    cannot understand why we needed to drop four places in the second round this year.

    Marginal negotiation skills demonstrated again given we had the PSD card.

    Still better than giving away this years second that so many here were happy with

    Thought we’d keep 22 and use later round pick upgrades but I don’t hate this deal. Just think the extra value of pick 22 comes with teams looking to trade up on the 2nd night of the draft.

    win plenty of games next year and this will be a bargain

    4 places in the second round?  On the success rate of second round picks, our chances of landing a good player dropped from about 40% to about...40%.  Draft picks are a mugs currency

    Partially agree on the probabilities  but see no reason to give up the advantage.

    We desperately need to recruit some quality youngsters and we need every advantage we can get

    I happened to be listening to Nick Dal Santo on Trade Radio earlier this morning and he went through the picks from 15 onwards in all drafts from 2008-2016.

    Very few of them end up playing 100 games and forging reasonable careers. It was 1 in 5 or something along those lines.

    I think known quantities to fill specific needs is the ideal scenario, once outside the top 10-15

    We just have recruited 2 quality young players (Langers and Tomlinson) Diamond.

    I would much rather trade like this in that u know what u are getting than risk going through the draft especially with our track record.

    Yessssssss. Well done Mahoney and team.

    Unsure what the point of swapping around 22 and 26 is - that type of trade to me is such a trivial difference that it strikes me as pandering to the petty, but whatever gets it done. 

    Proof of @AshleyH30‘s point in the Frost thread - got to look at the complete picture rather than trades in isolation. No doubting we’ve improved our list in this period so far.

    it's actually slightly lower than one in five and near one in six who reach 100 games.

    Only one in three reach 50.

    AFL is a tough gig and is by no means a gravy train for the vast bulk of players

    So right now as we sit, we have,

    Pick 3, 26, 50 + Langdon and Tomlinson. 

    A great trade period so far from Mahoney.

    Spot on. The draft is always going to have an element of the unknown. With trading you know what you’ll get.

    I wonder how that decision gets made? Do you reckon it means we’re backing ourselves to finish higher than the Hawks, or am I reading too much into it?

    I think there’s more certainty in the Hawks one. They are likely to be a mid table team again, as they have been for a while now.

      Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

      It’s game day and the Demons are chasing a fourth straight win as we take on the high flying Hawks at the G. After decades of being tormented by the Hawks the Dees will be keen to extend their 7 year dominance over Hawthorn.

    • NON-MFC: Round 09

      Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
