Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

They will get over it. Just like people did when Woewodin was traded, same with Travis Johnstone.

Both of those 'trades' sucked. History confirms this - neither trade ultimately produced the positive impact/return the MFC wanted.

Sure, people get over things, including sickness and death - but history doesn't simply erase responsibility for, and the consequences of, bad desisions.

I have been really impressed with Goodwin to date, but, if true, this has the potential to be an atomic mistake, particularly if it is not handled very sensitively with the player group and supporters, and especially if the club does not receive a commensurate player in return.

I reckon I'm as passionate and as loyal a supporter as anyone, but this has the potential to inflict major brand damage for me early into the Goodwin years.

In short, Goodwin will be setting the bar at an extreme level on this one - he cannot expect any tolerance on his own performance next year if he's not prepared to extend it to key personnel himself.

In fact, I just don't bloody need this right now. I'm still coming to terms with our loss to Collingwood in round 23.

Need scotch right now ...

Several players ?  Who ?

Nathan Jones' comments were along those lines, what other player/s ???

Gawn, Viney and Lewis.

Even 1 player mentioning means it's an issue.  Players will not usually speak out about it.

Watts is a 9th year talented yet flakey flanker who we chose not to play this year  on two seperate occasions due to lack of buy in on required effort and ethic on and off the field. How some can show such hysteria at our want to move him on have obviously forgotten what it felt like missing out in the last round. Any player who is not 100% buying in to do everything necessary on and off the field can get out in my opinion and Watts is the poster boy for it. I am sure what we get (likely a second round pick) people will say is unders but it is right based on his career output and likely output moving forward. The best we can hope for is many clubs decide he is the answer to drive up his value. I will hold to see the overall picture of ins and outs before I hold a view on whether we have improved our list and chance to take the next step and more importantly the ones after it to make it to the last game in September.

A second round pick would be a gigantic FAIL. Second round pick No,No!

Is there articles or Podcasts available to hear these comments?

I have no problem if a player is asked to leave, what worries me is that Jack Watts is the best kick in the side, regardless of his tackling.

Who is going to kick those late important goals if Jack leaves...?

I will speculate;

It sounds like Jack is a distraction and bad influence on the rest of the team or players through lack of commitment, preperation, buy in etc etc.

Maybe the leadership group has had enough along with the coach(s). Its obvious there is frustration there.

If this is the case, I can concur. The MFC is serious about contending for a premiership and this behaviour wont be tolerated.

If Jack is traded. It raises the bar of what is expected by the MFC and I am sure those who are distracted will refocus.

I'm a JW fan but the fact he has kicked 2 clutch goals in his 7 years doesn't seem a reason to keep him

I don't think Roos anointed Goodwin as his successor because he thought he'd be his clone.  Pretty sure he was after someone that had a clear vision and an idea how to achieve it.

I didn't hear any criticism from Roos in that interview of either Goodwin or the club if they trade Jack.  All his comments were prefaced with if it was him he wouldn't do it, but he's not in a position to know.  He clearly loves Jack, but he also commented on outsiders second guessing clubs when they didn't have all the facts.

True, but I reckon he'd be disappointed if Goodwin starts to erode the culture in roads he'd made at the club. Watts would get hounded by the way he prepared on game day because he'd come in relaxed and not serious enough. Neeld hated him for that and would isolate him from the rest of the group. Roos taught the FD that these deferent personalities can still excel with the right coaching and guidance. He accepted Wattsy's differences and realised not everyone is a Jack Viney. He knew how to motivate him and got the best out of him.

Oh. My. God.

So much hysteria over one of the most inconsistent, frustrating bruise free players on our list.

Way too much emotion, not enough clear headed, long term, big picture thinking. It's a cliche but I honestly think this trade, should it eventuate, will benefit both player and club. Jack will be a better player at another club, free from the cloud that has hung over him since day one. Go forth my boy and be a free man.

For the club, this will be a statement of intent and help shape a new dynamic amongst the players we want to give it their all.

For me Watts often sets the tone of the group. He swans into preseason out of shape, he steps onto the ground half cocked and will consciously choose not to put his head over the ball. This attitude, and we've all seen it affects the group. If our co-captain ain't happy then neither am I. Those who want to clasp to the same hope that we've had for this bloke to finally show us some ticker for another year beyond the nine his already had, good luck to you. But for me it's time to show some mongrel.

we are looking to trade a player who has achieved 1 top 5 B&F finish in 9 years,  hardly surprising, i have no idea why some are so shocked

I reckon Max Gawn also equals that stat.

I'm also hearing rumors that it's Nathan Jones who wants Watts out. I wonder how crazy this can get?

Jones certainly didn't hold back when Jack kicked the crucial goal against Collingwood. He just about bear hugged Watts to death. I heard they were mates too.

Can people stop equating 'Watts being traded' to 'The Demons no longer tolerate inconsistency'?

Again, Watts rocked up in 'The Most Important Game in a Decade' - and that isn't an argument to keep him - it is an argument to say that the undertone of 'if we get rid of Watts we will get rid of the problem' is absolute nonsense.

It is another irony that his last act is to be the scapegoat once again for this club when that ire should be reserved for others in the eyes of many supporters.

On its own, it will not magically solve our consistency issues. And i cant see too many people suggesting that it will.

But trading a highly inconsistent player who still has some trade value seems like a logical attempt to move in the right direction.

Fine if you disagree. Its a tight call. But i'm rapt we're trying something.

I dont get why people are losing their minds over this, as if we're trading a viney or dare i say it, a woewodin.

It seems like a locker room thing. Watts has probably be at the club for too long and has found a comfort zone. His performance against North was imo the nail in the coffin. I don't think I've ever been so angry after a Melbourne match and his effort was so obviously lacking that it's difficult to defend him. Kicking winning goals on QB means jack if you can't even chase in the business end of the season with finals on the line.

Let's get rid of these perennial losers, get what we can from them, and build a club filled with blokes that don't just hate to lose, but use that as drive and application to perform. I'm sure Watts hates losing but I've lost patience now. We were shown up in the last month of football and in this case I feel he can be considered part of the problem .

He's a 9 year veteran of the club who is stil getting dropped. I'm so sick of this [censored].

Our number 1 forward struggles to kick 40 metres. We sure as hell better bring in some new forwards if JW does leave

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
