Banjo knew all about trade week.

5 and 23 McLure thinks now. 5 for May. Jesus.

Frost is actually a very good idea. Bringing in May makes either Frost or Oscar surprises to needs (a little like Tyson). GCS will need an immediate defender replacement.

11 and Frost for May might be agood result for all parties (clubs and players).

Hypothetically, if we'd lost Frawley for pick 11 and Sam Frost, while the other club kept pick 5 - i would have been livid. No way would Gold Coast accept that. Has to be another 2nd or collection of picks followed by our finest poker face to get it over the line.

So, according to McLure, that makes May equal to Hogan.

He's a goose.

GC are quite right to play hard ball on May, but I'll be disappointed if we have to give up 5 to get him.

Hoping GC happy to do May for  11 then, plus maybe a sweetener to GC, so they can move on.

That would leave us with 5 which would be great.

No chance I’d say.

They can hold May and the compo pick will be in top 3 next year based how they are expected to perform.

why would gold coast accept pick 11 for may when they get a top 3-5 pick for him next year through afl compensation. do your research!

Because like us (with Hogan returning West) they might be sick of the hype, and don't want another year of it. They might get a high pick, but the speculation and disruption to the club for another 12 months given that his manager has stated that he'll either stay on an extended contract or leave this year... 11 by itself might be low in their eyes, but it's above market worth for the player and he's 26 (27?)  so might only have 3-5 solid years left.

Except we get him for nothing next year....

And May has been painted as a bit of a negative influence for thier young team, so although hes worth pick 5, they wouldn't want him to be there for just one more year (due to that negative influence on him). I think MFC is fair so will do it for pick 5 and maybe KK gets included in it as the sweetener.

You'd wait a year, in our premiership window, because you're unwilling to part ways with a draft pick that will almost certainly not have a dramatic impact on our side in the next 3 years?

Personally I'd just get it done if he wants to play for us.

and why would any club offer better than pick 11 knowing they get him next year for nothing.

The argument runs both ways

Fingers crossed that the colt from old Regret doesn't get away!

McLure is 100% a goose.

GC wouldn’t want to Keep a want away ‘captain’ when they want to turn over a new leaf. They don’t have too much bargaining power. 5 is overs for sure

I think the scenario has been that the Dees have requested pick 5 and 6 from Freo for Hogan. Freo have declined but said they will give us two first rounders if they can acquire them.

Pending the deal for pick 5 from Brisbane to Freo for Neale, Freo will trade us pick 5 and pick 11 for Hogan and we will then trade pick 5 to GC for May and enter the draft in the first round at pick 11. GC will not accept pick 11 for May knowing full well their compo at the end of next year would be a much higher draft pick.

Edit: Swapping or trading of later draft picks will also be involved for the Dees to acquire KK from the Suns.

When i saw the Port/Freo pick swap, i had a feeling that Freo will try and push us for a few days to take the 20's pick. We still have some time to go I think.

The uncertainty in all this is the type of contract we would offer May next year.  If he wants out, and is still happy to come to us, his contract won't be as great in 12 months.  Therefore, the compo might not be as high as we think.

(That's what I'd be reminding GC when I offer Pick 11!).

Quote

Based on 2018 ladder, Fremantle acquires more than 1000 extra Draft Index points in this transaction. Equivalent pick 17.
Freo get - 11 (1329), 23 (815), 30 (629), 49 (287) = 3060 points
Port get - 6 (1751), 50 (273) = 2024 points

wow nice work by Freo and very helpful to our cause

Port still have 6 & 10 which possibly gets them 2 of highly rated SA prospects Lukosius, Rankine, Rozee and Hately.

That's win-win trading

So we get 5 and 11 for Hogan. I reckon 11 is too high but will have to be accepted. If we waste 5 on May it will be a disgrace.

Why does everyone accept that GCS will get compensation pick 3/4 next year? What if they finish 9th and the bottom 8 sides lose free agents? Their fist pick could be around 17. They have no way of knowing what the compensation may be. 11 this year could be better than the unknown.

Sam McClure has no idea. I think he’s drastically underestimating the quality of Jesse hogan. He could be just about anything.

Hes clearly worth 2 first round picks.

we should flood SEN with texts telling McClure he is a complete Dingbat.

Melbourne will trade pick 5 for May.

I'm looking forward to the meltdowns.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
