Great...I can hear the sigh of relief in the demon camp, the players thinking it will be a walk in the park, ala St Kilda and they all forget to turn up.

Yes, a bit of MFCSS on my part but it is just so Melbourne to repeat the (lack of StKilda) effort and not be switched on.

They will probably have McCrae back who is in Brownlow form and very damaging.

We must bring our A game and not let up.

I want us to bring our A game and smash them into the ground. No mercy.

I’d like to see Kent replace Stretch, more speedy than Stretch but unsure if two games back in the VFL is enough for a recall.

Good choice

Petty is a first year 18 year old key back. Baker is an outside player who is 3 years older. Hard to compare the two.

18 months older, to be accurate

FWIW ...

Shame about Stretch. Idealy need to replace him with someone with pace.

JKH, not fast enough, no tricks. His papers are marked.

Tyson, see JKH.

Kent, needs a few more games under his belt. If he was fit he would definitely be in.

Bugg. No thanks.

Baker, a possibility.

Hunt would be a definite inclusion if fit.

I digress. There have been comments about ANB's goal kicking, and referencing his stats - 18.12? Damn lies and statistics. How many of his goals were junk time goals, and/or goals in  thrashings, particularly when the game was already won? And how many of his points were momentum killers at crucial times?

I have a feeling JKH is going to get a recall for Stretch, but big question marks about whether he can translate it into AFL.

Tyson seems to be in that state of flux between AFL and VFL. He can still perform at AFL level but others have gone past him on the pecking order. I know Roos rates him quite highly.

I also won't be surprised if we rest another for player management after the Darwin trip.

JKH was awesome for Casey last week and has a solid block of form behind him. Deserves a spot.

I think 3 chook...  following Darwin.

Stretch Inj: - Baker.

Lewis Rested: - Vince

....  possibly Spargo for JKH ?

Anyone with a spare quid give Dan Watts at the MFC a call he'll give you a $200 ticket in the $30.000 draw

How much of a difference is there between Spargo and Baker in terms of not being ready?

I think its more a difference between the type of player. Spargo is more a natural footballer and knows where to position himself with good decision making, he is a better contested ball winner and has a more developed defensive side to his game. Oscar is much more raw and needs to work on a lot of the strengths of Spargo's that I just mentioned.

I really doubt/hope Baker doesn't play this week.

I think it will be Tyson for Stretch

We usually reward solid form in the VFL so it will either be Tyson or the former US president in this week for Stretch.

Just an idea but I'd like Lewis rested for this game, possibly even Jetta. They don't have a great set of small forwards with most of their goals of late coming from either their talls in Gowers, Schache or Boyd or from mids drifting forward (Hunter, Bont, Wallis etc.) so I don't see a real match up for Jets, so might be worth refreshing him this week and having him fresh for the run home.

I'd then see how Jones goes full time off the back half for a game (he takes Lewis spot), mainly because I think he'll had the good composure but also because I can see him heading there in the next couple of years. I'd then have Vince come in and play Jets role closure to goal and permanent back (not much run forward). Tyson to replace Jones in the middle and be given a week where he just plays his natural role, not trying to send him to the outside as much. Baker in to replace Strech's run and carry and to offer the speed we'll lose.

In: Vince, Tyson and Baker

Out: Stretch (inj),Lewis and Jetta (rested)

JKH has had his chances, plenty of them. Ditto Tyson.

Both are neither up to snuff in AFL.

Would love to see Baker out there.

RE ANB

SNAP! Exactly right, stats do tell lies sometimes and he isn't alone either. Simply there is no excuse for any AFL Standard player to miss from almost point blank 20-25 Metres out NONE!

That's what most said about Frost when we brought Petty in. Look how that worked out.

I'm not against Baker playing, but I think with 7 weeks to go we add players with more AFL experience to the side.

Let alone twice in the one game and one of those was about 15 meters directly in front.

ANB is frustrating but he has kicked 18 goals, our third most after Hogan and T Mac.

He will probably end up with 25-30 goals which would be a great return.  With our lack of outside runners we need him in the team.

I know the humour of this...yet it's a salient point. Were it not for Max's other outstanding abilities...

Max shouldn't miss the sitters. No one should.

Imho the problem with JKH is the ability to translate good VFL form into AFL .

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
