Personally I love that he said that. The last thing we need it too much hype. We're still going to be underdogs in big games this year and Im happy with that. if the dees are going to be anything this year its going to come with the intensity of application accross the board. Something that I genuinely think Goodie will bring out in them. And hopefully we'll be able to shove it up Blighty at the end of the year. A way better player and coach than he is a footy commentator I have to say.

The problem with this is that it not only proves Blight wrong, but it also sets a very high ceiling for Melbourne seeing as we are more experienced than most of those teams, and having more upside and promise going into 2018 than those teams did in their premiership winning year (aside from maybe Hawthorn who looked destined for greatness).

Blight may be wrong but the effort to prove as much has only opened Pandora's Box: there's no excuse this year.

Would have been safer to make mention of our mental fragility, or how vulnerable we are to injury (heavy burden on Max etc)

Not wanting to appear obtuse but if Melbourne missed out on the finals by a bees dick last year with 8 players who had played 100 games, why didn't Hawthorn with 17 such players, play in the finals?

I don't know where we will finish but I think player experience is important - not just # of games played but Finals experience!

I can think of only one club that has got to the Prelim (Port) or the GF this century without some finals games behind it.  Yes, even the surprise packets of Hawthorn (2008), Bulldogs (2016) and Tigers (2017) had had some finals experience (with mixed results).  The finals wins and the losses were invaluable for their coach and their leaders to build on.   

I think we will make finals but not sure how far we can go this year because the lack of finals in our players, coaches and the club will shorten the odds considerably.  Hopefully, Macca, Lever and Lewis' experience will go a long way to help once we get there.

 

Note:  With natural growth in developing players, the proverbial 'drover's dog' should get us into the finals - if the players want it badly enough.

Mal Blight was a thinker. He has always remained in my best 6 players, from memory, and that was headed by Robbie Flower. Blight did some terrific things but often overthought these requirements. My God it all becomes so laughable at this end of the season. Teams are burning down  houses, training out of their skins and Media folk are exercising wrists over-time !!

I honestly don't listen to any of the shows or read much of the absolute bullshlt offered  up as "insight"

These illustrious  minds that are paid to produce clickbait and headlines  are doing just that and no more. Why anyone pays the smallest skerrick  of weight on any of it beggars belief. The JLT series is a full flight training run..that's its and that's all.  Coaches get to see in real time against real opponents ( not your sisters )  how game plans and players are working out.

THEN.....

The real footy starts. Then we get to see who's come to the party ...and in what manner.  In this vein come the final siren at the MCG on Mar 25 we will have some idea of what we're about and where we might be going  (or not ).

As others have already shown much of this ratbag lot of wannabe scions of secret knowledge are in fact just guessing. They're applying whatever they deem fit as a template and cast their runes accordingly. They will hunt with hounds and run with hares.

There are only about 25 odd to whom I nod any sense of idea about who we are and how we're going and they oddly enough are the ones wearing those red and blue jumpers on game day. The only Stat that really impacts ANYTHING  is the scoreboard.  In this light I will continue my time honed practice  of paying attention to ONLY these two parameters...an no more.

Nothing said or offered other than by the team on game day matters a zac.
