Neither crowd is pleasing considering entry to the AFLW match was free.

I feel that it is all a waste of time, AFLW. Never read the articles, just cannot watch a game - even televised. Quambatook Under 12s generally play a better game and exhibit better skills. Nar Nar Goon Under 13s are equally impressive as a training ground for future AFL stars. I know it is a little sexist to think this way but women cannot play footy. There are exceptions but a game is a game with nearly 40 players on the ground and I wouldn't attend to watch just one of them who might know what is required in this game. Send them on to the netball where they are more popular, or the hockey, or the basketball.

I think what you and others fail to appreciate is that Watts was let go for cultural reasons more than his footballing prowess.

I appreciate it. I just think good clubs back in a strong culture to turn players around, particularly if they have a talent that our list needs.

I also know a lot about Jack, he is a professional, a lovely guy and a great clubman and I think that statements about  his negative impact on culture are greatly exaggerated. Plenty of our players like a good time and as far as I hear, that is all Jack is guilty of.

Rocking up to his 9th season (2017) he was still half dedicated to the cause.

He'd run out of time.  The right decision was made.

Best you let it go.

I hate this line of reasoning.

We have a list full of blokes who are professionals, great guys and great clubmen.  Why does Jack get held on some sort of pedestal while others aren't?

As PD mentioned above, he still couldn't turn up to pre-season training in good nick or with the right dedication to the cause in his 9th season.  How many more chances did he need?  He had run out and the right decision was made for all involved.

to break from the monotony of discussing former demons, i'm interested to see how cats tune up against the peptides today - the peppies looked atrocious against the reigning premiers last hit-out, and the cats weren't exactly massively impressive either

i think it'll give us a good gauge as to how they're going to cover defensive frailties - missing henderson for the first part of the season is really going to compound the absence of lonergan and mackie, leaving taylor as their primary tall, when he plays better as the intercept reader of the play as a rule

can tomahawk and crameri gel?

will tim kelly continue to show that he's ready to alongside duncan provide a real threat as their second string mids behind the trio of jesus dangerwood?

Thinking the same thing DA.

I see the game is at Colac ... the late Cliffy Young territory... home of gumboots and spuds

Pannell on track to set the record for giving out the most amount of frees in a quarter.

I was just thinking that I hate both these sides and hope they fill the last two spots on the ladder so are in that sense I’m neutral but the umpiring in this match is deplorable

22 free kicks in the first quarter alone. Wow wee.

Dangerflog went down into the rooms with what looked like a rolled ankle. Commentators talking it up but he seemed to be moving walking without any issues.

I hate to wish injury upon any player...

But I really hope Dangerfield has an injury.

Yep, it will provide Vince with another target on his body. Vince already controls his mind.

Jeelong v The Syringes

Hate v Hate

Nup. The sun is out

any injuries feel free to elaborate

They’ve just showed the dangerdiver vision again and in rooms. Looks like a quad or adductor tweak.

More time to spend on his fishing show

What a shame....

I thought it looked like an achilles tweak. Seemed to roll forward with his foot planted and then quickly tried to correct.

Walking around in the rooms, we shall see what happens.

Hush your mouth. How could you possibly wish injury on any footballer. It’s not sportsmanship!

40 free kicks to half time - wtf

8 to Duckwood

Even if danger gets up round 1 he won’t be 100% and has played no full games, bodes well for us

I wouldn’t be relying on opposition injuries to help us win games. It doesn’t work that way. A few years ago now, we played Hawthorn in Round 1 and they had several of their top players missing. It didn’t help us at all.

Besides, Danger off no previous game time had 12 disposals in the first quarter. If he manages to get up to play against us,  he’s still the danger man.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
