Very unlikely to Stretch on the G again. Great heart, great trainer, not so great on the skills & footy brain required to compete and win at the next level unfortunately. Wish him all the best.

Before he got injured last year I thought he was on the up.  I wouldn’t be writing him off

Sparrow was very good in the practice game against a fairly strong Pies unit

I would rather Lewis tho - he was good all preseason

I was there.  He barely touched it.  Kicked a nice goal.

With injuries and suspension in the backline that’s a big out of correct.

For all of his aging legs he is still the best general we have down back.

Its amazing that now a Marty Hore gets a chance to take some of the important kick ins and may be the direct swap for Lewis to start on the ground. A natural kick plays small and tall and a regular attacking backman. Will  be up and about and will  take his chance to play his role well.

Lewis is as good as his last game.

Which was worse than terrible.

I probably shouldn’t reveal that but signs aren’t good for Josh Wagner, Corey Maynard & Billy Stretch.

Sorry but all players will get their chance at Casey and it's a long season

Maynard this time last year looked like it was certain but injury cruelled that and form since hasn't been the same.

If happning, I'm assuming this is not a like-for-like change and that we're more likey to see some variety of Hunt, Fritsch and Salem spending the time in defence while Sparrow becomes a bit of extra grunt-weight.

I trust Salem to take responisibilty in defence, I trust Fritsch to make a fist of it anywhere he's sent, and I, uh, hold onto lingering hope that Hunt can get back to his sabre-slashing finest any moment now.

I'd plonk him on a wing where he can run or in forward line for some added speed and pressure

Guys, I can let you know that Tom Sparrow will debut tomorrow as Jorda Lewis won’t play.

Good luck Tom

Did you read that in a tweet?

Last year we went for Maynard in the first round? See this, if true ,as a bit strange, so hope we fare better than last year.

We have passed over a fair bit of experience.

Good luck to Sparrow but it all counts after round 22.

Hammy in the last session of a 5 month preseason?

You’d be cut

especially as its likely his last season

Along with 90% of the team

Good luck to Sparrow. Preuss must be wondering why he joined the club, can't get a game ahead of Wagner or Sparrow very much left field choices.

Do tbey all play the same position?

Team balence.

They are playing 2 ruckman I think that would be enough for team balance.

Either way, it's all on Goodwin's shoulder's.

So because Port are playing 2 rucks, we should do the same? Great theory

Seems a strange decision, but if it's going to be a bit wet and slippery, then playing Sparrow makes sense. The FD must really see something in him because, as others have said, he looked a fair bit off the pace through pre-season.

Hoping that he plays a ripper game and surprises us all.

Given the conditions and the emergencies available it definitely makes sense. 3 talls and one small on a possibly wet pitch. No brainer.

rain should be over by game time and mcg dries out very quickly (only 2mm forecast and in morning)

Agree. The humidity will see to it that the ball will seem slippery. In Darwin last season it looked like wet weather football to me from the boundary. Preuss is important and will get his chances.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?

It was only a preseason match but the new look Demons spearheaded by new coach Steven King looked impressive as they put on a clinic against perennial cellar-dwellers North Melbourne as they cruised to an 80 point victory at Casey Fields.
