I am so happy that this lad has got over his injuries which spoiled his 2020 year and has not only fulfilled his potential but in my opinion has exceeded it.

I think he has got more confidence in his ablity and now knows he belongs at this level.

If there is an award for most improved reckon Harry gets it. Improves with every game. He really now is a huge presence. Strong in the air, composed with the ball. Looks like a 100 gamer!

I can't believe this guy is still only 22 years old. He has absolutely dominated since midway through last year and has probably been our best key defender this year which is no mean feat co sidering the quality down back.

It only occurred to me when viewing the contract thread that he is tied up til 2025 and will only be 25 at end of contract! Massive upside for this young star has the potential to go forward at some stage and could be captain material down the road.

Loving his game this year.

Yeah every time I see his age I’m stunned, he looks 25+ already so I think of him as older.

He's every bit as good as Max King is forward.

Petty is now our best defender IMO. Lever is our best interceptor, but Petty can intercept almost as well and has become as good as May is 1v1.

The other thing about Harry is he's really calm with ball in hand. There was a great moment down in front of us a few weeks ago at Geelong where he basically feigned 3 or 4 times before calmly kicking out of defence. May and Lever have both been guilty of banging it on the boot indiscriminately this season, but not Petty. A very neat kick and outside of Max, our best contested mark IMV.

Sign him up til 2032!

A Jason Taylor special. I wonder if JT can find us another 1 or 2 forward equivalents in the second round?

I don’t think we can cover him down back so can’t do it this year but if we got griffen logue out of the Luke Jackson trade it could mean we could send petty forward and really improve us as a side.

This is where I think Disco Turner could be massive for us. If he can hold down a defensive role alongside May and Lever, it gives us that flexibility to use Petty as a high impact swingman.

I think you answered your own question mate.

I'd rather keep him back too, but we need forwards, so as a stop gap selection in game or if we suffer injuries like this year, I reckon he'd be very good forward.

Edit. I used to be against moving Petty at all, but I've become an advocate for it as we haven't been able to address our KPF issue and Weideman hasn't come on, and TMac's injury has made it painfully clear we need more KPFs.

Very very good footballer - under rated by many IMO

If and it’s a big IF we could find a suitable replacement down back Harrison could fill TMacs shoes as he has big engine as well. I was surprised by how much Territory young Petty covers.

Best set of hands in the side at the moment. Petty's enjoyed a good year so far but is still quite underrated amongst many in the AFL media.

I have a feeling that will change in 2023 if not in the next month.

Yep hasn't got much recognition this year but should be in AA discussion I think.

I’ve thought the same thing AF. I know the club is very bullish on Disco. The likelihood that we bring in a game hardened contested forward in the offseason is only 50/50, so we’d have to have a plan that includes what is already on the list. Brown is always going to be a week by week proposition now and him, TMac, and Mitch Brown are all coming to the end. I’d imagine that Harry’s future is a topic of a lot of conversation at the club.

Definitely Petty has had a great year. His form seems to be getting better and he’s become a key part of our team. His defence is A grade. His marking also is strong.    Have to remember he’s only 22 still.

Star in the making. Will have future AA jumpers and could easily play forward as well. JT has worked some magic with the steak knives pick from the Jake Lever trade.

He really is turning into something special isn’t he. Thought he was just about our best last night.

I think we have to play him forward, fully understanding that our defence will be weakened. Smith, Turner and Tomlinson need to step up and fill his void.

Petty, JVR and TMac forward of the ball (with Fritsch and Koz) is a massive step up from what we had last night, and is significantly harder to defend.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
