I wouldn't be surprised if we are interested again this year in Ben Long. We asked the question after 2018.

Looks to be on the outer now: https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/stay-up-to-date-with-the-latest-trade-free-agency-and-offseason-news-at-your-club/news-story/e8cffa2ab482a05ce62808ed04cc49de

He has the versatility to play at both ends, but with Lockhart and Nev gone, we have limited options for small quick defenders, and I think he would be a good option there, and wouldn't cost too much.

Don't mind Long. But offers nothing that we don't already have.

Chooses when he wants to put in.

That [censored] doesn’t fly with Goody. He demands 100% effort, Ben skates by on 10%.

I think we're not too bad on cover for the small backs right now.  Deakyn Smith has looked pretty good at Casey, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if he got a look in at some point.  Hunt is still around and Bowey is only going to get better.

Pass for me. Hunt and Deakyn Smith are still on the list, we might have Moniz-Wakefield coming onto the list who might go to half back and let's also not forget Kade Chandler spent a lot of time in defense in the scratch matches in Queensland last year with good feed back from the coaches. Long doesn't interest me.

Low footy iq

Also wouldn’t be surprised if JJ has a stint at half back next year.

He's a sniping [censored] just like his uncle. Plus he's an ordinary footballer in general.

You want players to improve your team not make it worse.

Fully agree - undisciplined, gives away stupid frees trying to show how tough he is.

definitely suited to the backline rather than the small forward role essendon r eyeing him off for

Huge no.

Super undisciplined and anytime he plays he gives away 2-3 free kicks that just weren't there.

Hard pass for me

I think we have gone past recruiting spuds like the Neeld era where we gave away players like Martin and Moloney replacing them with very ordinary players.

I remember our trade in 1980's we gave away Wells for 3 spuds.

We have plenty of half backs and smalls at this point

Pass

Very undisciplined, and average player.

Yes. Fancy JJ at half back.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
