I rate degoey, but we have no currency for a trade, unless of course we’re willing to trade out one of our equal or better young players.

That was my thought a couple of days ago DaG.  But on 2nd thoughts I don't know that he IS a DH.

He is possibly a fired up creative type with aggression... a little like a Toby Greene.

Every club needs a dynamo, like that.

My thinking has changed since a couple of weeks back, when he first hit the headlines.  We are too conservative by fault, too often.

We need to take more risks, to get to the top.

Pick 5 behind Petracca and Brayshaw in 2014, has just hit 50 games. We have no first round pick this year and cannot trade next years, so unless we're wiling to trade one of our own young guns (Trac, Oliver, Hogan, Brayshaw) then we cannot get him or Wines or anyone. On the basis, can't see it happening and prefer our youngsters to him.

Talking footy saying both North and the Saints prepared to pay him upwards of $800,000 a year, going to cost the Pies a lot more to keep him than a few weeks back. Much the same as our Tom.

Well aware Diamond Jim, also aware clubs just like Melbourne did with Lever go hard for players that they think will add value. Also think this will happen with Tom McDonald just waiting for the Herald Sun article saying a certain club has a five year five million dollar deal on the table for him, the source for the article will be Tom's manager.

He’s a good player but so far is being talked up and hasn’t done much

Was pick 5 the same year as Trac, Brayshaw, and Lever - I’d still take all of them over him

So would have Collingwood......

Interesting I know in our darkest hours  I was Pro [censored]! If I had been the head recruiting officer back then we would have Hurley over Watts, Dusty over Trenners, Darling over Cook! And we all agree on Wines and there are others. My mantra at the time was kids with talent but with a dose of aggro and we had the full selection of the best talented, mongrels available at that time. But we went for the nice kids, often with questionable talent.

Once Roos showed up he used the phrase competitive nature I think as a major indicator for draft selection. I believe competitive and aggro are similar traits. Thus we started picking out Bugg, Tracca, Oliver, Harmes, Hogan, then Vince, Lewis etc.

And given the management at the time yes we would have stuffed up and lost the talented [censored], if we had drafted them.

Many of  your greatest talents were one degree away from disaster, what the unauthorised [censored] up, the late night disco club punch up when you should not be there, etc. Think Matthews, Duck, Darling, Brereton, Hamel, Dipper etc. common in the 70’s.

North are desperate to catch anything. They have been fishing for so long, they don't care if they reel in seaweed.

Your right Earl.

The difference I think is, these types are gamblers/risk takers, which is what makes them above the others.  They'll have a red hot dip.

Think Lockett. rough cut gem. Gablett snr.

Te Robbie Flowers are extremely rare. and we very nearly rejected him.

Our supporters IMO have reduced down to almost all, of similar cut jibs, conservative non risk taking styles. In that embarrassment weighs heavier in their minds than being successful.

Not wanting to take these risks on rough cuts types, for FEAR of embarrassment, and going against the clean club, 'mantra'.

Re De Goey, I have no idea how or if we could afford him, but from what I've seen we need a player on wing half-forward like him.  With his quick agile moving, and clean thinking/reacting.

He is dynamic.

Hannan I think, Vince stays and Tyson is already out of our best 22.

JDeGoo is a very good player. I'd love him but We can't afford him. Everyone's talking up the fact that we want Gaff, I want Gaff but there's no way we can get him without giving up quality. Who we getting rid of and don't say Tyson. He'd be the steak knives that Dom Barry was for Hoges.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
