hey guys, just a quick question, do we have our 1st round draft pick for next season? I've really enjoyed watching sparrow train this year and miss the feeling of having an early draftee at training sessions :)

Yes. Steven May and Kade Kolodjashnij could also considered an early draft pick.

Mentioned in today's Age that Neitscke did his ACL last Friday and will miss 12 months.

Geez that's shocking if true

Thanks for the reports!

Not great news about Hannan’s delayed start to the season.  He was excellent for us in the back-end of last year.  Hopefully he can get enough Ks into the legs soon.

He can watch his EF sealer against the Cats on eternal loop while he is waiting.

I can still hear and feel the roar of the crowd. One of my favourite moments of my year. Can only imagine what it feels like to be the player in that moment

Yeah he was there. From the couple of passages of play I saw of him he looked as clean and composed as ever.

I'm still filthy (as should he) he was overlooked in the prelim, meanwhile Tyson jogged around and picked up a massive 3 kicks and 1 tackle for the game.

Hopefully he can take his game to another level year this year as he has class written all over him.

I like to think that TMac is messing with the AFL. Having pulled out of AFLX he's now pretending to have an injury to justify his absence. (At least, that's what I'd like to believe.)

Exactly.... can't be seen to be 'fully fit ' ;)

Yep, good report.

I have actually talked to him about it, he knew Stewart was closing, said the roar from the crowd was like a wave crashing into him

Was in two minds after second bounce, but decided just to concentrate on kicking the goal

Knew about his knee issues a couple of weeks ago, but asked me to keep it to myself until after second op, disappointed but hopes the issue is now behind him

Expect him to go into beastmode this season.

Hell, that will be brilliant! He can be such an asset to our team as a player and as The Beast.

Full article in the little paper (for those who can get access) - https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/more-news/melbourne-swingman-tom-mcdonald-the-latest-star-to-withdraw-from-aflx-tournament/news-story/42335073cf0e7799a8e0055728f780dd

Says the knee op was planned to happen after AFLXit, but they brought it forward. no chance he misses round 1.

Imagine the outrage if Tommy Mc played AFLX then had an operation after it. What the hell were they thinking? Why was he even training today and not in for surgery right now?

This is a weird one.

Cortisone injection, apparently to alleviate some patella tendinitis.

Hopefully he comes back quickly and in no pain!

I can't get behind the paywall (and don't really want to) but there's no way a cortisone injection can be described as a knee op.

He was running on the one spot at the end of the Hawthorn game, his tank was empty after a great first season

The rest of the team followed suit in the prelim

He has spent the off season working on his tank, has been the consistent standout during pre season

Knee op!? I'm not liking the sound of this....

The Melbourne Facebook page is calling it a "minor knee procedure". Relax.

The article does not mention a cortisone injection. It only mentions that he will "undergo a very minor knee procedure". He is missing the AFLX because "the Demons have brought it (the procedure) forward so McDonald can feature in the JLT series" and emphatically states. "He is no chance of missing Round 1."

Calling '@Webber'...I think we need your professional opinion on this.

When is a minor knee procedure not an op/is an op?????

What could it be that Tommy is having done????

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
