Demonland 74,443 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Former Demons' CEO Peter Jackson will be our very special guest on the next Demonland Podcast on Wednesday 17th October @ 8:30pm. Let us know if you have a question for Peter. We'll also be doing a wrap up of Trade Week if we ever get around to doing any trades. 7 3 Quote
Melb-A-Toast 257 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Question for Peter. Rather than do a wholesale clean out when you took the reins, there were some key people retained. What were the aspects of some of those people and did you redefine their roles/day to day functions significantly to suit the revised goals of the Club? 3 1 Quote
Hellaintabadplacetobe 4,335 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Brilliant get guys! 4 1 Quote
Wells 11 5,503 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 the obvious question really. Whats his thoughts on his successor? 3 1 Quote
McQueen 17,867 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Huge get fella's - definitely a destination podcast now. Can you please ask Peter to expand on how he set about the culture change at the club? Like what were the top 3 items he pulls the trigger on to set the scene (so to speak) outside of getting Roosy to the club and given the clubs was on its knees. Cheers 2 1 Quote
Deeoldfart 8,201 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Great get guys. Many thanks!! I'd love to get an appreciation of Peter's 'gut feel' on how we now rate relative to other clubs against the following criteria (eg. mid table, top 3 etc): Melbourne as a destination club? Club finances (with special mention of the impact of the decision to relinquish pokies)? Club culture? our list? 1 1 Quote
david_neitz_is_my_dad 4,084 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Good get! Arriving at the club day 1 what was something that you saw/noticed that needed to be changed immediately? 1 1 Quote
Bates Mate 4,520 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 How did he feel at the B&F when 1600 supporters gave him a well deserved standing O Favorite 2 or 3 wins during his time Worst losses, both gut wrenching. eg the Geelong game after the siren and ones where he though I'm not sure if are on the right track here. What does he think of the plans for the new base near jolimont station, is it relistic how far away are we? 3 1 Quote
turnergreen 9 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Been lurking here for the last few months but I'm one of the bigger PJ fans around so this was enough to make me sign up, well done! My question: What advice would you give someone at the start of their career who wants to work in football admin, and what makes someone good at the job? Its impossible not to be inspired by what you've achieved since you started with us. 6 1 1 Quote
Deevout 534 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Fabulous. Roos now PJ, the guys that stopped the ship from sinking. Quodos to Demonland for getting a chance to hear from their perspective what the club was like at take over time and beyond. I listened to PJ’s speech at the B&F via the live stream while in Singapore and you could see the emotion coming through regarding his feelings for the club. My question would be: did he ever feel daunted with the task at hand in the early stages after he took over the postion? A monumental challenge to be sure. I remember being at a game at Etihad just after PJ took on the role, and we were playing a “home game” there against North. The Dee’s were getting flogged and I said to my mate who I attend games with that I was going home to mow the lawn, as it would be more entertaining than watching this rubbish. (Sorry but it was an emotional time getting flogged week in and week out was taking its toll) my mate said to me as I was leaving, do your realise that’s the new CEO sitting in front of us. I said no and I hoped he heard what I said. To go from that moment to watching the crowd at the “G” after the win in the Elimination final against the Cats was a moment to be savoured, and I reflected on where we had come from and where we had got to under Jackson’s leadership. I will always be so so thankful. 2 1 Quote
Jibroni 5,058 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Great job team. Question request: Thoughts on future games in the NT? 3 1 Quote
binman 44,843 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Brilliant fellas. Not so serious question: do you believe superstition plays a role in the chances of an AFL football team winning a given match. 1 1 Quote
Rodney (Balls) Grinter 11,064 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Awesome coup for Demonland. In his time with the club, he really tried to elevate the brand of the club and in paricular the being associated with the name Melbourne as a capital city. Would be interested in hearing Peter's thoughts on what that means for us going forward. Does he believe it is feasible for us to get up there with the 'power clubs' in Victoria in terms of profile, stability and membership base. Would also be interested on his thoughts on the member/supporter demographic and attitudes at the MFC distinct to other clubs. 1 Quote

Rodney (Balls) Grinter 11,064 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 (edited) Just reflecting on Peter's time and presence at the club, despite the circumstances he inherited at the start, I can hardly remember any administration or board we have had that was as calm, organized and professional. Also can't remember an administration with fewer ex MFC personal (Robbo is almost the only one I can think of). Whilst many have attributed Jimmy Stynes, Garry Lyon and Chris Conelly's time at the club as a negative influence in various respects, from what I can gather, there are also other clubs where it has worked at - as I understand it, Jason Dunstall has a fairly significant involvement at Hawthorn and just thinking about it, closer to home Todd Viney has made a pretty good contribution to the MFC. Would be interested in Peter's thoughts on the role of ex players/'old boys' within footy clubs and also if he feels we should be actively welcoming and promoting more back into the fold at the MFC. Rodney (Balls) Grinter 11,064 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 I can also suggest a next assignment for PJ. Since he did do well with his last basket case, I suggest that he be nominated to run for PM. I'm sure he would do a better job than any of the muppets we have presently got in Canberra. Kind of has a ring to it too - "PJ for PM!!" 1 1 Quote
