This is what makes my blood boil. If this is the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the comp, the competition is [censored]. Even St Kilda have played more scintillating footy at times this year.

If we'd shown up, this could easily have been our year of making it all the way. The comp will only be more even and more difficult next year.

Exactly. Look how the saints thrashed them only a matter of weeks ago. Geelong finished 2nd. This is not a team that finished 2nd that is out there tonight.

Is Martin really that hard to tackle?

As for Dangerfield, seriously what happened to him at the beginning of that final quarter? He just butchered the ball and made dumb decisions.

Mark Richmond down in the GF already. I mean they will face either Port, WC or GWS in a home prelim. Easy ride through.

Now we have to put up with richmond feral for 2 weeks while they carry on. although I must admit it would be exciting as a tigs fan sitting there enjoying the final moments knowing you have it in the bag and are in a prelim.

Hardwick has reinvented himself as a coach ... maybe it's the Balme influence but credit where it's due.  They've played great.

Maybe someone should ave told Hawkins he is playing against Melbourne, then he may have snagged 7 as he only seems to do against us.

I mean this team finished 2nd on the ladder and only managed to kick 4 goals. Thats pathetic. Going to be a long train ride home to geelong.

I wanted both teams to lose tonight because I can't stand either of them. I think I can't stand Geelong just that little bit more though. Thoroughly unlikeable coach, thoroughly unlikeable players (led by captain Duckwood and his brother Duckwood Jnr) and thoroughly appalling conduct in recent years (remember Mitch Clark and the way Geelong [censored] us over?).

So I guess I'm slightly less unhappy that Richmond won, if that makes sense. Just makes me angry thinking about Melbourne again. This could have been our year, based on GWS' form.

Just saw the start of the disintegration of the Cats?   Hawkins getting very angry at a few of his team mates.

Dissent in the ranks?

Just sorry that the TV hasn't shown Scott !

By the way - do Cats play SS/Ess or WCE/PP?

The grand final is in two weeks, Crows v Swans prelim....

The other side of the draw is

Tigers

Port

Eagles

Giants

What a mess, what a wasted year for so many.

I feel sick and so should every Melbourne supporter. THAT was our competition to play a Grand Final this year. Let that sink in.

Joel Selwood running at the ball with an arm out and not through the contest....wasn't right to play tonight.

Dangerfield trying to lift the team and playing selfish footy...come unstuck.

Their most steady player all night for mine has been Lonegan and it's his 2nd last game.

That's just depressing.

Early - mid season we probably would have won, or lost in a close one.

In post WCE game we would have lost by 10 goals.

Maybe it's best we are spectators.

Tigers have had an absolute dream run with injuries this year, not to mention Martin,  Cotchin, Rance in career best form. If they had the run with Injuries that we did this year would they be where thy are now?

At the same time Goodwin was out coached in most games needs to sharpen up dramatically if we are to go deeper id even go as far as saying we need a new fitness guru Misson has had long enough.

I want a ruthless review of every department makes me sick this Richmond stuff.

Richmond will play in the Grand Final. They only need to beat Port (pretenders, garbage team who have only beaten Sydney and West Coast in the top 8), West Coast (garbage team, unworthy of finals, flat track bullies) or GWS (haven't won at the MCG this year).

We threw a near-monty Grand Final appearance in the bin, folks. Let that sink in.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
