That's him! Instant tough nut, just add mullet.

Or the tough stickers.

Unfortunately we have to deal with fireworks from the scoreboards every time hawks score a goal tonight....

Then the Hawks will save a fortune tonight.

Goody seems a calm person and I think that has a massive influence on the team. At half time last week after we missed all those goals they didn't panic at 1/2 time. He just got them back to the basics and structures.

I think we can now cope with being favourites. They have that belief.

Can't wait to see harmes on mitchell tonight. Hope he can stop him.

By the way AFL can you do a late swap. Any chance you can take Nicholls off our game and move him to tomorrow. Heck Id even take razor ray over him. I did feel slightly less confident when I read his name as an umpire.

Is he the player that commentators refer to as a ‘tough nut’ purely because he has a mullet?

Partly mullet, partly his Mornington Peninsula (not the good parts of the Peninsula either) heritage.

I played cricket with his dad...little bloke but hard as nails. He had a mullet too, although they were all the rage in those days.

Yes they have outs but Hawthorn are still a great outfit, coached well and have experience across the board.

We should win, but I fear we may run into a team desperate to respond who rarely lose two in a row.

Hawks by 25. Would love to be wrong

Have some faith... The bullied has now become the bullies. We will be WAYYY to hard at it. Get used to being favorites ;)

Harmes to Mitchell.

Jones to Smith.

Jetta to Breust.

We need to curb Gunston.

Shiels who was fantastic last time may again need to play attacking midfield role with O'Meara out.  I'm confident our mids can go head to head with him and say Burgoyne.

Anyone mad enough to be in line at the MCC yet?

I’ve heard people are using Airtasker to advertise for people to stand in the line for them.

I can't tell if that's a joke or not.  Either way, good joke, or even better true story.

Just want to commend all our supporters flying down to Melbourne and driving. Good on ya Legends. It aint cheap to travel.

Yell hard tonight.

True story. Money well spent in my opinion.

Agree.  Excellent investment.

For those who haven't read it, this is a good piece about the merger game in R22, 1996.

Fascinating to read about how everything has played out since then (Jack Viney was 2 years old when Todd played this game, Clarko racked up 29 possessions against the team he'd later coach with great success etc).

So much has happened, and the disparity in our respective success over the years has been well documented.

Tonight's the night to well and truly bury all of that. We've built the blocks for a new era. A new legacy. No more hoodoos. No more unflattering records. No fear.

Just for the record in 1961 Hawthorn had zero flags and the Dees coming to the end of a golden era eleven. Fast forward 67 years they have now won 13 one more than the Dees. No team in over half a century has heaped more misery on Melbourne than bloody Hawthorn. Winning today will partially erase a lifetime of bad memories. With Stratton and Omeara out we will never have a better chance to repay the Hawks with a footy lesson. History show that team that finish 5th_8th have a poor record winning two finals in a row. There is a tendency to overrate the victors from the bottom of the eight and underrate the losers who over a season have been better. The Dogs showed it not impossible though but this will be a tough game. Dees by 7 points.

Look for somewhere with a beer garden as it is going to be 21 and awesome in town. The Imperial on corner and Bourke and Spring. I’ll be heading to Carlton Club on Bourke that has a brilliant deck and $8 furphy pints.

The grace darling in Collingwood is the go. Goid pub. Half price pints of coopers 5-7. Good outside area. 20 min walk to ground

We have a lot to thank Don Scott for how bloody awful are those Dork jumpers. Abomination is the word that comes to mind.

There is just no way I would have supported a merged club.

Those jumpers are a disgrace

Flew down from Brisbane last Friday with Sons and Grand Sons. Cost a bit but well worth it as first time in over 20 years at G. Tonight all of us in front of TV yelling and screaming over many VBs

Landed but so tired. Had a lovely old lady snoring louder than a Massey Ferguson under full load and passing enough wind that half the plane was reaching for the oxygen masks

Looking forward to hopefully catching a few Z’s this morning before grabbing a coffee and the rag for a peruse.

Where’s pre game hydration take place?

I had pre game beers at Duke of Wellington on Flinders St last week and will do so again this week. A sea of red n blue breaking into Grand Old Flag every 20 mins. Some nice eye candy too. Unfortunately @Bitter but optimistic scared them off with his flamboyant get up. Otherwise, it has a very good vibe.

For sure! It was putrid then, and it has not aged well, either.

The Duke is a great pub! (and even better when filled with the red and blue)

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
