low flying Robbo 979 Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 so whats the go? We need to beat Adelaide by enough to make up 40% or so? Quote
FarNorthernD 5,863 Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 Everyone should get on board for this game. The AFL have made it difficult via the conference allocation, the umpires have made it difficult and by losing two games by four points we have made it difficult for ourselves. If we pull a big win off on the weekend against the premiership favourites it will be epic. Go the red and blue! 2 Quote

Whoever wins out of those 2 guarantees themselves a spot with 24 points. If we win, we go to 20 points and should go above the loser of that game, but then we are also on the same points as Adelaide, who have a much greater % so we need to overcome that Quote
whatwhat say what 23,855 Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 we need to win by 26+ to get a spot in the finals it's extremely unlikely the conference system is a farce Quote
Dees_In_October 3,515 Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 I wonder how they'll approach it - take the pressure off and play with a bit of reckless abandon, or like any other game. Back in our game (which is our usual approach) or go defensive then try to steal it? Quote

I’d like to see all out attack early, throw everything at them and hope we open up a 2-3 goal lead. That might force the Crows to take some risks in trying to reduce the margin then we go ‘kapow’ on them again as they open up. I can’t see us outscoring them by the 4-5 goals late in the game if it’s close for the first 3 quarters. Build the lead then build Fort Knox. Demons by 27. Edited March 15, 2019 by Dee Zephyr 4 Quote

rjay 25,424 Posted March 16, 2019 Posted March 16, 2019 Why do we keep bringing blind kicks from the full back line back into the middle of the ground & open the goal face up for Adelaide? Quote
DemonWheels 1,118 Posted March 16, 2019 Posted March 16, 2019 Something about this score line is reminding me of recent bad memories. This club is at least consistent across both teams. 1 Quote
darkhorse72 1,943 Posted March 16, 2019 Posted March 16, 2019 Not much to say today. Over in terms of any finals chance at end of 1st. Just playing for some respect now. Quote
chookrat 4,268 Posted March 16, 2019 Posted March 16, 2019 Dont give up hope, were still in this and if we can claw back to level pegging then only need a quick 5-6 goals to gain percentage needed to finish top two - Go Dees! Quote
Little Goffy 14,963 Posted March 16, 2019 Posted March 16, 2019 Well, they went in super high risk in the hope of getting an early lead and momentum. Backfired, to say the least. Unfortunate to drop heads but such is life. Quote
Lucifers Hero 40,716 Posted March 16, 2019 Posted March 16, 2019 The sad part is we have played really well all season. Now, there is no 'next week' to earn respect and redemption so the team have to live with it for a year. An eternity. It is reminiscent of our final 2017 game vs Collingwood. Hopefully, it spurs the women on as it did our men. Really feel for the players. 1 Quote
david_neitz_is_my_dad 4,084 Posted March 16, 2019 Posted March 16, 2019 I guess it seems there was a small crowd there and not much interest on here helps the fall somewhat Quote
whatwhat say what 23,855 Posted March 16, 2019 Posted March 16, 2019 I do not want to play any dirty bird franchise related teams in finals, or virtual finals, for the foreseeable future... 1 Quote
Dees_In_October 3,515 Posted March 16, 2019 Posted March 16, 2019 Simply out-played, out-classed and maybe, out-coached. A very disappointing end given that our best can be terrific. Unfortunately, we were so far off that today and the Crows were comprehensively on top in every facet. They should go all the way. From slim pickings, the efforts of Mithen, plus Downie and Cordner under siege, were our best. And of course Emonson for kicking truly ? Despite a poor effort and result, I have every respect for our players, playing for the love of the game and often making sacrifices to do so - some we hear about and others we don't. They'll be disappointed to say the least. At some point this week before we're all consumed by the men's game, I'll try to put a thread together where we can reflect on the good, bad and the ugly from this season - there's lots to celebrate and this last game will probably overshadow those aspects so it would be good to do that while the season's still fresh. 8 Quote
58er 6,872 Posted March 16, 2019 Posted March 16, 2019 I would have thought the usual end of season memories of some team efforts highlights and positives but when we have finished out of Finals tantilisingly close (for a third year in a row)there are more lessons to consider WHY and examine what is needed to take the next step to serious flag contender from a solid but really unspectacular team that lacks X factor pace and aggression and still forward power to convert opportunities. And please don't expect Daisy to solve any of those problems next year when she returns. 1 Quote
Lucifers Hero 40,716 Posted March 16, 2019 Posted March 16, 2019 (edited) We had 3 'home' games at Casey and lost all 3, albeit 2 by less than a goal. However, we don't train at Casey so effectively we have no 'Home Ground' advantage. Casey isn't geographically convenient for training but It has some unique conditions which we haven't capitalised on. We need a game plan that works there. If we want to make finals imo we need to have some in season training sessions at Casey and increase our preseason work there. On a different note, this is not good for local fans, especially kids who only see us lose at Casey. The area is supposed to be our growth corridor for all red and blue teams so we need to win there to maintain their interest and attract other fans. Edited March 16, 2019 by Lucifer's Hero 1 Quote
