Have I missed something? When was this ever about Jack's popularity?

I guess this must be the first time every a popular player has ever left a club anywhere ever.

Someone appoint an administrator

You're absolutely right its not at all about Jacks popularity. But when some DLers go into overdrive about how poor Jack's influence must be on the young guns (as if its absolute fact)  you're basically talking out your rear end and have no idea. And i mean no idea. The challenge for the club will be to get the team over the emotional hurdle. I can assure you that when you hear them in the media they are merely towing the clubs line.

I can absolutely see why DLers get frustrated with Jacks intensity. At times i do too. But I'd rather have 3 Vineys and 3 Watts's in my team than 6 Vineys.

And id take on board Roos' understanding and commentary on the matter over anybody at MFC. He has no axe to grind.

two quick boundaries and jack has bounded to the lead.....mesmerising footwork.....will he still be there at stumps on day 2.....stay tuned

I lost interest in cricket a long time ago but I'm loving your commentary.

Every now and then we need a commercial break on this thread.

I don't agree that he was a carbon copy of Sylvia in terms of the way he plays Jnr.  Maybe you mean intensity / effort.  If so I can see similarities.  Outside of that they are miles apart in most regards in how they play the game IMO.

I mean talent vs output

Take it up with the Manager of the Football Department.

All.good with what you've said.

There seems.to be a need for both sides to discredit each other.

Without proper commentry from.both parties no one has all thr facts as far as I'm concerned. There is a lot of.jumping at shadows

Also who has pulled the trigger here? I doubt it was solely Goodwin although i have no doubt he had the final say. It was a club decision sanctioned by the leadership group?

My last point is Watts hasn't been banished as i understand it. Can anyone confirm? My understanding is he got told to assess his options not banished.

Some ppl here need to step away

2013 - 17th with 2 wins and a percentage of 54.07%

2014 - 17th with 4 wins and a percentage of 67.89%

2015 - 13th with 7 wins and a percentage of 76.96%

20146 - 11th with 10 wins and a percentage of 96.60%

2017 - 9the with 12 wins and a percentage of 105.22%

We've all seen the above progression. Put simply I don't want this momentum to be harmed by anything. The Watts debate is heading into dangerous territory. If Goodwin and McCartney and Mahoney are wrong on this one so be it. The credits are in the bank for me. You can question this decision but the abuse these guys have copped is over the top. We've got to look at the big picture and back them in - not because it's the easy or lazy thing to do but because the tangible evidence supports what they're doing to this footy club. rpfc makes a fair point - in the past there has always been a chorus telling the naysayers to pipe down but comparing what happened under Schwab or Neeld with what has happened over the past three years since Goodwin has been at the club is unfair.

I think you need to be very careful. If you're a Melbourne Football Club supporter and member and truly care for this club and its future then you need to be aware of the potential damage your comments may have. If you're a friend, family member, acquaintance, team mate, member of management team etc . . .  of Jack Watts then you need to be equally careful not to betray the confidence placed in you. Your tone since you started posting has changed. Your agenda is clear. At the moment all you are doing is rubbishing the club, its coach and its footy dept boss. This club is so close to the ultimate success, with or without Jack Watts and my tolerance for anyone creating bad blood at this particular point in time is very low. You have every right to make your point but now its clear your agenda has surpassed the questioning of the club and is instead focused on discrediting it. Sue, Ron, Rusty, Beelzebub and Jumbo have been clear in their pro Watts stance but regularly posters here know that they love this footy club and should Jack leave, that love may well be tarnished but they'll still be here. Your loyalties are not as clear. I think we deserve a little transparency from you given the mountain of Jack Watts related posts you've provided since your recent arrival.

Yes. You're right. And it has been a challenge for me. I guess now that Roos has come out with some of the facts i didn't want the truth to het discredited on here as it so easily can be.

Will probably regret it tomorrow.

Just wanted at least some of the truth to be known.

Sorry if i have been destabilising at all. Love the passion on here and wouldn't want to that to be diminished. Also love the playing group and the excitement they generate. I really hope they make it.

Will talk with Danelska after its over.

Cheers.

Just some of the truth? Its just hard from my perspective to evaluate your contributions when the only contributions we've had from you are in regards to Jack Watts and very negative about anyone in our footy department - a footy department that in my view has put together a very clear vision and is working dilligently and consistently towards realizing it. Is your criticism isolated to the treatment of Jack?

For me its more about posturing that you have knowledge to affirm a point yet unwilling to corroborate sources, or your own identity. And yes that does betray confidence, but its merely putting out your own truth without validity - so on a forum such as this, its hard for folk to give it credibility. And it feels unfair that you can assert certain things and link it to privilege knowledge  - and fall back on, well believe me or not.

Reminds me of this cracker of an album...from the year of beating Adelaide in the finals, then them holding aloft the cup..sigh.

I hope Jack doesn't carve '4real' into his arm and then disappear.

The one question I can't get my head around is if Watts is as good and important to the team and club culture as people are asserting why would the club be kicking him out? Why would the club deliberately sabotage itself and weaken itself in its pursuit of success?

With regards to the "Jack didn't know" I find this incredibly hard to believe. Yeah maybe he didn't know the extent but how could he not know the possibility? He would've had constant feedback from coaches and leadership group throughout the year and I find it hard to believe he wouldn't have been made aware at his exit interview that the had clear issues that he had failed to address. So far we've only heard second /third hand reports of his interpretation of what he was told and when. Often people receive critical feedback or are told of potential changes but are either oblivious or in denial about it. We weren't in the room so we can't say what was and wasn't said. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter, even if not ideal, because the crux of the matter is the club has their reasons for moving Jack on which, as above, no has been able to articulate what they might be if they refute everything that has come out of the club over the last week or so.

it's a very good question. It comes multi barbed I warn.

Ask yourself about that question...possibly...why is Watts the be all and end all of the culture of the club ....supposedly...why is he assigned lepper status.....just .....why ??

So essentially what your saying is that the FD is wrong @beelzebub

And since The Executive - PJ and the board back the FD, then they all need to be fired and replaced so they can fire and replace the football department.

Disagree. From what I can see, not uncommon across the AFL once exit interviews are over and the players are no longer around the club. Player managers are there for a reason.

It's not like he was in Bali with Gawny. Just a bit of courtesy never goes astray.

in words of one syllable yes.

PJ is not a footy person..hes admin.  He'll abide the view of the FD as being sound until it shows  itself otherwise. Would you not ? Of course..that might be too late..possibly.

Your words and constraints as to what happens. UH :)  nice try.  I think the FD is close to good...not quite there. Why would YOU fire them ALL under that pretext ?

On Men1116 today with Ox and Nasal, they mentioned that Watts was:

- A1 with the money kick inside 50.  A1 as the best in the comp for memory.

- "Elite" with pressure acts

- "Elite with another stat that I can't remember.  Maybe goalkicking.

Hopefully someone here can elaborate/confirm.

I am glad to see the support for Watts on here and out there; and not follow what the club has decided blindly.  There was a time when some posters questioned Neeld/Lyon at the start of the reign, only to be smothered with 'so you think you know more than Neeldy' or words to that effect.

Jack Watts deserves better IMO.

Loving him as a mate and loving playing with him are 2 different things. I'm sure we've all played with blokes who we were great mates with but didn't like playing with them as they were not quite up to it.

(you know you're not great when you struggle in Div 2 SFL)

Watts, not up to it. You must be joking.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
