You do realise that a young team that hasn't played finals in 12 years isn't going to play to their best every round ?

In fact, no 2018 team.

I mean, you do realise that, right ?

Nice duck there

Team somewhat consistent :

good against weaker teams

struggle against better teams/coaching

You do realise my friend that we have lost the last 2 with the inclusions as specified. And ex of Lever and possibly Garlett we have our best side in?

“My friend” now that’s harsh. How often we use it as a put down or a masculine way of asserting ourselves. In short, you are not my friend d....head. How DL, but strangely we still barrack for the same team. It does not sound so bad if you say “my Demon Friend”  Perhaps it would be more polite to say to Pro Dee, “with the greatest respect my Demon friend your learned colleague thinks that you are full of yourself and talk complete BS. You don’t find the fairer sex using this term. Perhaps B....face I will tear your hair out.

Yep Condensation is just...... well full of hot air on cold permafrost.

Ok I'll call it.

We are not that great! We are not yet up to the mindfulness and true inner belief that we can roll better sides.

Yep Bully boys we are and until such time, the media and wider discerning footy world will rightly judge us as so!

So Pro Dee That's my take!

We haven't proven anything yet.

You've proven plenty.

but the past is not totally irrelevant, why, because onfield we still have the same problem - Stage Fright. Which is why this thread began.

Seriously are you that naive. It has nothing to do with the past.

Ffs they are creating a new culture and for the 100th time like happened with Brisbane, Geelong and the great Hawks sides of this century you will not see genuine consistency in this group until the large bulk of the playing group 15 to 20 players average around the 100+game mark.

As pro dee has tried to tell you the current culture was started by Roos and Jackson. Vince, Cross and Lewis brought the good habits and the professional approach to get the best out of yourself and Viney, Lever Brayshaw and Oliver will pass that on.

Yes i know all that.

But we have always had stage fright, that is my point. It has always existed.

New personel have come through, and had no luck. John Northey almost cracked it.

But it haunted Neil Balme and Neale Danniher. The rollercoaster.

I hope Goodwin can do it. I really do, but at this stage i haven’t seen much to get excited about, against the top sides over the past 3 years. We still drink bathwater and celebrate early. (The Jones Video last year was embarrassing)

ProDee can dismiss the past if he wishes, i don’t care

I BELIEVE that our past is still a burden even now, that is my opinion, and untill we beat good sides regularly it will continue to be a ball and chain  its why we only have 44,000 members after 160 years

Many people talk on here as if the last 4 years are the great revelation, way to early call.

I hope it turns around, but it is a long way from that yet.

It’s all between the ears now.

The hardest bit....

Oddly worded, because we definitely compete with the best, but as of yet, we haven't taken that next step of beating the best. But that comes with experience. Even last week's game was the perfect example of a lack of poise that comes with experience.

I think our biggest issue is leadership. Lewis is a decent leader, but Jones should not be a captain. He doesn't stand up when we compete against the best and we're really tested. Whereas, Viney is our Selwood and wills himself to contests and influences.

Once we iron out some inconsistencies and get good efforts from 16-18 players consistently, we'll be a top 4 side. Until then, we're a very good side on our day and a very ordinary side when we're off.

But can we compete with the best? Of course we can. I reckon we've got 6 wins in us for the remaining home and away season. That means knocking off at least one or two good sides.

I agree with your sentiment, leadership has always lacked in certain areas.

The club is just as bad as onfield, not taking Ollie Wines was criminal and is a major reason we have stalled to a point.

Like Viney, he is a beast and wills himself to compete harder as the game gets harder. Opportunity lost

Let's move on from that though, mate. Looking forward and ensuring we keep improving our processes is what will make this club great again. A lot of recruiting has gone on since the Wines trade and most of it very, very good.

Yes. But we missed a gun dirty midfielder, which is what this club has needed for as long as i can remember. It’s why after 4 years we are still waiting and some of us still hoping.

Both midfields in tonight’s game are miles ahead of the MFC sadly...

You get Ollie Wines and you don't get Clarrie simple.

It's like the Hawks take Judd over Hodge they don't bottom out and only get one of Roughie Franklin and Lewis.

It's time to forget the past

It comes down to the players. The coach can only do so much, it is up to the players to drive that culture change. The coach, CEO, president, Board, FD, supporters can create the environment but the players are ultimately responsible.

I am talking about the mechanics. WHY did the club baulk when a player like that is standing in front of them???

So many years as an extra, treading water has left this club lacking focus so often.

Agreed, and to this point i still don’t think our players drive themselves hard enough yet, for long enough

Sydney would have beaten us last night in the 2nd half. Richmond refused to lose, even with Rance being thrashed and a man down.

I think he the jury as they say is still out...i'm sitting with the jurors,if not one of them. We know only too well from experience theres a chasm of difference between a player having all of the required to be absolutely anything and actually attaining that. One does not guarantee the latter..

Yes time will be THE thing....  and TIME judge many to be a bust

Clearly because we had Viney going to us in the second round and we felt, at the time, we needed a different type of player to complement that.  History shows it was the wrong decision, but the Dogs overlooked him too.  Clubs can make wrong decisions.  We've made heaps of right ones recently, but I'm sure we'll get one wrong down the road.  That's life.

Not sure we will need to go down the road too far wiseblood. I reckon if you get 50% of early picks right you have done well. There is a big difference between under 18 football and the senior game. Add that some players develop physically earlier than others that alone gives them an advantage that quite often evaporates once they get to senior level.

That was more than a wrong decision. It was diabolical, in 2 ways. Not only did we snub Wines, who we chose in his place was completely inappropriate

Wines was BOG in his first game, against us. That is how bad the decision was.

We chose a different player alright, he couldn’t run.

Yes the place has improved, but we should be further down the track. The last 2 weeks have shown far more than the 6 weeks previous

So what?  It's meaningless.  It's such a meaningless thing that I have no idea why it matters so much to you.  Every club has made mistakes, both small and large, over time.  You are so caught up on nothing stuff that it's unfathomable.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
