In Regards to WCE, what can they offer.

Pick 21 and 22.

Maybe take Barass and pick 21.

Good thinking but we could turn pick 6 from Freo into 2 early teens and trade one of them for May and would be better off.

What I know from some what I consider good reliable sources

Meth Coast have always had an eye on Hogan but this current move may have forced their hand a year early

Fremantle as is well known have constantly been monitoring Hogan

Dees have planned well as I said earlier in the thread the club has been in constant dialogue with Jesse over the season assessing his plans post 2019 as list managers prepare moving forward

Tom Lynch was considered as part of a plan but we were ruled out early as the Hogan talks continued

We were Gaffs club of choice but not prepared to pay what he (his manager)was asking. Has that changed after he saw how close he was last week and realised what it actually means to win one, I have no idea

Hogans trip to Perth this week is nothing suspicious it was long planned he and mates are heading to Europe and may include Oktoberfest

Suns want May out if he is not prepared to commit beyond next season. As they move to restart their culture and despite the bravado will take the best offer available (within reason)

Edited by Pennant St Dee

Oktoberfest finishes on the 7th, he better get his skates on!

Well I just hope that this doesn't backfire on us and we end up losing Jesse and don't land May.

By the way we have Oscar, Hibbard,  Frost and will get Lever back so where will May fit?

I can see why they would want an answer from Hogan because next year it will all be about him and will he won't he re-sign with melbourne but I really don't want him to go because I just fear if something happens to Tom then we have to rely on weiderman. Yes he had a good back half but could he step up and take the lead.

In saying that I did think at some stage Jesse would go home. I think now we could cope with his loss where as a few years ago it would have felt like the world may have ended.

Also heard this, however I heard part of the reason was the whole Brayshaw incident and Angus' quote in the media after it happened, which was:

"If this has happened at a nightclub or on the streets, it's an assault," Brayshaw told an AFL website podcast on Tuesday.

"You're probably getting jailed for something like this, I would imagine ... I just can't believe honestly that it's happened."

I'm a little skeptical of that being part of/the reason, but just what I heard.

we should only trade if we end up demonstrably better off. best on offer is not acceptable unless it satisfies the former.

if not, we keep hogan, no sweat, and go through it all again next year

You have my 100% agreement dc.

we should be saying this is our requirement take it or leave it.

Reality is that Freo need Hogan now, delay, and the Eagles loom as viable alternative. And Freo need this deal more than MFC, we’re now top 4 irrespective and perhaps capable of acquiring May even with Hogan on the books.

Freo’s Picks 5&6 gets it done, any less and we wait.

Commentariat proposing less are afraid of how strong we’ve become, and how we only become stronger with two top ten picks to “rebalance” our list.

Well....not really DC. Our leverage is much greater right at the moment. Freo will have much better picks this year than is likely next. Sure we can keep Jesse...but we won't get the same ridiculous offers in 12 m time.

I'd rather have players in 19 that will be there in 20. Let's continue the construct and refinement without hiccups.

I just can't get my head around that everyone in the media is saying Jesse isn't worth 2 top ten round picks, if he wants to leave?

We could also have a serious Crack at winning a GF in 2019 with JH still at the club.

Worry about 2020 later. If clubs don’t want to play top dollar, then all deals are off

I don't share your view.

Ignore them, how else would they try and give away Bertocchis?

Trying to but it just p*&@*& me off?

I don't know why Freo would refuse to give up pick 4 and 5 on Hogan he is a gun. They were going to pay a lot for McCarthy didn't who is a better player? As for May why would Gold Coast want a player that doesn't want to be there? They don't want another Ablett situation.

Don't worry we've got this. Hogan for May and Max King.

They Freo are trying it on us, because we have form.  Being bent over, has been common for the Mcc, 'err' Mfc, in the past.

We have to show them we will not bend down for anyone, anymore.

if we get May it will be a case of where will Oscar and Frost fit.

We have the whip hand and really should drive a hard bargain on Hogan.

We're in the premiership window and if don't get what we need we keep him.  Pick 5 and a future first would also be reasonable.

It's really not that crazy. Recent history tells us we can expect two first rounders but not two top 10 picks in the same draft for Hogan alone.

The Treloar and Lever trades are the most recent examples I would be inclined to use as a precedent - a top 10 pick + a future first rounder and an exchange of later draft selections.

In the event that JH requests a trade there will be elements to a deal that will be completely unpredictable, despite all the speculation in the world from journos and fans alike.

Any leaks and all leaks will come from Freo, as they want this in the public Domain for the commentators to talk down his value.

For some reason they dont want Melbourne recieving picks 5&6 and whatever else come our way.

Good point you make, i would love to keep Jesse and somehow give gc a future pick/picks.

Why are folk getting upset about what pundits believe he is worth? They don't set the market...so they can think and postulate about whatever....its all going to be ok, really it is. It's about as relevant as me posting on some forum somewhere in the public domain about what I feel he is worth...it means SFA

ps: he's a 5 and first round next year.

As Roos said a few weeks back the media and football industry in general can be like sheep...the whole thing gains momentum and they just tag on and then we get this almost hysteria about it (whatever the issue is)...

Think the Carlton priority pick scenario as a recent example.

The media built it up from maybe to a roar that they must apply and would be certain to bet a priority pick they would be mad not to apply.

The AFL commission knocked it down...for good reason.

...and it all died down.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
