I think our media dept stinks this year. Whatever happened to the vision of the debutants being told they were to play. The Casey reports are very basic. It used to be that members would receive a text about team selections. It looks like very little effort is being made to inform and involve the membership. I put this down to Pert. Maybe I’m wrong but I doubt it.

Couldn't find anything in the team selection to whine about?  I got my text at 6.26pm

To date I have received 13 emails covering both the 1st and 2nd rounds, a nice video about Marty Hore's debut on the website

With showers in the afternoon and a cool to cold evening,  it will be greasy conditions IMO.   Being in front at the ball,  crucial.

I think Spargo should be in, in these conditions.   I would leave OMc out, in these conditions as well.   Lockhart should suit the conditions.

At the start of the week I called for a straight swap of May for Frost.  Now the teams are out, I can see some logic in playing the 3 tall backs.  Firstly, if either Hawkins or Ratugolea get a hold of their opponent, it gives us a chance to change things around.  Secondly, I fast forward to the return of Lever, and reality is, when he's back, we will play him, May and one other tall.  So with that in mind, I wonder if Oscar will play on Rohan, then zone off and be the intercept like what Lever will be.

I had zero confidence last week.  The closer that game time gets this week, the more confident I am getting.

True to form Saty. I have not received that communication despite being a member and what I said about the Casey communication etc still stands.

Not worthy of its own thread, did the club send out the preseason magazine that has articles and the coaches word on players? Have received it past years but not this one.

I think it went out electronically!

Heartbeat came out in digital version:  https://memberhq.s3.amazonaws.com/afl-mfc-2019/uploads/MFC_2019_SeasonGuide.pdf

I guess it is saving a few $ on printing and mailing.

It must have come in an email (which I can no longer find).

Good to see the heights and weights in there. Weid has put some on and I never realised Hannan was that tall!

Thanks Luci. I don't recall receiving it, but it might have been in an email I missed. I'm quite impressed with its up-to-datedness. Includes Lockhart and relatively recent injuries (such as JKH).

geez...  I hope not,  I'm not confident in Oscar on smaller opponents with speed.   The cats recruited for speed, and they got it.   Rohan will be far too quick for Oscar, and moreso in slippery conditions. I want to match Ratugolea's speed and agility with Frost.   Rat is too mobile for Oscar.

Oscar has not come on as I would have hoped for.  He's showed some signs,  then goes back into the box he was first purchased in.

In my team I posted i shuffled the small back deck chairs around back and forth about 15 times until I was happy with the midfield setups and the defence as well.  Salem I wanted two of.

I'm also wary of gAbletts strength thru the hips,  and a slippery conditions, i think will suit him.  Hes a danger for our match-ups.

I would drop Oscar and play Keilty.   Then we have either Frost or Keilty to aid Max around the ground or to play in defence. it gives us options.

Aand Max can push forward to create seperation for Weide.

I thought we were the top goal scoring team last year??

I think we where talking about midfielders kicking goals. And without Hogan they are going to need to kick a lot more than last year.

Can't see us winning this, still too early, too many players underdone, and most importantly, too little time spent playing/training together.

Still think we're going to have a rough few weeks, could easily start the season 1-4.

I could be wrong.

Agree about not beating Geelong.

I assume the 1 win is vs the Saints?

We must beat Ess - for so many reasons, a loss next week to that horrid club who are playing dreadful football would be completely unacceptable.

So 2 - 3 minimum.

You maybe right. We will get done easily tmrw but we can start our season on the 5th of April. I am hoping for 3-2 or 2-3 at worst. I have predicted 3-3 so will stick to that.

Gee last week before the weekend most people had this team down as Top 4 material - after one game everyone seems to be scratching their head wondering where the next win could come from

How things change quickly !

We have to perform at our best week after week for virtually 100% of each game to be any chance of finals IMO - tough draw - tougher competition

Hopefully Jones, Viney and Melksham are better for the run although the latter was pretty good considering. May has played one JLT, KK one Casey scratch match, hopefully they have enough base behind them prior to their injuries in January. Slight concern, backing the team in to rebound regardless.

By the way, can any ‘landers please shed some info re traffic, parking at Cat Park on game night? Pubs for a frothie pre game?

Clatworthy's (Sawyers Arms) or Gold Diggers. If you're going early for a frothie, your odds of finding a carpark improve. I do like that about Geelong - still able to get a park without a grey ghost sniffing after you.

I'll be there - parking in a mate's driveway a few minutes from the ground ?

Go Dees!

The Cattery is not a happy hunting ground for us, but surely Clarrie won't have two quiet ones in a row? Can only hope they all respond and play well.

Its definitely been like a bad romance for us down there.   Hopefully Goodwin will bring his best poker face to the game,  and avoid the paprazzi after we win.

There are a million reasons we need to get the victory tomorrow night.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
