I'm sure they don't realize that he isn't the right guy as the corresponding thread on Demonland has made abundantly clear.

Is he the right guy though?

It would be a fitting reward for making finals if his contract is extended before the off-season starts ie October

However, I can see that the new CEO may want to have a say so in the off-season makes sense.

What ... you don't trust the old one?

Not happy Jan.

Why bring it up now when we need to stay absolutely focused on the next month?

There will be many here in a tizz. It's an obvious decision, in fact the club would be crazy not to extend. Two more years beyond 2019 makes perfect sense

I'm saying the exact opposite.  In fact, I said before October ie while Jackson is still CEO.

The line you quote refers to my experience where an outgoing CEO is rarely involved in major decisions post his tenure (eg as we saw with Jackson's replacement).

It will be a Board decision and they will re contract Goodwin.  The sooner the better.

However, the Board will give the new CEO the courtesy and the opportunity to set terms and conditions, KPI's etc. as he (the new CEO) will be held responsible for all of club performance.

In fact it would be irresponsible and poor governance if the Board were to negotiate a contract with any key staff without the new CEO being involved.

In total agreement and, for what its worth, i cannot think of anyone better in the AFL Coaching sphere.

Let's give Goody 3 more years and be done with it !! All those in favour say aye.

Those mfcss will be spewing they want to change the coach just so they can be happy in their misery, every coach should be given 5 years  minimum to see how far they can take their team, unless they are totally useless, he is already a better coach then Richardson who has the worst coaching record in history after 100 games, and the saints have been in the bottom 4 more then any side since 1896.

Goodwin is the right man  and you stick to the person that has helped us make the finals. He was a professional when he was playing and it  has carried onto our club. SO good on ya Goody you deserve a long extension as you have earned it.

We can afford to wait so we should wait. There is nothing wrong with a good dose of patience. It seems frowned upon in this day and age, but here is an idea, let's just see how we perform next year before re-signing Goodwin.

Yes not sure why the club decided to extend his contract now when we can wait another year. Or at least wait until the end of finals.

Simon Goodwin set to sign contract extension after helping break Demons’ finals drought

He could be enhanced with the experience and comms of Lewis as a 2IC of coaching in 2019.

25-18 record in his first 43 games of coaching and the MFC's first finals appearance in 12 years.

We have found our man,   make no mistake.

Some people will complain about anything, seriously.

In these days of free agency and players nominating new clubs whenever they please, we haven't lost a single player since Goody took over. That says it all.

For the same reasons you try and resign players, Keep the other clubs at bay.

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.
