The winner of (the loser of West Coast/Collingwood) vs (the winner of Sydney/GWS).

EDIT (Brackets for clarity).

DOUBLE-EDIT (Overexcited).

Rich/willy or box hill. Loser of tonite play box hill in the semi and the winner then plays us in the prelim

Oops. I'm so excited for finals (and all the permutations that go with it) that I didn't even care which thread I'm in.

Great win it's amazing what can happen when a few listed AFL players join the team.

What happened to McKenna?

Great to see Hannan play well must replace JKH for the Geelong game.

Maybe Hannan and Viney for Tyson and Kent?

Chook - one step ahead of yourself

I presume that Deemented was referring to VFL.

hannan just took moty

Anyone seen footage of Hannan’s mark?

Channel 7 showed a few highlights of the Port v Box Hill game during the Rich v Willy half time break and nothing from the Casey game.

@Drunkn167 Dec named BOG in the report on the Melbourne website. Great effort!

Probably shouldve held a few more marks but his defensive efforts, spoils and positioning behind the ball were a big reason the Cats weren't able to score today

Also from the man himself, Baker will be back for the Prelim Final in 2 weeks time!

Tyson is supposedly fine to play so it's JKH omitted for mine.

Got to hand it to Pedo. Keeps giving 100% and putting his hand up for senior selection. Would have to know his days on the MFC list are probably numbered. Not going to give up and leaves everything spent on the park. Kudos.

At present I would give him a contract for next year . Fills so many gaps

Go Casey............................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The same from me guys. It's a pleasure to roll through the thread and see how the game unfolded. Thanks for the update.

@Drunkn167 sounds like the best day down there mate.

Great to hear the whole squad was there for that obliteration.

Can't help but feel really excited for our club.

Crack in hard Demons!

Yep Pedo could play a circa 1995 Wayne Carey-like game and know he still isnt going to get a promotion. Very much like the way he gives his all for whoever he is playing with.

Same thing happened to me a while back. So now "puddy cats". Thanks Elmer Fudd.

It's a pity Casey have the week off now.

We lose some of the advantage for the Seniors of having the Twos in the Finals.

Hawthorn are lucky Box Hill came third. Now they can give players striving for firsts selection a go next week.

We can't.

At least it'll help the firsts if they get through to the GF.....fingers crossed.

Interesting... loved the shellacking yesterday but a similar thought did cross my mind and I see the Toiges lost last night.

I love the VFL but I am starting to wonder about its relevance heading forward. The fact that Viney didn't play when there was an opportunity to play him for 2-3 quarters adds weight to the question mark as to whether you could get much the same result from a training program with simulated match conditions. It's a lot of money being spent on the VFL teams without an absolutely clear understanding of their role.

It’s a risk vs reward set up. Viney is our captain, sure we could have played him but the fact that he could possibly have gone out and injured himself is not worth it? Plus he only just got out of the “rehab group” yesterday. I honestly don’t see how anyone would realistically see the benefit of him playing 2-3 quarters in a match. I think we were lucky to be able to put enough scoreboard damage and rest players who may be in contention for a spot. If the game came down to the wire no way Hannan and co would have been on the bench.

You don't reckon the most important thing for the Casey Demons in the finals now is winning, rather than being a half-a-game training opportunity for someone to get back to form and fitness? Not that Viney needs it either.

Not wishing JV any ill by any means, but say he did go out and play 2 or 3 quarters and come off sore, would that not be better for him and the club than doing the same next week in the one that really matters?

There is just so much that simulation can and can’t do.

And I presume foot soreness is the potential injury that Mad-Melbourne was referring to, since that thug Wojxyzinski isn’t playing and more.

Nothing about a player hitting him, but removing all doubt of any sort of match related injury. I mean training can cause ACLs but significantly more ACL injuries occur during matches. Motivating risks associated with any other injury. In terms of flaring up of his foot again, I would assume ball training and running training with the team would provide the best test rather than a match where he might kick it 16-20 times.

It is taking so-called political correctness to an absurd level. Even my wife uses the term pussycats when she refers to our two cats and she is a fundamentalist feminist.

Is there a need to hold players over though? For example, Mitch Hannan could gain approval to play this week from the AFL because he didn't play seniors in round 23. But will the club hold him over as he will only have a 6 day break between games if he plays against Geelong??

Bloody good question.

I think I forgot to mention yesterday that one of the main reasons Casey were playing so well was there unrelenting pressure around the ball, the best I've seen all year. It was very similar to the AFL boys level of pressure when they are playing well. If the Senior boys can bring that same intensity this final series, geez I can easily see both the VFL and AFL going deep into September.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
