I’ve watched the replay 3 times and still can’t comprehend how we were awarded frees, or at least not penalized for many blatant errors, despite the howls of abuse throughout the game from an overwhelmingly anti Melbourne crowd.

The non payment of a free kick against O.Mac ,when he took on the tackler by dropping his head into an oncoming chest, was just one of  many mind boggling decisions surprisingly in our favour.

In my conspiracy theory, the AFL contrived a feel good story ending

I won't write what I really want to in response to your post so I will just say you must be a very silly boy. I doubt you are a demons supporter from memory I recall similar posts in the past.

Thanks Ethan, providing actual stats like that proves it must be true. But seriously can you imagine the AFL keeping anything a secret?

I just don’t understand why a Melbourne supporter would go so far out of their way to attempt to rain on our own parade with this first level rubbish.

I can, but none of the reasons would be flattering. Thetrouble with these sort of facile posts is that they grow legs and multiply, asI am demonstrating.

My point exactly.. and that’s what’s mind boggling considering what’s preceded it

Mindless attention seeking by OP.  Best ignored.

Yep, and that’s why I’ve submitted my 3 word analyses every week for 5 years?

From an overall perspective,  we've never actually been disadvantaged by umpires anyway.  Most would disagree but most have been brainwashed into believing that the umpires have got a set against us.  Ditto for every other club and their supporters.

The sport can't be umpired correctly and it is daylight to the next hardest sport in terms of the adjudication.

So it stands to reason that the umpires are going to make a stack of errors and an equal proportion of those incorrect decisions are going to be awarded against all the teams.  Over time.

So comes to terms with it all, lose the persecution complex and stop playing victim.  That attitude is all based on a mistruth anyway.

From a statistical standpoint, West Coast’s free kick advantage over the last 15 years falls waaaay outside the standard bell curve. The simple, uncomfortable truth for the AFL (which Sunday’s game proved as the exception to the rule) is that WC get and are expected to get, a free ride. Though they were still advantaged on Sunday 18-14, we can only hope it’s the start of something.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

There is one team in the entire league that gets an unbelievable ride from the umpires.

Over the last 13 years all teams have experienced a positive and negative free kick differential over time. There is only one team in the entire league to have had 13 years of positive free kick differentials. THATS NOT RANDOM. or calling free kicks as you see it without influence.

13 years straight.

Back in the days of Cameron Bruce and Brad Green we flew to Perth and the free kick count late in the second was 23 to 1.

So my god !! if we got the rub of the green for one single game it was long long long overdue.

In all honesty 'joeboy', I think the AFL put in a senior panel that was less inclined to be influenced by the home crowd.

A smart move as it was an important game for both clubs as well as shaping the 8.

The decisions you talk about could easily have gone against us but there were many others that could have gone our way.

The crowd were angry at the performance of their 23rd man though, they didn't get a clear run at it.

Rigged? no... but I think it was either a smart move or luck that the AFL seemed to address the home town decisions with the selection of the umpires.

My problem with the opening post is why the AFL might think Melbourne winning is a "feel good" story. I would have thought if the AFL wanted "feel good" they would have wanted a South Australian team to make the 8. For that to happen, Melbourne losing would have been, if not the easiest way, certainly an option. So, if I can't find the motivation for the AFL, the rest of the OP fails the logic test.

I'm with joeboy here

What convinces me is the umpire making calls from the grassy knoll at optus stadium.

The umpires were drinking fluorodised water which messed with their precious bodily fluids.

The footage looks real but with cgi etc could be done in a studio?

Cmon man we're in the finals and earned our place: time to get over our "fear of success" with a bunch of way out theories as to why we don't deserve it!

Never bothered to read it, but you still started a crappy thread.

I guess the umpire who gifted the free against Vanders for competing for the ball forgot which team he was meant to be rigging the game for...

The final free kick count was 18-14 to the Eagles btw.

Many bitter Eagles fans would agree with you OP.  At least you’ve got that going for you.

err it was 15 to 8 after 1/4 time....

Home town decisiions are going to happen as well although I would agree that the Coasters seem to get a bit if a better ride. But I have come to terms with that as well.

The key is to finish above them on the ladder so any final against the Coasters is played here.

Good to see the umpires not sucked in by the crowd for a change. The crowd sensed this and the booing became even louder as they tried to force home town decisions. The psychology worked against them this time. We had a few go our way but so did a few more go their way but they were playing catch up footy and the crowd were frustrated.

This was the sentiment of every WCE supporter at the ground, particularly some of the morons around me.

I'm so  accustomed to being outraged at the adjudication, that when we get a fair run, like last Sunday, I actually feel guilty.

It happened on QB 2017, when we seemed to get a charmed run, and I felt guilty( but happy) after beating the Pies.

The "snot-green maggots"* more than made up for it in round 23 2017.

(*I liked this description  from a previous poster!   I've forgotten who it was.)

WC don’t SEEM to get a better ride, it’s an objective truth that they DO get a better ride. In this case, stats don’t lie. It’s a problem that the AFL has singularly failed to address, and for all its excellent equalisation measures, still unbalances the competition, week to week. I guess it’s why he made the OP, but for joeboy to suggest a 4 free kick deficit represents a ‘rigging’ in our favour, it’s not just ridiculous attention-seeking, it’s illogical.

Now that's very interesting - do you have data upon which this is based?

I’m not sure what you’re saying here. Are you saying I’m wrong about the final free kick count? Both the AFL app and footywire says 18-14 to the Eagles.

As always , it’s not the number that are paid but where and under what circumstances they’re given
