Just heard on the news thescalpers are doing a great trade, thumbing their noses at the State Govt's new anti-scalping laws. What struck me was the prices wanted for tickets. Rich V Haw @ $300-400, West C V Coll $400 and for Melbourne V Gee $1500+. Clearly the game of the weekend. Hey, most of the Melbourne supporters who could afford that price will already be sitting in the MCC members. lol

Just announced that less than 1000 tickets left. The only empty spots around the ground will be AFL reserve. Pity they couldn't block off the top tier in AFL and sell to general public.

I have a ticket for sale:  Olympic Stand.  Level 1.  M53.  Row W. 

@ cost price of $82

It is for sale as I was able to get a seat on Level 2.

What really pisses me off is that those prices are set with no expectation of actually selling them all. Sell 5 at 500 and toss 5 in the bin, still better than selling all 10 at 200.

I thought the law only effected the GF... and any other major event the govt. deemed fit to include.

Isn't it the sometime anti scalping law, or the when we can be bothered gazetting it anti scalping law, or when there are enough votes in it anti scalping law, or the when I can't get a ticket anti scalping law.

First time this season the law applies to all finals.

Last I checked there's some for the Thursday night game too (due to the fact they released a batch for both games yesterday). Seen people complain about missing tickets via ticketek to both games yet still seats available as of Thursday arvo.

Anyone that is scalping tickets to a finals for big dollars has no morals.  Karma will get you.

As for the Melbourne V Geelong game 1500 + dollars  each? Find a nice hotel room between you all with some nice views, order all the fine foods and pop the bubbly. Watch the Dees demoralise the kittens and then Paint the city RED and BLUE.

My father would buy series tickets and any spares he would give to the Salvos and they would sell them. At the time I never understood, he was a kind soul.

Well it would appear that I am the odd one out here. I have no problem with scalping. I have a problem with how people get multiple tickets but back to scalping. If a person has a ticket or tickets and wants to sell to the highest bidder than fine by me. No one makes anyone pay ridiculous prices. If the price is too much stay home and watch it on tv. After all the AFL uses a not too dissimilar method. It is called price at what the market will bare. Get  over it folks it is the real world. Especially as the authorities refuse to police their laws. Pay up or stay home simple really.

Getting multiple tickets is at the heart of scalping.

The problem with scalping is that the scalpers do get multiple tickets by use of technology and or influence, the regular person doesn't stand a chance. One of the ticketing operations actually encourages the practice.

This is not mum and dad making a couple of bucks on some tickets, it's an organised operation.

Scalping is good. I'm after 4 scalps. Cats, Hawks, Pies and Tiges, in that order. Then I'll be at peace.

Lol, I'm guessing your not an economist.

Buying something to specifically withhold it and create a shortage, and then exploiting the crisis prices, is historically the greatest scourge on the market system and is directly responsible for a variety of financial crises and even of famines multiplying in scale. Come to think of it, I'm guessing you're neither an economist nor Irish.

In this particular instance, you have a simple situation where the withholding of tickets in a context of already tight supply is inflating prices far beyond affordability for a 'reasonable' consumer. In turn, the actual provider of the product (the MCG) is being denied the revenue from their product because there are fewer seats actually filled and thus fewer people making ancilliary purchases (overpriced food and drinks). As the crowd also contributes to the value of the product (you don't go to games to experience the fabulous plastic seats) the actual value of the product is diminished. Every single person and business affected by the scalper's behaviour is disadvantaged.

It is the embodiment of 'market failure' and one of the few areas where even the most rigid of free-market flag-wavers will sternly bring out the red tape for fear of, you know, total collapse of the system, or at the least riots.
