Freo have brought back Nate Fyfe and selected a strong team to play Geelong.  Kudos to Ross the Boss for not tanking.

Would be brilliant if they went down to that dump and ended the Cats finals chances.

I just want to see the anger on Chris Scott’s face. In fact it’d be almost better than a Dees win. If there is one overrated coach in the AFL its him, inherited a premiership side, topped up every year trying to win another, tried to buy a flag with Dangerflog and now they’re scraping the 8 with an A grade midfield and their best player is 34. They’re in serious trouble in the next few years, Ablett, Danger, Selwood, Taylor and probably Hawkins gone and no kids coming through. Apart from Henry, their list is a shambles.

To maximise our chances to stay in the 8 we need these results:

  • Rich to defeat Ess.
  • Pies to defeat Port.
  • Freo to defeat Cats
  • Crows to defeat North

That will knock Ess, North and Cats out as our competitors as they will be one game and big % behind us guaranteeing us a spot in the 8, regardless of whether we win another game!

So time to barrack for the underdogs, folks!

Bit of spice/petrol added to the 'Q-Clash' this year!

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-08-16/lion-slams-soft-suns-ahead-of-qclash

BRISBANE defender Nick Robertson has lit the QClash fuse, labelling Gold Coast "soft" ahead of their match at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.

"I'm looking forward to getting stuck into them on the weekend and so are all the other boys," Robertson said.

"I reckon they're soft to be completely honest so I'm looking forward to getting into them.

"It's just the rivalry. They reckon they're the team in Queensland and so do we."

When pressed further on his comments, Robertson didn't back down.

"I think they take a bit of a backward step when blokes go hard at the footy," he said.

"I hope they hear that too."

Sounds more like the promotion for boxing than AFL.  It's very unusual to hear in this competition and brings back memories of 'bruise-free football' a few years back.  It could be seen as disrespectful or just some gamesmanship but I can't imagine Chris Fagan being happy with the opposition being handed a little extra motivation...

It’s all for show but I like it. Better than the company line that’s normally toed out.

Or we could play 4th placed Russian roulette in the event of our slim chances of a win over WCE. So this week you hope for a Port win over the Pies & A GWS win over Sydney. Next week: Sydney win over Hawthorn & WCE win over Brisbane. This means GWS are immoveably locked in 3rd pre-r23 and a win gets us 4th.

Optional improbable extra: St K d Haw this week &  Freo d Coll next week. Those upsets would also clear up the way for 4th (making Port d Coll & Syd d Haw unnecessary)

*We can also get 3rd if GWS lose 0/2 and Haw, Syd & Coll all lose 1/2

Agree, but of course none of that matters if we win, as none of those clubs (other than Port) will be able to pass us (unless Geelong win both their games by 120 points).

But yes, if we lose, we really, really need Richmond, Collingwood and Adelaide to win.

Would be nice for someone else to pull a Melbourne and lose a stupid game they shouldn't. Ultimately I'm just focused on us, I just want us to win at least one of these games to make the 8 on our merit.

Yes that is all very nice but it won't happen. You see the last round has to be nail biting. Unfortunatly.

druggies over Richmond.

Port over the filth.

Cats over Freo.

North over crows.

Now if only we can buck the trend. Lets hope.

Freo has a reasonable record and really should have won down there last year. Geelong are flakey, question is are they flakey enough to fall over MFC style in a game that matters like this?

Something terrible has happened to the fitness staff at Richmond.  Suddenly all those injuries.

does it really matter if Essendon beat the tigers?  means we are relying on getting in with 12 wins, it wont happen.  Cats and North will win their 2 games so 13 wins is required.

They're just resting their stars for these dead rubbers.

They'll be full strength for their first qualifying final against Collingwood or Hawthorn.

nt kid who is now at melbourne grammar

how we miss out on developing him beggars belief

The kid probably lives in the Saints NGA zone.  http://www.afl.com.au/news/game-development/nab-afl-rising-star-program/nga-clubacademies

Our chance was if he was originally in our NT NGA zone.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
