SFebes 4,884 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Came to us when we were a rabble and nobody wanted us. Thanks for your services Bernie, wise decision also. Got the most out of himself. 31 3 1 Quote
DV8 2,271 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 All the best Bernie. And thanks for being a Dee, and helping us back up. Luvs ya work BV. 1 Quote
Diamond_Jim 12,778 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Wonderful contribution. Worth remembering that ultimately it was injury that caused his retirement and no one could permanently displace him from the senior side. Hope he continues at Casey for next year assuming team balance lends itself to his inclusion. 1 Quote
FarNorthernD 5,863 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 (edited) 100 games, club best and fairest and one of those guys who are invaluable around the club when things aren’t going your way. Good on you Bernie. Edited August 30, 2018 by FarNorthernD 8 1 Quote
Deespicable 2,886 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 I think he was shattered at first when he got wind of the deal to offload him by the Crows five seasons ago, but he quickly got over his disappointment at moving states (hanging out with a social livewire in Wattsy helped) and turned the move into a positive that has extended to his new real estate career. He also has been humble enough to still cop demotion to the backline and then demotion from the team and kept smiling through it all. Rapt that he got to play 100 games for us and also won a best-and-fairest. Let's hope we make it to the prelim so that he can go out with a flag for Casey. Good with media, good with fans and a good bloke. 9 Quote
dino rover 714 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Loved the mongrel he brought and his cheeky grin He must have been a great team mate you would think and his versatility was valued From a team development perspective his retirement is timely 3 Quote
DistrACTION Jackson 10,753 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Thanks Bernie for all your efforts. The day we hold up the cup he deserves to be in the rooms with the boys to celebrate! 3 Quote
ding 5,126 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 (edited) Well loved by everyone who knows him, and with good reason. We owe him big time for coming to us when we were such a joke of a team. Plenty of others said no. All the best Bernie. You deserve to have a great retirement bloke. The extra salary cap room might also be helpful this trade period........ Demon_JB 1,389 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 The exact type of bloke you want in your football club. Didn't really want to come to us, but was very serviceable and provided a much needed laugh and leadership through a tough time of footy. Great appointment by Roos and no doubt our great culture we have now can be reflected with what Bernie brought. Onya Berns. 2 Quote
Ron Burgundy 8,588 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 One of my favourite ever Demons. I love Bernie. My 5 year old son will be devastated. He loves Bernie too. Not quite sure how I'm going to break this news to him. 7 Quote
Mondê 525 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Will never forget the game against Adelaide at Adelaide Oval when he smashed Dangerfield into submission. Was a monumental win for the club, a turning point almost. Also his shirt front on Dale Thomas against Carlton this season was beautiful. All the best Bernie, you will be missed. 15 1 Quote
Sir Why You Little 37,474 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Thanks Bernie. I hope you get to play one more game. Forever welcome at the MFC. You helped repair pride and respect into a club that was very badly battered and bruised Thanks ? 8 1 Quote
Adzman 2,154 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 A true demon. Bucked the trend when other clubs senior players wouldn't come and play for us. Bernie got his marching orders from radelaide and became a very important player for us. He will he missed! Now send him out to stud and sign his kids up in 18 years. 1 4 Quote
DSP 1,488 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Was one of the few established players that came to us during the darkest of days. Set the standard for the younger guys today. Thanks Bernie! 1 Quote
whatwhat say what 23,880 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Such a shame it is likely he doesn’t get to play finals with us 3 Quote
Clintosaurus 7,953 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Been a great player at both clubs. Also a huge influence in us going from being a joke to a serious football team. Thanks Bern. 2 Quote
M_9 2,216 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 (edited) Spoke at the pre-match luncheon I attended on Sunday and was brilliant. Never took himself too seriously albeit gave his all on-field. I go the impression from his interview on SEN yesterday that his end as a player was on the cards. Thanks Bernie, and all the best for the future. Edited August 30, 2018 by M_9 3 Quote
Straight Sets Simon 23,113 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 (edited) What a legend, it's a massive shame that he didn't get to play finals for us. Some of his performances were as good as any Melbourne player in the last 30 years. I'll always remember his goal from 50, on his left against Geelong in 2015. dazzledavey36 56,367 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 On ya Bernie! Good to hear the club will offer him a potential off field role next year as they're keen on having him stick around the club. 12 1 Quote
Fat Tony 5,337 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Well done Bernie! You are one of my favourites. Let's hope you haven't played your last game and you get to lift the cup! 1 Quote
Rod Grinter Riot Squad 5,681 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Thanks Bernie. I hope, if you want, to see you stick around in a coaching role. Quote
The Chazz 4,077 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 While I have had a man crush on Bernard for a while now, it's not in the same league as the crush I have on his sister. 1 Quote
