Rumour has it WCE have offered 6 x $850,000, naturally I'm unsure if true.

NM have apparently offered 7 x $1.2m

I'm surprised North have offered him a lifetime deal at $2m, such is their pathetic desperation to land a decent footballer.

We aren't building the cake so to speak, we are in icing territory and we need skills and outside talent to take the next step and win a flag.

Totally this. Gaff is very tasty icing, even moreso given he can now also play on the inside.

This year's draft we can go purely best available as there is not much in the need category. Maybe trade for a ruck or find a mature age one.

@Chook in Perth normally has pretty good contacts and mail.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Gaff won't be off to MFC.

I am hearing some hot sauce that he is off to...

Wait for it

Canberra to be on ScoMo's ticket.

You've been around long enough to know that we at Demonland are robots who automatically react to every attempt at humour by merging it with another thread involving the person in question being ridiculed so that it gets buried never to be seen again.

Bombers fans are convinced Gaff will nominate them. Im not so sure.

Polec has been offered a fortune at North, and Port are preparing for him to take it.

Reckon Shiel is a big chance to get to Essendon if they dont get Gaff.

Glad we have finals to focus on this year.

Nah nah, Shiel to Hawks, take it too the bank. It all makes sense.

Based on Sundays game Im not sure how useful McGovern is as a forward. lacks some skill and class for mine.

We have invested years into these Key Position Players. I would be peeved if one of them was traded for a midfielder

not cool

Brain fade by me. Sincere apologies. (Really).

There is no better news breaker after the event than Ethan. He is a Giant among his peers.

Update: So immediately prior to the Gaff-bash (copyright pending) I posted a cross-reference to a wild rumour on another shall remain nameless website re.Gaff crossing to the MFC - primarily to dig out our own inside connections and stir up some action, but which was immediately called out by Ethan the Newsbreaker among others as baseless.

The original poster has now openly revealed himself as an outright troll - quoth: "I posted a scandal not a rumour. There is no differentiation. It was a complete fabrication loosely linking a few wild comments by others. A simple moment taken to type up a possibility to see how it travels. 13 pages or sometimes emotional ranting is enough for me."

I would ordinarily call for a lynching if such passed muster on this beloved site of ours, but I don't want to propagate any notion that Lynch may be coming to Melbourne. Otherwise, I remain convinced that Gaff will be in the red & blue as of next year, despite the trolls and own special Picket.

Based on the rumoured $$ on offer for him I’m not surprised

Me either.

I would have liked him at the club, but if someone like North are offering godfather type money, then we need to step away and either look elsewhere or continue to back in others to improve.

Based on what, Tom?

Usually, if you make a call about something you attempt to back it up with something of a plausible nature - particularly when you’re a journalist.

This bloke would get a job at Woman’s Day.

Yep agreed, he’s an icing on the cake type player for us. I’m sure we will have a look at other options that play a similar role

Happy to spend the mill or so a year on what we have. Let the draft boys pluck a few more diamonds. Fridge and spargo have been priceless. Not sure which one we got for watts but it has worked out. Best thing, I am sure they will keep getting better!

The offseason just got more exciting....  cant wait to see what Mahoney and co. have up their sleeve if Gaff really is going elsewhere.

The club would have been looking/talking to Gaff for the past year.  But now, I would say the development of Harmes and Brayshaw thave reduced our need for Gaff, especially if we had to break the bank to get him.

Use the money to keep the talent we have which still has so much upside.

My thoughts exactly. Sure they will package up someone for someone or a pick.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
