We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Oscar will rotate through both, as will Lever.  McKay is a big dinosaur whose gotten a few easy goals in the past few weeks so he doesn't worry me too much.  Curnow likes to get on his bike a bit and get possies up the ground so you might see someone like Hibberd go with him a bit when he does that.

Our backline, however, has been getting better and better over the last few weeks and I don't see that changing this weekend.

Agree completely Wise.  This summary: Key defensive pillars continue to build by Troy Chaplin says exactly what you are saying, but in a few more words.

Spargo stays this week if you believe Goody's presser DV.

If you are referring to the period the week after from the Adelaide match i think that is really dependent on the form of both players.

Sticking with your maturity/experience line then it would be either a retention of Pedders from this week or Pedders for Bull if he gets the nod ahead of Pedders this week.  Having said that i think the FD will more likely select on form at both AFL/VFL level (match ups / injury aside) based on the messages / hints coming out of base camp / Goody.

I started to wonder about that after i typed the post, thinking we could go with 2 smalls.

Our structures now are so flexible with our key personnel, we can almost have any model structure. We are playing Garletts old team, (he may find form against the blues) Carlton, with the Crows following.  So we will be building a structure to be most robust against the Crows,  and following matches.

The certainty is Viney back, but also maybe on limited game time.

This possible brings Bull into the equation.  He has recently played midfield and has the size and strength to upset most midfielders.

With Bull in the side, rotating thru midfield? and forward,,, he adds another match-up headache for oppositions.

cl: Jones, Salem, Hannan

hf: Spargo , Hogan, Petracca

ff: Fritsch, Bull Smith, TMc...

OK i'm having keyboard problems.       ps. Its back, keyboard.

R:  Gawn, Oli, Viney...

Int: Harmes, Vince, ANB, Garlett

im a bit hazy in the head atmo, so i'll come back to this later, to check it.

boy .. I love the optimism and expect to beat Carlton by at least 40 points but... in the 3 big tests so far this season we lost and in two lost badly.

Get back to me after the AAA game (Adelaide Annihilation in Alice) .

Carlton is a big test akin to Cats tigers hawks?

If TMc or Hogan play high upfield, as far as our back 50Mtr arc, they could assist Re Curnow, cutting off his space. I think Lever goes with Curnow.

Our 'Press', and spread, will be a key in this game.

...or Petracca, or Pedersen, or Hibberd, or even Jesse. Geez, I'd like a Rod Grinter in our team - the lay opponents on their backs gazing up at the clouds in aftershock, to kick 50m passes with dead accuracy, to unsettle anyone in front of him - or behind, or at his side. Grinter gave for the MFC better than anyone - body, mind and soul.

Yes, we need a Rodney Grinter in our lineup.  He was a real bombers type of player, was Grinter.  A Sheedy type. Maybe a Goody type as well ?

If i was Hogan i would be wanting to put my stamp on this game, in particular, and every game after for the rest of the year and step up to the Carey level. No reason why he shouldn't contest for The Brownlow this year.

No matter what opponents throw, kick, knee, fall on top, throat punch, elbow, sling, hold, spit, slap and/or threaten with Jesse, he always walks away with a smile and refuses to be stirred up by such antics. His tendency to retaliate has disappeared this year, as well. All good signs to complement his incredible talents onfield and the returns he makes for the MFC. Such a COOL character, now. To my mind, he is ideal Brownlow material if he can lift his team and scoreboard returns for the remainder of this year.

It is good to see that OMac is making such improvements to his game. I no longer shudder when he is in the play. In fact, I now have confidence that he is thinking better and as a result, executing better than ever before. We all hope this continues for him.

+1 and the above

Heaps of rest-peck for him this year. He's turning into Mr Total Football Mk 2

Need defensive tag on Simpson and could Bull tag Cripps? Similar size, Bull a tackling machine, also keeps Oliver free

Jake Melksham fits this perfectly... if we decide to have a defensive tag on him.

And I'd like whatever the Carlton supporters are smoking who are suggesting that Silvagni could take Oliver out of the game.  That pretty boy won't know what's hit him.

Carlton supporters on big footy are a funny bunch, some suggesting silvagni to come in and play on Oliver in the middle, but the kicker is they think he could actually beat him

The thing is they seem pretty confident that they’ll beat us across every line of the park. They seem to believe bringing in Murphy will automatically level their midfield with ours.

Win against the bombers has given them confidence, imo we would have to have a really off day for them to get near us, if we play like we did against the suns I expect a similar result

That’s my primary concern, the mental side of things. They’ll be brimming with confidence, and we’re still considered to be mentally fragile enough that every lower team targets their fixture with us as a bankable 4 points. I’m hoping we’ve overcome that particular handicap (which I think we have this year with our trend of beating teams that were ranked below us). Sunday will be more evidence either way.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
