Hee hee - Chris Heffernan - curious about your logic on him please.

  • Demonland changed the title to Out Best 22 Imports

You can't include Lever based on 10 games yet. That's just projecting.

Out: Heffernen, Lever, Pickett and Rodan
In: Vince, Hibberd, Melksham and Garlett.

You also forget Gary Baker, Stephen Icke, Peter Vardy and Peter Rohde.

How you could contemplate Rodan, Carman, Catoggio and Turley is beyond my comprehension. They played but a handful of games for Melbourne, none of them any good.

Jeff White - Darren Bennett - Byron Pickett - Peter Moore  etc

Coach = Paul Roos

Would like to see Daniel Cross in there too.

How about Alastair Clarkson? I’d put him on the bench or coach.

Powell a definite. A short time but a good time.

Peter Vardy deserves a guernsey, thought he went ok.

Checker Hughes worth consideration

Jordan Lewis and I don’t have him in the current best 22.

The significance of his decision to come to Melbourne can never be undersestimated for the credibility it gave a previously basketcase club.

It also reinforced to the players, staff and long suffering supporters we were not only on the right track but heading into contention for a shot at a flag.

Melksham and Hibberd are locks for this team. A big part of our resurgence as a force in the AFL.

In ancient history, my grandad used to say that the importation of Percy Page and Checker Hughes from Richmond was the key element in setting up sustained success and 10 flags for Melbourne from the late 1930s till 1964.

In the current era Jackson/Goodwin have been the most important imports we’ve brought in, together with Roos - “the recession-buster we had to have” to paraphrase Paul Keating. Goody looks as though he’s a star in the making as a coach ?, but we did need Roos to get our moribund club through ICU and out of being on life support.

I know they’re not players, but they are likely to be the most important imports we’ve had for a long, long time.

Can we squeeze Shaun Smith somewhere in there? For mark of the century alone.

Yeah true, but Vince really made the inertia real, and introduced a style of play that the Dees could be proud of!

Sure was. Had one real good year. Might have even finished on the podium in the B&F

More than just taking mark of the century, Smithy was an absolute gun.

Hard as nails (probably too hard for his own good given his concussion damage) and also provided a father-son who could still be anything for the MFC.  I'd find a way to squeeze him into the team somehow.

Would be garenteed to feature in the highlights real for this side every week.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
