Jesse (in tears): this ..... this is the most beautiful day of my football career!

Goodwin: I know mate! Tell me about it. We got 5 and 6 AND Gus's brother, AND Freo have to pay US half your salary!

Jesse: w ....... what???

Goodwin: Now f**k off back to to purple freak land, the rest of us are going down the pub to celebrate.

Other players: yeah, f**k off Docker! P*ss off turncoat! etc etc

[Jesse drives back across the Nullabor playing Taylor Swift songs all the way]

This alternate ending is both sad and hilarious!

The Taylor Swift addition is ?

can anyone recall 1 time when hogan has caught someone holding the ball?

Not a particularly memorable stat... I honestly can’t remember the last time Oliver or Brayshaw did either.

I can remember when he kicked 47 goals from 20 matches, won 36 free kicks whilst giving away only 16, pulled in 125 marks and 365 disposals all while averaging over 2 tackles a game as a key position forward.

Exceptional tackler!

But can you remember the last holding the ball awarded to him?

I get the feeling that there is a lot in play for the club this trade/draft season.

We must have had some pretty solid commitments from players or clubs that they will trade with us if we have opened up so many spaces on our list and are willing to look at possible trades for Hogan, Tyson, Kent and VDB. After all, we do not have any early picks in the draft at present.

I do not see much in the way of free agents looking at us.

Yep. We'd better get some serious quality coming our way or it'll be a train wreck

You can build a team around a young man like Jesse Hogan.

Cerra and Brayshaw might be excellent players but you won’t build a team around them.

Freo has to pay up big.

As an aside, will Port put two of those together to get a higher pick?  Say they trade 6 and 9 for Pick 1, then Carlton sends Pick 6 to GWS for Shiel (if he goes there) while keeping Pick 9 as well.

There's probably no chance that happens, but it's common knowledge that both SA clubs are looking to get up the draft to nab the home grown talent there, so they may be willing to do some deals.

There are many permutations for Port and Adelaide and I would imagine they are both talking earnestly to the clubs with picks 1-5.

Their need to deal to trump each other is what will make it fascinating.

They may end up so focused on 'winning the race' that they lose track of the real value they hold.

Mate i literally live in WA and every freo fan is laughing at the suggestion of Brayshaw going.

and what would a fan (us incl) know about club to club negotiations....of course they would be laughing just as we are at the notion of just accepting may for hogan using a single 1st rounder.

let them laugh their head off when they get hogan for a winning deal for mfc, coz it's gonna cost them big

Think it will be the following

Freo receive pick 4 for Neale

trade 4 to port for 9 and 10

Give MELBOURNE pick 5 and 10 for hogan ( this gives us the two top ten picks but not 4 and 5 thus freo take one top ten to the draft)

MELBOURNE give 5 (hopefully 10) for May (might be 10 for May or 5 for May and kk)

MELBOURNE go to draft with either 5 or 10

Surely Port wouldn’t trade picks 9 & 10 for pick 4?

Depends how desperate they are to get one of the SA boys, plus they are likely to get Pick 6 from the Dogs IF Wingard decides to leave.

If they went 9 and 10 for Pick 2 and a second rounder, for example, they might pull the trigger.  That's an example based on nothing, but the lure of the SA players might sway them to bite the bullet.

Why would GCS not hold onto May and keep a probable 2019 compo Pick 3? We'll need to offer a little more. Lots of pick swapping to go under the bridge.

It’s a fair point, if Hogan goes and now without Pedo as a gap filler, what would be do if we lost either TMAC or Weid? Tim Smith has never shown me anything at AFL level that suggests he is capable. Is he the next in line though? Is Preuss part of this plan?

Does one of Oscar or frost potentially play forward if Tom goes down? Perhaps we have our eyes on someone.

Preuss could be the forward and ruck key.

Would prefer to keep 5 and 9 and give Freo, asking price will be too much for May.

Because they wont either Rozee or Rankine and willing to trade up to do it.

I thought that too, but the tone of today seemed more stand offish. I still expect them to ask for more than that. Whether it's an extra pick in the 20-30 mark I don't know. Look at the Gibbs trade. 10 & 17 for Gibbs and a 2nd and 3rd coming back. Could be something comparable.

On the final siren site they said that Luke Parker could be part of the equation.

Of the two picks we get for hogan one goes to the suns for May and the other goes to Sydney along with Vanders for Parker.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
