I wouldn't have thought so. They seem to get on and you can tell there is comaraderie.

Except it's actually not all that much in light of the new agreement that was sorted late last year.  It's a big contract but not inappropriate.

Lever is adjusting to a game plan structure that is slightly different to what he had at Adelaide, it takes some time. 

I'm filthy over what happened on the weekend, and love a good conspiracy theory, but I think we sucked on the day, we were outplayed by a team that wanted it more and we'll have to move on quickly from this experience.

Two weeks ago everyone was going hard at the dogs and pies, last week it was the bombers, this week it'll be Adelaide and the Dees will be in the gun. These clubs each to varying degrees have turned it around, we just have to prove we can do that this week with Richmond.

We lost the game on the outside.

Its been our biggest weakness for a fair few years now. If anyone wants to bag Goodwin, that's what it's about.

Hawks outclassed us on the outside.

God, what a trash article from the Age.

Don't get me wrong, it was an appalling, frustrating game but if you can survive 186 points and call yourself a Melbourne supporter you can survive Sunday.

It's time to be discerning in giving credence to certain viewpoints in the next little bit.

With the need to get eyes on digital print, the usual suspects have come out with outlandish statements that we have gone backwards this year.

While this may be the case after round 23, to say that now is infinitely stupid.

Every team usually has a 'mare game every now and again. Richmond got towelled up by St. Kilda from memory. I wonder how many numpties were prepared to write them off then.

While I feel sorry for all those supporters (which include myself) who have not seen a flag in their lifetime, they should also look at some of the root causes of our problems.

It seems that as a club we often seem to expect success as it's birthright. That because of who we are and all the hard work we feel we have done that we will just win because of who we are. And when we don't get what we feel we are entitled to then we dispose of so called malingerers and replace them with a new 'savior'(s) who will suffer a similar fate should they not meet the mark.

Facts are that the world owes us nothing. We are one of 18 teams. If we were to sack Goodwin this year, that would convince me that this club is soft as butter. There would be nothing ruthless or professional about it. It would be self indulgent and the easy way out as it would let the players off the hook. 

Next year is another matter. Goody shouldn't have his contact renewed of he can't get a finals berth in  3 years. However, we do something stupid this year, then I'm outta here.

9 months ago I was discussing a trip OS in May /June with No. 1 wife and she said " you don't want to watch the Dees now they are coming good. I just smiled at her and we continued the planning. 

Wise decision with the advantage of time.

next weekend I am planning to watch the seconds play the Tigers at punt road and that will be my last game till after QB. 

Have to say I am fairly calm it is not as though we have not been here before, we are experienced as supporters at this caper.

The positive for me is that our form both as a team and many individuals within the team has been pretty crap for most of the home and away, yet we are still 2 and 2.  If we manage to scrape a win out of Richmond/Essendon, then we have a pretty good run of lesser teams ahead after that, then 'should' get back Viney and T Mac, so could turn the half way mark of the season in reasonable shape.  I'd rather be comming home strong than starting the season all guns blazing and dying in the ass.

With respects to the Hawks game, No goals 7 behinds, 15 goals 2 if you add to that the complete numpty miss by Gawn from 15m out, then it's 1 goal 8 after half time.  Shocking conversion by us, unbelievable conversion by them.  In more normal circumstances, we kick a fee more and they miss a few and we are still well in the game and putting on scoreboard pressure at 3/4 time and who knows from there...at the very least a far more respectable scoreboard.  Whilst that analysis masks the fact that part of the reason for the poor conversion rate was the quality of the enteries and that we hardly looked like scoring at times after quarter time, with Hawthorn controlling thr game, really think this result is being blown out of all proportions.

It was after what I regard as one of our worst losses last season (to North I think), that we turned it around and convincingly beat Adelaide in Adelaide last season.  Didn't really rate Adelaide last season or this, nor Richmond.  We have far from the crap team we did in years gone by and I think sooner or later, we will flick the switch and start beating good sides consistently and pumping poor ones. 

As for Goodwin, yes I agree that he has been pretty poor tactically at times, but you can't nessasrily place that solely on him - he has a whole box full of assistants to pickup what's going on in that regards tactically on match day and over the weeks, so I don't think that can all be put on him.  What I think I like about Goodwin is his drive, high training standards/expectations and mental toughness/calmness that he brings to the role as leader/coach, which I think will pay dividends in time when it counts.  It's a long season of perseverance and ours will be defined by what happens over the rest of it, not this one game.

I agree Balls that we are off form some whet, but still winning games, or in place to win, if things go our way.

 

However against the hawks we collapsed under close pressure of the ball holder &/or around the ball.  We have to learn to cope with this sort of pressure.  The whole club,,, as it also effected our women as well.

'We' seem to struggle club wide, with in close checking, after we've won the ball;,,,  we cough it up under pressure, or get caught.

This is  key area I want to see us get stronger in.

 

I think if we can workout or structure around centreline, going forward with the ball and this area around the contest under pressure, we will go a long way.

Not so bothered with our forwards at the moment, because I think its the midfield that we need to become slicker/stronger in our ball management & use.

Why is it we seem to struggle more than most clubs do in this specific area, under pressure. 

 

IMO, this has caused us premierships, in past eras.
