfils that role properly.

Do yourself a favour and head over to the MFC website and have a watch..

But i agree completely with everything you have said. I know he had limited pre season, but this is where his leadership will be put to the test now with us not winning a game yet. Will he be the one to pull us out of this rut?

No, but i'm guessing he talked about taking it one week at a time a lot?

Pointless exercise the first time around.

No doubt it’ll be carried out once again - probably for a similar outcome.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
