Pressure got to us. As I said I knew 7 in a row against a hot opposition on such a big day was too much to ask. Just not handling the occasion right now.

Pretty much game over if they kick straight.

Still in this but I can’t see us winn8ng from here.

Jones/Viney should be at the umps this qtr time asking why they are allowed to throw and drop the ball. They have been horrible. in saying that, they would still be beating us. We are playing stupid football. Take a mark and handball to some one running 1 meter away and they guy on the mark just outs his hand out and smothers it.

Stupid football, getting smashed at clearances, being out run, our efficiency would be terrible, turnovers high, and Maxs dominance in the taps is useless if they take the ball away.

Hogan, Trac, Milkshake, Nibbler, Fritsch, Spargo have done nudda.

No chase, getting killed inside and out. Max getting smashed.

The umpires from the Dockers/Crows game flew over.

Hogan needs to stop playing for the whistle.

Melksham’s disposal cost us two.

Tackle to hurt, tackle so they can’t dispose of the bloody thing.

3 key forwards and we’re still bombing it inside 50.

Bad umpiring but collingwood is playing considerably better so it wouldn't matter. 5-6 goal better side atm. at least.

Collingwood starting to look spent at end of that quarter. They are throwing it all early but will burn out

Pies are the real deal unfortunately, us on the other hand we will find out in 30 minutes

Petracca trying to kick the cover off the ball again. A simple centre to Hogan goes 10m over his head. Tries the drilling ball a minute later and kicks it along the ground. Plays like a millionaire.

Credit to [censored] Buckley he is smashing us all over the ground. Goodwin has to wake up in the box.

Not a good start from us as the Pies were more switched on.  It's not too dissimilar to how we started against the Dogs.  That great run, drive and spread hasn't been there so far, but I believe we'll turn it around.  Glad to get to quarter time to reset.

Umps aren't helping though.  It's not so much that the Pies ones weren't there (a few were not), it's just that we've had some similar ones that haven't been paid.  I don't mind if the umps are shite, as long as they are consistent with it and 10-3 in the free kick count suggests they haven't been.

Would love us to close the gap now and go in at half time ready to run over the top of them in the second half.

27 tackles to 16 (for us).

It's a reflection of their early appetite for the contest.  We need to match it now.

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
