Announced just then - Heard via SEN. Will look to get back this year if we go deep, but looks to be then end after...

Vince to retire at season's end

Edited by Grapeviney

Came to us when we were a rabble and nobody wanted us. Thanks for your services Bernie, wise decision also. Got the most out of himself.

All the best Bernie.

And thanks for being a Dee, and helping us back up.

Luvs ya work BV.

Wonderful contribution. Worth remembering that ultimately it was injury that caused his retirement and no one could permanently displace him from the senior side.

Hope he continues at Casey for next year assuming team balance lends itself to his inclusion.

100 games, club best and fairest and one of those guys who are invaluable around the club when things aren’t going your way. Good on you Bernie.

I think he was shattered at first when he got wind of the deal to offload him by the Crows five seasons ago, but he quickly got over his disappointment at moving states (hanging out with a social livewire in Wattsy helped) and turned the move into a positive that has extended to his new real estate career.

He also has been humble enough to still cop demotion to the backline and then demotion from the team and kept smiling through it all. Rapt that he got to play 100 games for us and also won a best-and-fairest. Let's hope we make it to the prelim so that he can go out with a flag for Casey.

Good with media, good with fans and a good bloke.

Loved the mongrel he brought and his cheeky grin

He must have been a great team mate you would think and his versatility was valued

From a team development perspective his retirement is timely

Thanks Bernie for all your efforts. The day we hold up the cup he deserves to be in the rooms with the boys to celebrate!

Well loved by everyone who knows him, and with good reason.

We owe him big time for coming to us when we were such a joke of a team. Plenty of others said no.

All the best Bernie. You deserve to have a great retirement bloke.

The extra salary cap room might also be helpful this trade period........

The exact type of bloke you want in your football club.

Didn't really want to come to us, but was very serviceable and provided a much needed laugh and leadership through a tough time of footy. Great appointment by Roos and no doubt our great culture we have now can be reflected with what Bernie brought.

Onya Berns.

One of my favourite ever Demons. I love Bernie.

My 5 year old son will be devastated. He loves Bernie too. Not quite sure how I'm going to break this news to him.

Will never forget the game against Adelaide at Adelaide Oval when he smashed Dangerfield into submission. Was a monumental win for the club, a turning point almost.

Also his shirt front on Dale Thomas against Carlton this season was beautiful.

All the best Bernie, you will be missed.

Thanks Bernie. I hope you get to play one more game.

Forever welcome at the MFC.

You helped repair pride and respect into a club that was very badly battered and bruised

Thanks ?

A true demon. Bucked the trend when other clubs senior players wouldn't come and play for us. Bernie got his marching orders from radelaide and became a very important player for us.

He will he missed!

Now send him out to stud and sign his kids up in 18 years.

Was one of the few established players that came to us during the darkest of days.

Set the standard for the younger guys today.

Thanks Bernie!

Been a great player at both clubs. Also a huge influence in us going from being a joke to a serious football team.

Thanks Bern.

Spoke at the pre-match luncheon I attended on Sunday and was brilliant. Never took himself too seriously albeit gave his all on-field.

I go the impression from his interview on SEN yesterday that his end as a player was on the cards.

Thanks Bernie, and all the best for the future.

What a legend, it's a massive shame that he didn't get to play finals for us.

Some of his performances were as good as any Melbourne player in the last 30 years.

I'll always remember his goal from 50, on his left against Geelong in 2015.

Such a shame it is likely he doesn’t get to play finals with us

We must keep winning....Yesterday on radio he said 3-4 weeks...

On ya Bernie!

Good to hear the club will offer him a potential off field role next year as they're keen on having him stick around the club.

Well done Bernie! You are one of my favourites.

Let's hope you haven't played your last game and you get to lift the cup!

While I have had a man crush on Bernard for a while now, it's not in the same league as the crush I have on his sister.

Can hopefully now enjoy a few beers in the crowd as we go deep into the finals.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
