THE EXPERIENCED HEAD

Jordan Lewis brought with him a vast treasure of football brains, leadership and experience at a successful club that proved invaluable for a young rising team.

That said and because that team relied so much on its older heads, his indiscretion in the round two game against Carlton that led to a three week suspension, let the team down badly and in retrospect, played its part in the team's ultimate downfall. Let's hope he can repeat the good elements of his contribution to the club in 2018 and leave the other stuff behind him.

No suspensions in 2018 would be a great start. He showed in a lot of games why the Hawks traded him IMO the end is nigh. 2018 could be his last. Will he remain best 22. I suspect at the start of next season but I am not sure he will be still there at finals time. Either way he will have been worth recruiting for two years.

We missed a golden chance. His cool head (or even a loose punch) would have been worth 5 goals in a final. Lets hope he can pass in on to the kids next year before he leaves the game.

If he didn't break Cripps' jaw, we may well have beaten Geelong and / or Fremantle and / or Richmond and finished top 8.

Where do you stop and start with Sliding Doors ?  Which door..how far ??  All nonsense really.

His last five weeks were superb

He was unlucky with the suspension; you've seen harder hits cop zip in 2017; he got stung by the MRP chook lotto

His legs aren't as strong as they used to be - he goes to ground far too easily these days in the contest - but he is so calm and clearly a leader

Still asking myself how we lost that one ... not to mention the Carlton game in 2016

When is this club going to get it all together

On Lewis ... we got value ... would have been nice to get some more but very happy with that pick up.

Would love to see someone pushing for his spot next year.

PS... and how did we lose to the 16/17th ranked club.. North... TWICE

Did what we wanted, showed his skill, poise and decision making with the ball on field, hopefully it rubs off on some of our other players...Tyson etc. ????

Good year all round, forget the Carlton thing that happens when you get competitive guys in a contact sport. Another two years from memory on his contract and looks like he has lost nothing.

Think he has one more good year in him and it will be played 85% across half back.

We have enough young midfielders that he shouldn't be needed in there for long periods.

Could still get a fifth flag if everything comes together!

12 months on, I'm still smiling that he came to us. We get another season from him and the "gamble" on a 3 yr deal was totally worth it.

Pretty much postponed the diabolical "oh we're still the same team and have no hope if we cant beat Carlton" until later in the season.

The losses to Geel, Freo and Rich were tolerable because all 3 teams looked like they were finals bound early in the season.

As posted above, Lewis sensed something in the Carlton game ie that it was too early in the season to have our 'sky is the limit' hope crushed by a perenial cellar dweller and he needed to make a stand. Reckless or not, the Hawks did to to North years earlier and took a hold of the result and knocked a contender down a peg. Whereas we needed to tick a box for necessary wins that we need to chalk in if we were to have any hope later in the season.

Didn't mind his season to be brutally honest.

He got better as the season went on, while many others got worse.

His second half of the season was as good as anyones.

Not sure yet if he plays his 3 years out but there is no argument from me about his value. A required player for 2018.

Fail - got suspended for the early part of the season, when we dropped games we should have won

Pass - was one of the few who stood up in the run in home when we had it all to play for

I still think it is either Vince OR Lewis in 2018, not both, and I would prefer Lewis based on 2017 form, but still not completely sold on him.
