I’m loving the man-love on VB! He was a bull in a china store today, smashed everything ?

Spargo really showed his worth for mine today especially in the second half. I know he’s probably feeling it but he’d be pretty stiff to get droppped based on today.

Agree had at least 4 goal assists and got the ball out of heavy track a number of times. This kid just runs and runs so the extra week will do him good. Reckon he has earned a spot in our first final.

No disrespect to the names below but Jeez we have come a long way since 2013...

Tyson having surgery tonight, out for 3 weeks according to Channel 7.

It's so bizarre that it's 26 August and we're talking about a three week injury rather than whether someone will be ready in time for the pre-season. It's a strange feeling that I'm willing to get used to.

I can't see why we'd tinker tooĀ much with the team. If there had been no injuries, Viney would have come in, possibly for one of Kent or Spargo. Given the injuries, it seems logical that Hannan is the other one to come in, if he's fit. Although, J Smith might be an option instead of Hannan with Fritsch moving up to the wing.

And I think Kennedy-Harris will likely remain. I thought he was an important player today and after a long time finally looks like he's caught up to the pace of the game.

The frustrating thing is that he was probably on an upward trajectory in the AFL team before the Weagles match but still not hitting top form, got dropped, and then was so bad at Casey that he wasn't in the frame for selection v GWS.

That’s smacks of bad attitude on his behalf, not the kind of person Goodwin will select unless injury forces his hand.

Geez it's nice to have a team of warriors. Everywhere you look there is hard, tough, uncompromising men. There is no boys out there. I was worried we were going to sub consciously go a bit softer and be worried about injury before our first final in 12 years, it clearly isn't in their makeup. Hopefully Kent gets a contract purely for not taking a backwards step, of all people considering his contract status and sub par year, didn't hesitate.

The amazing return of AVB just shows what Goodwin wants, beast's. Nearly every player loves a contest.

AVB, Oliver, Jetta, Jones, Brayshaw, Harmes, O & T Mac, Melksham, Hibberd, Spargo, Gawn, the list goes on.

Look out when Viney gets back.

I love Jeffy but he just doesn't fit the mould.

This list has been built for finals, there will be no fairytale, they will earn every bit of respect through blood sweat and tears, it is unfolding right before our eyes.

Nathan Jones will leave a legacy that will see this club stand as warriors for decades to come.

When JV gets back I hope they don't have he and Oliver on the ball at the same time.

They can get in each others way what a quandary to have. What a plethora of midfield riches we have.Ā Yesterdays game showed that a team of hard contestants will beat a team of quality primadonnasĀ  everytime. Kent is out though. Ā So Spargo stays and Hannan replaces Kent

Out: Kent (inj) Tyson (inj) JKH

In: Garlett, Viney & Hannan

JKH stays in. He was good yesterday. I can’t see Garlett playing for the MFC again. The other 2 changes mentioned above should be the only changes.Ā

The Casey game is 2:10pm on the Saturday at Casey. (Present weather predictions 14 max... rain to 4mm and winds to 40kph)

Would you play Viney, Hannan etc given it is then a six day break to the first AFL final.

Richmond are speaking of playing one or two of their players for a half.

Quite serendipitous that our VFL match is against Geelong

Going by what Goodwin said in his presser theĀ players will have a few days off and by next weekend will have aĀ big training session. Almost like game style training session so they won’t miss much match conditioning. Expect Viney and Hannan to be heavily involved in that.

Hibberd in front of Hawkins will be more important

Both will be important. Frost played very well against the Greatest Waste of Space.

Assuming they pass fitness tests, there are three key ins for the Cats clash.

1) Viney - the skipper has been preparing for his date with Joel Selwood for over a month now and barring a hiccup it will happen.

2) Hannan - we all saw what he brings against the Eagles. Could he be Mr September, rather than Trac. Sounds like he will have to be nursed all the way through though.

3) Joel Smith - provides pace down back and gives us the flexibility of having a third tall option. Geelong is a tall side and Stanley and Sav, along with Taylor may all play, although I suspect Taylor will play on Weid. Frosty get TomaHawk, OMac gets Sav or Taylor and Joel Smith ensures we are not caught short via rotations down back and can pick up Danger when he rests up forward, assuming Jetta goes to Menzel. If they send Henry forward, he's the perfect match-up for him as well. We also need Smith in because he gives us options if things go wrong or we have injuries. He also is a right-footer and in a side that already has three down back,Ā he's a better fit than a fourth leftie in Bayley.

Two of three outs have already been decided - Kent and Tyson.Ā

The third is between three players and all are hard calls but one will have to be made.

JKH - The most likely switch, but he was very impressive against GWS and will stay in if one of our three back from injury doesn't come up in time.

Charlie Spargo - Our little Ricky Jackson dynamo was at his creative best against GWS and would be very stiff to miss and given he's our best forward crumber, I'd be surprised if he cops the bullet.

Bayley Fritsch - In terms of structure, Smith gives us a genuine third tall defender and that means Bayley goes back to wing/forward. Then it's a battle with JKH to decide who gets Dom's spot on the wing. It's a lineball, but having a right/left combo with Vanders is probably the key to him winning out over JKH.

B: Jetta (Menz) Frost (Hawkins) Hibberd (Henry/Taylor)

HB: Salem (Narkle/Jones) OMac (Esava) Lewis (Duncan)

Centre: Vanders (Kelly) Harmes (Danger) Fritsch (Menegola)

HF: Petracca (Koladazwhatever) Weid (Taylor) ANB (Tuohy)

F: Melksham (Stewart) T.Mac (Henderson) Jones (Bews)

Ru: Gawn (Stanley) Brayshaw (Ablett) Viney (J.Selwood)

Int: Oliver (start off to bugger up Scott Selwood tag and fire him up) Spargo J.Smith Hannan

Probably correct, just a little concerned at this point about Fritsch on the backline not the fwd line, and JKH who played well against the GWS team (particularly tackling) being near there, too. For me, and it is an interim thought, JKH would be better on the backline against the Catty Puts from the bench to the backline and midline wings, roving and linking to aid his defensive pressure. I'd consider that JKH could contribute more to 'the Team' in such a role than Spargo at this point of the season, with Hannan and Fritsch fwd. The southern flank along the whole length of the ground must be utilised this game - far more than ever before - as was done by the Swans against us - providing a linkage up and down the ground for the smaller and more mobile runners. Space is enormous for our game style so I am hoping that we do not choke the northern flank against the Catty Puts who will outmark and provide clearances far more readily than we can. I'd consider this strategy to force Selwood and Dangerfield to run all day attempting to catch up and intercept rather than play their preferred tight crush where frees abound for them. A few random thoughts, again, but not concrete opinions for game day.Ā

Really like the options provided on the bench - particularly J, Smith. I'd rest Spargo I think. Jones could be lethal in the fwd pkt.

I really hope Smith gets up for the Casey game this week and does enough to come into contention for the senior team. He would release Fritsch from the backline, and put him back to wing / HFF where he has played his best football. JKH was okay yesterday, but it is an easy choice to make the switch.Ā

If Tyson is fit, he definitely plays - probably for Spargo, who was also okay yesterday, but is next in line. If not Spargo, then perhaps Vandenberg.

In: Viney, Hannan, J.Smith

Out: Tyson (inj), Kent (inj), Kennedy-Harris

As an aside, I'm not sure that Kent has a future as an AFL footballer. He hasn't made it through three AFL matches in a row for two years now. Perhaps his body just isn't made to play the sport at the highest level.

Can drop VDB. I thought he was epic. I did miss Q3 though walking the dog

Only forced changes.

My God is someone suggesting Vandenberg may go out.

Crazy.

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's Ā six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.Ā
