I'd prefer like for like. Hunt hasn't played up forward all season.

I reckon the impending weather conditions might have a say in this.

If Petty was going to play they would have done the video of him being told that they do for every debutant.

There's still time tomorrow afternoon.

I may be in the minority, but Joel Smith just doesn't impress me.

Of course he is no Lever, but still, he leaves me feeling underwhelmed.

True to say he hasn't been bashing down the door and I think that is why the final selection is still so open. Petty would be a bolter so I suppose it's between Smith and Hunt. Strange Wagner's not in the mix.

I'm actually not disappointed in that. Wagner, as hard as he tries, is very suspect with his disposal.

Wagner and Frost's futures are very uncertain can't get a game ahead of a couple of kids in Joel.Smith and Petty.

OUT - T Smith, Lever, Hannan

IN - Pedo, J Smith, Hunt

I can understand how you remain unimpressed. Most of us I suspect view Smith in terms of what he could be rather than what he currently is. Even the avid Casey watchers who would know his capabilities..

He's a young player with 3 games under his belt. At 22 he still has tons of time to deliver on his potential. If he gets first crack at replacing Lever, it might just be the making of him

Glad to see you're still here.  I didn't take your resignation from the site seriously due to a one point misdemeanor from moderators, but you never know. :)

Be in no doubt that Weideman is highly rated internally and will the future.

Thanks for the reminder

Interesting that Vince played Jenkins against Adelaide, who is obviously a tall, and beat him well. If he could take a similar in the Pies forward line it would allow us to play a medium sized defender to replace Lever e.g. Wagner

Lynch not Jenkins. Very different.

Gawn will need a chop out in the ruck so I assume Pedo is in. Would be so risky to ruck TMac with the foot drama.

Tell Pedo that !

Great to have Pedo onboard, ain't it? A big pack-splitter, a great mark these days, good for 2-3 goals a game, hungry for the game and wins to the MFC. A balanced inclusion making our fwd line terrifying for the Filth. Suspect a very big score this match, now. We have to have something to overcome the umpires' frees for the Filth inside the 50m - that will go on and on all game.

Are you in fact Cameron Pederson in disguise??

Don't think I've ever seen a bigger fan of anybody!!

FWIW I hope he gets in too and plays a blinder.

I think Hunt is more likely to come in than Jeffy for Hannan. Jayden offers more flexibility, can play at both ends of the ground if required and may well be needed to match up on a Collingwood small forward. We'll see.

That said, I think the most likely outcome is what many are saying and that's Pedersen for Smith and Smith for Lever. I think they'll start Smith as the interceptor, but will rotate between he and Hibberd.

Hunt can't play forward (yet). He even struggles on a wing.

Bringing him and Smith in means we're stuck with seven defenders, meaning Hunt or someone else is forced to play out of position.

No need to do that when we've got perfectly good like for like replacements.

Seems the forecast is pretty good tho atm. I hope so anyway especially for the Big Freeze and the crowds

Yeah BF, I am keen on him as a player because,  from the fence, I look into the players' minds before each stage of their activity and linkage to the rest of the team by whatever method options they might consider, or have as part of their arsenal, or have done, and in this regard, Pedo does it most comfortably well.

To me, Pedo does it all well for a bigger bloke at just on 194cm and represents one of our best targets when the going gets tough. Have always analysed footy players that way and in particular, just knew what Robbie, for example, was going to do and how he would do it. Almost the same for the Ox, Lyon, Stinger, Icke, Hughes, Alves, and so on but sometimes, pleasantly surprised by their actions and effectiveness. It is into this category that Clarrie resides, for example, in my scrutineer fantasies on footy.

With Pedo, while we have him before retirement or trade, my Demon buddies and I could not fathom why he was not used more regularly despite the nandy-pandy comments of those who bleat repeatedly with a frighteningly superior blend of wisdom and cant. The emphasis is always on cant and so, it all is of little stimulation in the football appreciation process.

Does anyone think Petty will debut on Monday? I’d be both surprised and excited to see the kid if he gets the nod. I’ve seen him once at Casey this year and was very impressed with his composure and skills.

My view is that Pedersen plays really well in his first game back from the VFL with diminishing returns thereafter until he is dropped again. It's also a bit of puffery to claim he's "good for 2-3 goals a game" when he's actually only kicked 69 goals in his 78 games.

We always play 7 defenders. Usually 2 talls (Oscar and Lever) and 5 running defenders (Jetta, Lewis, Vince, Hibberd and Salem).

I hope they avoid debuting Petty this week. From the reports it sounded like he had a poor week last week, and I rather a young guy coming in to be playing well. We might be flying but can't flirt with form against an in-form Collingwood

Sorry t_u, I don't intend to be obscure. Just being careful.

TMac pulled up extremely sore after the Dogs game and apparently been on "lighter duties" this week.

I think the club will take into consideration his form in general, not just one week.  From all reports his season as a whole has been really good, and he has some attributes that we need with Lever going down - he has good foot skills, reads the play very well and can take a grab.  He might still be a little undersized in terms of strength, but then Lever doesn't really go in to many one on ones and instead plays the third man up role, so I don't think that will hinder him too much.

Goody and the club have shown the ability to make the right decision more often than not, especially this season, so if they feel that Petty is the right man to go with them I'll be happy with that decision.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
